there useless and worth next to nothing most people just give them to some nooby.

what about the guy at boneyard respawn who wants you to go to some guy to get more ammo sent.

You can get there only if you died. So no shells for him. Unless...

That is a whole different quest. He won't react to shells in your inventory (tested  ;D).

They are collectable items: for someone are useless, but for a small group of people who collect all strange and rare items they have some value. I'm also whilling to buy like 2 of them if you want to sell.

Also, if you use science, you can get gun powder.
