Title: Shady Sands
Post by: Eternauta on May 19, 2011, 04:05:47 am
I would like the location "NCR" to be renamed "Shady Sands". I was surprised it was not called that in the first place.

Fallout 1 = Shady Sands is a village you can visit. Fallout 2 (later) = Shady Sands has established the NCR with Shady Sands as capital.

Shady Sands (sometimes just called Shady) is the capital of the NCR, a country which, in 2238, includes only Shady Sands and the Hub. Fort Seth is NCR as well, and the government is clearly trying to get more influence on the Boneyard through the instalation of the train system.

If you ask the guard in Fort Seth where "the NCR" is, he will answer "you must mean Shady".

Fresno is already used for a different location in development. Shady Sands is the capital of NCR.
Bakersfield was Bakersfield, now Necropolis. Your point being?

Eh i don't really see the point of the name change, it was called NCR in fallout 2 and since we are a LOT closer to the fallout 2 date and the NCR has been formed/is becoming stronger why should it be changed?

Well, the location is already named Shady Sands. Just point with the mouse on it. The location tab on the right side is a whole different thing, though.

How?

The blue tab with typewriterfont name on it, right on the locationsname table. ;)

Ah yeah i forgot to point out the mouseover "tooltip", same with necropolis too, it tells you it is "build" on the shattered remains of bakersfield.

:P Of course I knew he meant that, but I wanted to how it is different a different think from the "mouseover" description.

Imo, the location is technically called NCR in this server. Because it is show with that name on the right, and also it's the "title" you get when you put your mouse over it, the same way Necropolis is not Bakersfield.

The exact date does not really matter as Shady Sands never really changed its name. Of course NCR was formed but it was a country, while Shady Sands was its capital and kept its name. Imo, in Fallout 2 the location was called NCR and not Shady Sands because it was the only part of the NCR we had access too, while NPCs kept telling us "we control various locations to the south" and stuff. In 2238, we can travel south and visit Fallout 1 areas, now under NCR rule.

It was my stethic point of see. but new location called Fresno? i can see it in my atlas (i suppose is in google maps too): NCR IS Fresno, i dont know how its done, maybe the city become a desert, and after Aradesh make his litle village, but geographically NCR is in Fresno.

No.

Fresno lays southeast of Mariposa/San Francisco.

Shady Sands was built from Scratch, not on prewar ruins.
