Title: Black screen
Post by: yoni0505 on June 15, 2011, 11:15:23 pm
I used to play FOnline a while ago.
I have now a new computer, 64-bit and using the intel's GPU (may be relevant).
I downloaded the game and set it up properly, but when I start the game all I see is a black screen and a small part of the top left corner is visible (about the size of the cursor).

What is causing this problem? How do I fix it?

It would be good if you could post a screenshot of how it looks. Also, what does FOnline.log say?

Did you run the updater to make sure you have the latest files?

Here's an image:

I found some errors at the log file:
Code: [Select]
FONames::GetDefineValue - Define<CR_Centipede_default_LG.tga> not found, taked zero by default.
Animation3dEntity::Load - Unknown token<0> in file<art\critters\VbCentipede.fo3d>.
FONames::GetDefineValue - Define<CR_Centipede_Red_LG.tga> not found, taked zero by default.
Animation3dEntity::Load - Unknown token<2> in file<art\critters\VbCentipede.fo3d>.
FONames::GetDefineValue - Define<CR_Centipede_Green_LG.tga> not found, taked zero by default.
Animation3dEntity::Load - Unknown token<3> in file<art\critters\VbCentipede.fo3d>.
FONames::GetDefineValue - Define<CR_Centipede_Blue_LG.tga> not found, taked zero by default.

I updated the game properly.

I tried to reinstall, copy again the .DAT files, change resolution, delete cache.

Which files are relevant to the main menu screen?

I am having the exact same problem! Did you get it fixed? Any help would be appreciated! I also have 64 bit windows 7, both dedicated graphics and integrated. I have tried running the program with both GPUs and get the same problem with both. Black screen with the top left corner only visible... I can see the mouse move in the corner also....very weird! Any help would be greatly appreciated, I really want to try this game out! Thanks!

Windows 7 compatibility mode doesnt changes too much. Lots of things (ok, some a bit old) didnt worked even in compatibility mode. Better you install a virtual machine. Plus, you wont have screwed up graphic in Fallout 1&2  ;D

I tried to use virtual machine but it does the same problem and the launcher won't even start.

I played it on windows 7 before and didn't have that problem...

Had a part-blackscreen once

Happened because some wrong Video Options plus new Interface.
Just Make sure you have re-installed it and don't screw up with the settings. Also read carefully the Help Threads, they helped me also.

I don't think it's the same problem (at least not the one shown in the video).
I tried to reinstall few times, it didn't help.
With the default setting or with a change it didn't work.
>.<

Which help threads? There are many and I'm not sure what to search for.

Nope. I tried to search, what I get is a problem when people see a black screen and it crashes.
My game doesn't crash.

Found the solution!

In the configurator, go to video tab and change "Multisampling 3d" to "Disable" (default is "Auto").
