I recently came upon a thread with some excellent advice for new players and I thought we should have a contest! Please forgive me if this has already been done. Also remember that being the "best" isn't the "best", have fun.
Let me kick it it off with my low maintence build.(https://i.imgur.com/FHeJH.png)

Damn, I should copy all these "snipers" with Fast Shot, that newcomers were showing me with proud. Too late now I suppose.

AntiShaEnin (it can be used as AntiBuster, but AntiBuster character requires other name, something like.. AntiBuster) build since you can't block/kill him, so atleast you can talk to him preventing others trading with him:

It allows you to talk and trade with him much time without pressing "back" and "1" regulary, also 244 hp and x2 toughness giving protection against mad bluesuiters with cheap smgs who are angry on you because can't trade with Sha Enin and high OD and x2 pathfinders will allow to you to return back faster incase if they bring something better than smg.

Possible to learn profession armorer or sg gunsmith (both level 3). With nuka it has two bursts from an assault rifle. Good carry weight, good health, good outdoorsman and good repair skill ensures that from now every newbie will be able to survive in the wasteland ;)

RavenousRat made my day again. You should make chronicles about your endless fight with ShaEnin ;)

One of the legendary build
Ag 1 (5 ap usually)
take the traits that give you a +2 st for a -2 ap
Use jet to have enough ap for fa
then when you get addiction try to drink a nuka, try ...
I was a witness of someone that actually was using this lolled a lot

Yes something like that is possibly the best build to recommend.
With this it should be possible to experience the most of game, and decide what to do later, if you stay in game.
Though it does not really help with leveling, but to be honest that would be something like high FA and unarmed or something in that fashion.

Uh. I severely gimped my character, then. I created a build that would qualify as respectable in Fallout 1 / 2. :| But, apparently, such builds are completely useless here.

Actually my first char was an exact copy of a character I often used in Fallout, he was quite a winner there due to the fact he had no competition there.
Here is the build I used/use
Special: 6 7 6 4 6 6 5 traits: kamikaze finesse
This character is quite fun to play I remember being victorious in some PvP cases and being able to run away almost always.

Most of the builds here are just troll builds.

P.S. you catch on quick, how many did you read through before it dawned on you?

I was merely making sure that the person that i quoted didnt waste hours of their time by persisting with one, reading comprehension for the win.
