Post by: lolo787 on May 18, 2011, 02:42:50 am

I think i like it the way it is, they probably don't want to give too much to a player right at the start.

I say no to this one :/

if this becomes seriously considered then i just hope it doesn't lead to more complaint threads calling people noobs because they were pk'd with only a pistol and STIMPACK on hand and assume everyone has awareness and knows you are level1 with nothing and only started fresh blah blah blah you know where this is going.

Go out and find a Vault City patrol vs Slavers, after they win and loot, take any remains and sell them.
Wasteland is harsh, expecially to newbies.

Ok Thanks But the suggestion can continue why not just for some pks? kick them ban them i know too much people will use it for good that beginning. too much poeploe leave the game because they dont know what to do because they got nothing. :/

A new player is bound to die very soon with the items they have, and an experienced player isn't going to need those items because they know how to easily craft/loot them themselves. So, it's kinda pointless.

This has nothing to do with "evil PKs", also. But yes, ban all PKs, turn server population into <30 people.

I dont think there is anything wrong with having a 10mm pistol, 20x 10mm rounds and a stimpack when u start ur char.
What has the char been doing all this time?? playing Tic-Tac-Toe??

Not evryone has played for 2 yrs and knows the tricks.
while albiet small, at least newbies MIGHT hav a chance of getting to a town without dying.

Why not give the player this kind of reward if he did his "brith"-quest. You know those you can get on your first-spawn map.
The rewards could vary from quest to quest too.

So everybody would be able to get something for the start, but he still didnt get it for free.

i think that 100% of new players would lose their stuff in the very first minute, and old players dont need this kinda support so the suggestion is bad.
edit:  I see that the very same thing was already pointed out, so i just agree.

Instead of giving new players gear maybe they could get a dog that "doesnt die".
A dog that just seems to keep going wherever the player goes and if it dies it'll reappear after a while, limping like it's been thru hell and back.
When the player hits level 5 or so the dog'll dissappear.

Or give them "newbie" gear
stuff that cant be dropped and carries with them through death but cant be repaired and will eventually break.

Like someone stated already, that will probably be useless, but if that could help even one newb over 10 staying and enjoying the game, maybe it's worth trying.
It would be best to have a skippable tutorial in which u can learn the basics and get some xp/items, something like temple of trials from F2. Experienced players will skip it anyway, and no one would create alts to get a 10mm and few xp, so it can't be exploited.

I heard that after WIPE NPC followers will respawn like players.
If it will be implemented then You could just gather some roots or junk, then craft some powders or bb ammo and sell it (it will be around 1200caps).
You will have enough caps to buy a dog. No need to give something for free.

What's the problem in not leveling new char and keeping magic dog forever?

How would you do that? You will gain some exp from outdoorsman skill, no matter if you have 20 or 200% skill.

Not if you stay stay in one location, and logs in only when needed. Don't tell me you won't find use of immortal follower in unguarded town :P

How about you get gear when you first spawn/whenever you respawn up until level 3/4?

And I'm talking absolute basic gear. I would suggest we bring back pipe rifles and zip guns explicitly for this purpose, and make them fire ammo that can be crafted from flint. Not giving them 9mm or mausers or whatever, but stuff specifically designed for this purpose. We also make the items worth $0.

SHOOTING ROCKS AT BAD GUYS.

Oh, and if someone presents the argument that 'What's to stop people suiciding to get an infinite supply of these shitty guns?'. Nothing. But if people would rather allow themselves to be killed than craft the most absolutely basic gear then it's more a problem with crafting than with giving out basic gear.

However this is all irrelevant as we all know that giving players anything for free means the entire game will collapse and nobody will ever have fun again and hello kitty portal 2 wasteland harsh

allright, let me clear this up for this kid(he is a kid i know it)
first, the wasteland is harsh, PK-ing is a way to get stuff, why to ban someone if he kills you? i mean if FOnline was real Life and a raider come to you and rob you, will you pray to god that a light will come and take that raider in hell?

second, use google translate to translate from your native language in english so we can better understand your posts

third, every player can hide his stuff in a secret location in a city, like behind a wall or in a public toilet, who the hell goes there?

forth, find or invite some friends, this game is shit to play alone, try joining a gang

I think if you really want to help new players then make the brahmin herders give you some quest to bring them ten hides. Once you complete the quest he doesnt want them for some reason and give them back.
The important part being that you dont have to give him all ten hides at once.
Im not sure i like this though, finally building that first tent felt as good as beating most endgame bosses.

Imho fact is that players tends not to read forum/wiki before starting to play, so especially non fallout nerds will find the game extremely rough and probably quit in the few first days.. having a dedicated tutorial map where u can learn the basics of crafting, fighting or whatever could help newbs to get more involved into the game.

For example having some quests like "craft your first gun" or "bring brahmins pelts to the guy xyz" would be a nice idea too, and could be implemented with npcs in this map.

"craft your first gun"
http://www.fo2238.fodev.net/wiki/Scavenge_for_Lorraine
It tells you about crafting and gathering resources. True, more these like quests are needed.

That quest was by far the most useful thing i found when starting out, quite why its in boneyard but not the citys is beyond me.
