Title: About cars, carts and 10 minutes.
Post by: wladimiiir on December 06, 2011, 09:25:20 am
How is it with the 10 minutes and cars (carts). I know that if I park my car somewhere in the Wasteland I have 10 minute chance that someone can encounter my car. What if 10 minutes passes, I go away from car and then I go back, where my car is parked. Is 10 minute counter restarted or I can play with my dog and relax around it?

It won't restart, you can do with your dog there whatever you want, just wait 10 minutes after creating location.

That's the magic behind car tents.

Wow. No comment

How's so? What's wrong with brushing dog's fur and playing fetch with it?

The best thing to do is to hide your keys somewhere in the encounter, and-if you are near a city that a lot of players pass by- wait the 10 min.

Little story: I was heading to redding earlier (right before the TC) and found a hummer parked in an encounter. It took me 5 minutes to find the key.

Now I have a free hummer lulz.

If you tell me, where the key was. I'll give it back to you. I promise.

Lost Children lost a hummer around Redding a few days back, Key should've been in a short shrubbery a few hexes from the Hummer itself.. However, if the trunk does not have at LEAST 1-2 BA's in it, it is not my Hummer.

So, does this work for all the encounters? I mean, when I encounter some NCP battle can anyone enter my encounter after 10 minutes?

After 10 minutes you can't send a distress call anymore.  Which also means no one else can encounter you anymore.

I once encountered a group of players camping an encounter and tried to radio my guys in as soon as I got sucked into the encounter, yet it said that it was too late to distress, rendering me helpless.

So, this either means that I was a second or two too late and I had just missed the time to distress (very unlikely), or the encounter life vs. distress signal time is not synchronized.

Or the timer is set when the encounter is created, and was expired before you even got there.

That is what I am saying, if I understand you correctly. It should be the same for both. Based on what has happened to me, and what I've seen in my own camping, the duration of time to be able to distress is less than the duration to be able to encounter the encounter. Meaning that a person can be sucked into encounter with no way to call for support because it is "too late" to distress. My point is that: shouldn't that time be the same for both, to prevent that from happening?

But we're talking about car location, not encounters, I can remember some TB encounter vs SF caravan that turned into very very very long battle vs some evil polaks (Sir Hubertus and others), who were entering encounter again and again ... and again, we killed them over and over but they returned, then we had no more ammo and died :D
There was also some random PKer who entered just before combat vs other players and he said that he'll kill us all, as a result he died 1st. They were entering encounter even after 1 hour of it's start, but it was 1 wipe ago, I think now it's not changed and you can find someone in encounter at any time. But not car location and question was about cars.

Oh, the answer then is: Yes, anyone still can enter your encounter, ..if it wasn't changed after wipe, but I doubt they changed if for no reason +Dishonest Abe's post when he entered enc and couldn't send distress again proves it.

HI! Firs t of all im quite new to the game and community- i play half a month. I would like to ask, cause im intrested in thievin business, if the chance to encounter parked car is influenced by outdoorsman skill (if its lower i have bigger chance to encounter). And general question about encounters- i took some perks like scout and explorer- does it really make bigger chance to encounter? thank you for your experiences wastelanders

They made it so the OD enhancer perks have little or no effect on things that could be griefed, otherwise people would make Tracker-Alts.

Remember Tracking? It never even worked, but was a delicious vaporware preview.
