Title: Ignore/Allow commands.
Post by: runboy93 on December 19, 2011, 07:13:48 pm
What I mean is that you can "silence" another player with Ignore command and allow player talking again with Allow command.
Just got this idea from Spam filter post.. if not for all players then maybe player own choice?

You can silence annoying players with a bullet through the brain, usually works.

That doesn't silence them Simon, it just makes them have strep throat for a minute.  ;D

This one should be in long time ago, eh. And it should show up in one of post-wipe updates.

Why, the forum has "ignore" function long ago and users actively use it.

You're joking right?  Why put ignore in the actual game?  It's not like, many other games, where you can be followed around constantly, and harrassed your textbox!

Just kill the guy, or walk away.  It's rather simple, and neither is hard to do.  For the people who want this function in the game, are just lazy and wussy imo.

I don't know have you seen guys who continue trolling even they got killed many times by random bursters..
This is good against those guys who trolling, no matter what others try to do and there is no GM online who can punish guy like him :(

Allow perception to make short/high sound ( text i mean ) range, when people shout you can use helmets to completelly ignore shout, or with turned on radio - ignore too ( i mean message is not appeared in text box if you have 1 of this 2 options ). Or PE - ears can affect chat in window ( not just by visibility range ).

Something like this is all i find usefull by now. But silence command sounds for me better, maybe my idea about helmets or other can be used and modified by other visitor to finnaly find solution for spammers and unpolite players.

I just think this is a good idea, at least there will be something more to put in next update.

It is lame.

Part of the game is putting up with the other players.

What would be the in-game rationale for blocking other's speech?

No, people who find amusement in being rude and don't do anything except standing in towns
and keep upsetting verbally and insulting other players should GTFO from the server. Really, they
should be gone forever. Just because it's a game about wasteland it doesn't mean that it's your
Free Internet Tube to call other players cocksuckers, dicks, whores, cunts, fags, shout some
racist stuff about Hitler and Jews etc. And don't pretend to be some kind of roleplayer if you do it.
It's never done in any roleplay context, I have never seen a single case where it could be called
like that. For such stupid excuse there should be a permaban right away. Rationale is that we are
real people, this is a computer game not wasteland, and there should be some minimum level of
culture towards other players.

There is a difference if someone in the heat of battle will say something harsh or stands in NCR
for 2 hours and keep calling names random players. Unfortunately usually there is nobody to enforce
it and no filter can solve it, so the best solution is to give players ability to mute other people.

Players aren't allowed to be rude towards each other but they are allowed to shoot each other into bloody pulp, baserape and steal without penalty?

But all the same, ingame communications have very little to do how the game is played and how the mechanics work. It wouldn't do harm if ignore command was implemented. Would be nice to know if someone has ignored one's own character however.

So what, if you play chess you can destroy other player too, doesn't mean that
you should be able to call the player "fag" whole time you play, right???
Seriously, if you don't see a difference, then I can't help you.

Like I said, if it's done in some deep in-game context and not excessive (someone
stole from you, so you and your character has a reason to be angry) it's acceptable
to some extent IMO. But if you just want to use 2238 server as your platform to call other
people names, spread your racist ideas, then there should be no place for such thing.

Yes but in fonline you have a choice not to kill other player. In chess the whole purpose is to defeat another player.
Killing, baseraping, insulting and stealing are all ways to be mean towards other player because there's a choice not to do it.

No, sorry but it doesn't have to be a way to be mean toward other player. It can be,
but it doesn't have to. If I play as thief it's just your tough luck and part of the game.
But if you call another player "fag" all the time then I don't buy that it's roleplay thing,
let's be serious. It has nothing to do with the game, it's just a way to upset people
over Internet.

Anyway, it's best if we leave the decision to the players and let them mute whoever
they want.

What about an item, that is cheap to craft, and cut all the sound (means text) when you has it in your inventory, like it was on your ears. Of course, you wouldn't know everything that happens on your back.

It would be more immersive...
