Title: Retinal scanner locksets.
Post by: Ulrek on April 29, 2011, 04:21:23 pm
Alright. the idea is pretty simple.

If you have high enough science and possibly the energry expert 3 prof. then you should be able to place retina scanners on your base lockers and cars. to make it so that only characters that are scanned in to it and listed as allowed to use it may unlock it.

Yes. i know this is a bit high tech, what we have these devices now. and fallout is meant to be set in the future.

This would also only really help loners. as gangs would have to scan every alt in to a car before they could use it. so they'd just leave them lock picked.

You should be able to park your car inside a -guarded- town without it being hijacked and driven away by just anyone. even before the guards could shoot him when he first opens your door. or before you could even shoot him. since lock picking automaticly puts you on the WM with the guard, and you don't become unprotected. even though it is stealing.

I like the idea of being able to park a car in a PROTECTED city and not having it stolen, but i don't really want to see 30 cars sitting in NCR+blocking people to hell.

If it would be unlockpickable, I think it should be possible to kill a person and take his/her eye to open the car (and all his/her cars protected by retinal scanners).
The eye would rot after a short time. So the car would be safe from thieves, but you would have to stay alive or not be killed recently.
Probably real scanner wouldn't work that way but it's in popular culture in some games, movies etc ;)

About blocking problem, I think in PROTECTED towns there could be a fee for parking place.

@Reginmund
Toxic Caves elevator had to be opened with an electronic lockpick  ;)

IIRC scanners in Sierra were immune to lockpick/science/repair. But they were quite bulky as well.

There should be a Tow Truck vehicle that can be used to tow away cars to be picked at leisure.

Great. As long as you can take the persons eye when they die.

Nah, i didn't like the idea. cars are supposed to be stolen when encountered, thats what makes them valuable. so i dont support the "unpickable lock" suggestion.

Maybe if you have the eye in your inventory, you can see the car on world map. Until the eye don't destroy it self. And only thr person who add the scaner can open and drive the car. This can be the minus of Retinal scanner.

Eh? How the fuck would having the eye in your inventory show you where the car is.

Eh? How the fuck would having the eye in your inventory show you where the car is.
How the fuck a metal armor deflect laser better than normal bullets?
How the fuck an eyeshot with a laser rifle can cut the enemies chest in 2 pieces?
How the fuck a critical eyeshot with a .223 pistol can blow a huge hole in the chest of target?
How the fuck can you craft a tent using only hides?
How the fuck can you craft a primitive tool using only a piece of flint?
How the fuck can you shout in the middle of NCR 60 times in a row without taking a breath?
How the fuck can this game be not even close real life?

Fallout is not real life simulator, but there is a difference between in-game logic, eye candy and plain bullshit.

Metal deflecting laser - it's in-game logic (in Fallout metal reflects laser weapons, maybe it isn't scientifically correct, but it's a believable bullshit that fits the world)
Cutting people in half with eye shot - it's eye candy and lazy developers who made limited amount of death animations
Finding cars on a world map thanks to someone's eye - it's plain bullshit that doesn't fit the world at all

See the difference?

My only bitch about metal deflecting so much laser is that no other weapon type has a hard counter like that. What gives?

I think it was originally merely because of the master, who had 2x gatling laser.

Ok, so if you have eye in the inventory. You can use since on the corps, and get the location from the death men pipboy. Or maybe just the name of the zone where the car is located. To look for it by yourself.

Better ??

As well as mutants with it. No idea why it was continued in F2, where enemies equipped with laser weaponry are quite rare.
