This feature is abusable as hell and is killing PvP, as certain people just camp the worldmap and don't ever enter if they aren't sure they can win. My suggestion for a hotfix that could be applied before Town Control is reworked would be to remove preview feature altogether OR disable scrolling and make sneaking people invisible from the worldmap. Nerfed preview would still allow loners to check whether the town is safe to some extent while denying those WM campers the ability to check whether there is enemy present inside or not, or at least force them to use scouts.
Seriously guys, waiting 40 minutes on world map is not fun. 2238's PvP as it is is basically Guard Duty: The Game because of this silly little abused feature.

Voted to remove it.

yess solo players will surely love entering in front of campers with miniguns

That sure is a good reason to mess up about half of the game. And you could always have that no-scroll preview which makes it pretty simple - no dead bodies near grid -> it's ok to enter most of the time.
-
Better to add a timer for using preview, for example 5 minutes: you use preview, you decide to enter or not

Abusable. They could just take turns using it.

i say that for the one that wants to enter dangerous city it can mean like messing whole game....
scolling ? ee afaik preview just shows you the vision you would have bu entering the map - low per low vision .. crolling doesnt show anything extra..unless there is some bug or you meant something i dont know what...

A screen is less than 10 PE most of the times. It's a start.

And don't show name in the preview.
This feature replace the "wait..." feature which was created for low level player to have a chance to survive a little more.
But yes this feature is now used by some player to attack low level(or not) or by faction to make some tactics.
It's not allways bad but sometimes it's used too much (like the removed feature "tracking/follow" to see all people around the city)
Maybe update this feature : we have to use a scope and/or get the scout profession(not implemented) to preview?
But it will handicap new/low level player ..

Vote to leave it.
I love it and if it's disabled then enemy factions will just use lvl1 spies like they did before.
-
there is a reason they implemented it in the first place, I still remember douchebags camping the grid and killing you before your screen loads.

oh yea this one fails the thread...

exactly.
And isntead of whining "they avoid fight , and only enter when ure to win" well you can hide some of your members maybe , or even make them leave the city so enemy wont see your real numbers...

O RLY? Now that was real smart, Napoleon! Thanks, I'll try to remember that! ::)

Honestly, instead of complaining how about you learn the most basic tactical concept even insects understand and stay hidden before you attack.

Oh, so I have to draw you a picture? Fine, we do stay hidden. Nobody's on the town map. There's no real way of making a good ambush as scouting using preview (unlike sending in bluesuits) is basically efortless. It's like everyone in the entire wasteland has his own spy satelite. The game goes like this: two teams are camping WM, one enters, takes the town, goes out. If the other one catches them during those 30 seconds, it's on. But it usually isn't. So to actually have a fight you have to camp the town and provoke the other guys. This shit looks more like a complex mating ritual than actual combat. And I'm not even complaining about the fact that it looks both stupid and unrealistic. It boils down to waiting. And waiting. And waiting. There's no fun in that. I actually did go for my PSP once town control started today. I advanced quite a few ranks in Tekken 6. Had to take two 15 minute breaks to see some action in FO. In about 6 hours. Get it now?
If you want to keep it as it is, just be honest and vote to rename the game. I'd suggest "Fallout: War is Boring", "Fallout: Guard Duty" or "Fallout: Did You Know That Soldiers Spend But A Tiny Fraction Of Their Time Actually Fighting?"

I feel your pain, but at the same time this is a perfect moment to throw in "THE WASTELAND IS HARSH" to justify waiting.
Poor solo players were butt-raped all the time before the preview was added and now you can taste your own medicine by seeing how not fun it is to be unable to enjoy the game because of "realism."
Quick fix:
Town control timer goes down faster for each person in the Town Hall or wherever would be the zone to guard. Down to say 10 minutes if 10 people wait there. Or maybe down to 20 minutes from 40 if nobody is standing there.

Where's the realism in "I has a spy satelite olololol?" It's the opposite of wasteland is harsh. It's a carebearish feature that introduces carebearish ways of settling things to PvP. Where's the harshness if you can more or less see everything without risking anything? Do real scouts operate like that? Do real soldiers have a timer that tells them it's all over? The entire situation looks and feels so dumb and awkward it's not even funny. And as far a solo players are concerned - why the hell would they HAVE to go to TC-enabled areas in the first place? You could get everything including all the profession levels elsewhere - and if you really want to do those basic quests which are worth about 5000 exp anyway than having a small party virtually eliminates the risk if one person volunteers to do some scouting. If you want to go there just for the kicks and giggles, don't be surprised if you get shot. On the other hand, we CAN'T bring our crap elsewhere. Well, we could, but there was a lot of butthurt last time we did that, including a GM spawning over 9000 guards at VC entrance. I can't really understand how all these solo-players muster the audacity to have any serious claims to northern territories as their natural habitat in the south is generally safe and really works while gang based PvP is totally screwed and has remained next to unplayable for quite a long time.

If anything it'd make matters worse by shortening the timeframe in which combat does happen (nobody takes the towns in the initial 40 minutes because it doesn't matter at all).

Sounds sexy

at least when towns are being taken it must be disabled, it takes all fun from pvp :/
-
If someone could summarize that thread to lazy me, I'd be grateful. Cause well, we know the issue, we have to address it, sooner or later, the sooner the better I suppose.

I'd say this summed up the thread in a nice way.
-
yeah, i agree with it being disabled when tc is going on, no independent player is dumb enough to walk into a town while it's being taken.
-
Agreed. Simply disabling it when TC is on seems simple and elegant.
As for spy satellite:
Binoculars? The view you get is quite similar to what you could see when positioned somewhere slightly higher and looking through them.

If you use binoculars, you risk getting sniped. Preview doesn't cost you anything. And disabling it for TC is a splendid idea, already mentioned in another thread too.
