A quite simple suggestion.
Add a Taxi Service avaiable at all the cities.
Reason: waiting for the train can be terribly boring. This way we can speed up things alittle.
Cost: could be higher then train, and depends on player barter skill.

Taxi via players, nothing more to say

Noone will ever let stranger into his shiny highwayman. Actually it is fine idea to allow better traveling around wastes for those who are bored of using their proxy travelling alt and zillion parking tents.

There could be a jalopy bus service along the rail and caravan lines.
Price is 2x the train and comes twice as often. Goes half as fast.
Pay triple to make it "come right now". (= 6x train price)
It can be intercepted into encounters, but has guards.
Maybe have quests to enable it.

As long as it would make player "taxi" ( ::) ) alts obsolete, I'm all for it.

Yey for only max 3 ch guys era :D

Well, probably will not totally eliminate them, but i'm quite sure that they will be reduced by 85%.

Taxiing is just a use for Leader characters. This won't get rid of the alt, just the one use of it. A large group will still need a leader alt to carry them around when hunting or searching for meat in the wasteland.
This would just be an improvement to the train system to make it available in all cities. I don't see anything wrong with that though, as long as it costs money, but it won't be getting rid of alts.

That's a very nice observation, Abe. Along with these "taxi" NPC's, it may be a good idea to add a "hunter" NPC's. Something like this: you come to special NPC and ask if he can help you with hunting. He asks which creatures you want to hunt, and depending on this, he will lead you (and maybe your friends) to that kind of encounter. If this NPC dies, another one will appear on the temporary encounter nearby (red dot, which is normally created with the radio distress signal) to help you with coming back. It may reduce the use of taxi alting by 20-30% more. Something similar may be done to the mercenaries leader.

this idea is what ive always wanted there, but one way taxi 600 caps? why not make it base on level... or barter. i know people have millions of caps, but others dont have crap... like me, i dont play to gather caps, i play for fun and other activities.
-
Mee too ;D
I said that the price, atleast for me, should be based on barter.
-
Why not make a taxi - NPC that bringing you to any square for some caps... square dependant... It`s a taxi after all...

A small addition. Instead of adding a new NPC to every city, it may be a good idea to make him appear after using the radio command. It will give some more use to the radios, plus they will never be found dead, especially if it's an unguarded city. This way everybody wins.

Wait. I honestly don't see anything wrong with 9 Cha + Magnetic Personality characters... There have been player-driven "taxi" companies in the past, what is wrong with that?
If the problem is that those characters are alts, then the problem is the possibility to create alts, but not that particular build itself. Would it be wrong if I decided to create a leader alt to meet newbies in NCR and charge them some caps for a brahmin hunting trip or take them to another town?
If such taxi/hunter NPCs are created, then we would have less activities to do... Leader alts would only be useful for trolling with mercs, and in the end the only form of player interaction would be combat.
I understand that the only way to prevent alting is to give players less reasons to make alts, but in this particular case players would lose a way to interact, and if the only way of interaction between players was combat, then the game would be really dumbed down.

Just add "caravans" (taxis) travelling between towns without railway stations.

I never thought it that way. I really love that stuff mon!

Caravans actually were there, but for some reason they stopped workin' (dunno if bug or devs stopped it to correct some script).
