Title: Server crashes.
Post by: ThePhoenix77 on December 11, 2011, 08:44:01 pm
Is it possible that a computer that is connected to server running FOnline is able to crash the server if the processor is running at 100% and possibly not able to keep up with application? I'm only asking as at the time of the last two crashes my Intel core 2 duo processor T5800 has been running at 100% and FOnline has been running at over 250,000k working set (memory)which has been sucking my processor dry. Usually FOnline runs fine for hours on end without maxing processor.
Or is this because the server has become unstable and my processor has tried to keep up but failed as the server is unstable?
Basically could an individuals computer inadvertently cause the server to crash? If yes I had better retire.

Who knows it could be anything that is crashing the server. But all the server crashes is making me rage. I'm sick of making armors and farming for it to roll back 20 minutes early all gone! When it starts lagging I think to myself here we go again! I'm starting to think this is GM abuse because I farm a lot of gear then it rolls back, or when I win PvP fight and get some loot, roll back. Seriously what is going on with this server?

My guess is that they are making preparations for the next session, at least I hope that's why it keeps going down and lagging.

Dont be naive. Its not because of that.

As far as i know the server is full of shit like thousends of alts, bases, items etc. and this is the problem. So prepare for 3 months of crashes, rollbacks and ~10k ping.

If I'm level 1 again after this rollback I'll seriously consider being annoyed :E

they hold two different things on same server:  CBT and 2238.

That is the problem, afaik.

That is absolutely not the problem  , the machine can easily take that , the application itself has issues and these aren't my words.

Then explain what you mean by application, so there is a better understanding?

I'm guess it's mostly due to manual reboots, not actual crashes. Think about the timing: these frequent outages align exactly with beta testing. No coincidences i say; they want to implement a new change and some changes require a restart, so they just do it. If it's down for hours, that may seem excessive to us, but to a developer who has a lot to accomplish during a reboot, it's a lot easier to block connections until done.

Of course, that's just my educated guess. But the idea that it's due to your farming success just seems really wrong. ThePhoen, if you want to test your theory, plan to be offline for 1 week and announce it. If the server doesn't crash in that time, then we have an indication. I'm betting it's not related.

Well still I am getting irritated farming and then the server shuts off and rolls back. This always seems to happen when I farm.

I'm thinking he means the server client.  FOnlineServer.exe?  Just what I'm supposing from his post.

That does not make sense, because it's been working fine for all this time until now.

Well I'm off on holiday for a week :o, hope I don't miss wip :'(, if server keeps crashing as often then it's not me ;D. I might still be around on forums as I have a blackberry (yummy :P).

Or can I live without FOnline? ::)

Think this way: Is a good chance to test your power hardcore build, trying to Rambo NCR.  :D

The server crashing is ridiculous, I lost 30,000 caps in loot last night because of a rollback.

OBT that is crashing and CBT are two separate applications , that doesn't interact in any way when functioning nor makes complications to each other as i said the machine can easily take that. The recently closed beta test server appearance is only a coincidence that OBT happens to have complications , as i understand due to the amount of data it has to process , that needs to be wiped.

Second page , last post.

The server is in serious need of wipe.

Separate all stacks into individual items and spread them out on maps.

That might help.
