Title: making it easier for new players: Re-make your char at level 10
Post by: yougart on April 28, 2011, 02:35:24 am
Hey there! i've just come up with a noob-friendly idea: the idea is that, when your character reaches lvl 10, you can redesign it's stats, skills, traits and perks (not the name, age nor gender).

plus:

-new players who realize, reaching lvl 10, that they've made a crappy character, can remake their character and keep their stuff and xp, and carry on without too much trouble---less decouragement and quitting
-would declutter the server from the hundreds of low lvl character created by new players who create a new char everytime they learn something about the game
-we would see a lot more variety, imaginative and experimental characters (under lvl10)

con:

-would be abused by creating fast leveling templates to quickly reach lvl 10 then switch.but is it such a problem?anyone who's fine tuning chars got the logistic to level up in 2 days anyway.

how to: since perk cant stack up, maybe easier to give the char who uses that fonction 10 golden apples, each setting the char lvl to X[2;10]. they can be used one by one to pick perks each 3 levels.

that function could be used over lvl 10, but getting the character back to lvl 10 anyway.

your opinions are welcome!

wow this is... a really cool idea.  especially for newbies.  +900,000

EVERYONE who ever start fonline ALWAYS fucks up their first build... (Unless you read the forums intently before starting)  which is very discouraging.

i eat (read this verb in past please, my bad english) all the wikia and the forum before do my first char, make super killing alts and crafter alts only took me two builts. all my builts are self-made, they arenot perfect, but i know how the game works
knowledge is half of the battle

but yes read all that things was very boooring, i vote yes to this idea.

This is a very interesting suggestion, indeed.

You have my vote.

Lv10 is Tanker Quest level... so I guess I'll make lockpicker/molerat killer, then switch over to crafter or sneak/sniper

Doesn't really matter, as OP pointed out, the ones who will get most value out of this already have massive support and are probably cheating, too.

So what the hell.

This will also make Thief, Lockpicker, Sneak, and Bomber specialists way easier to level- just make them combat and/or lucrative crafter, level to 10, then FLIP.

That's why I'd vote nay.

Yup and when people respawn from death this can be abused too. The whole game can be abused! Oh no! Hey look, a gang full of lvl 10 people decide to do the tanker quest indefinatley by making new chars to get free miniguns, CA and sniper rifles! Abuse! ABUSE!

But anyway +1 for idea.

no man take it seriously, some type of characters are really hard to be leveled up. For example if you want to make suicide bomber with 300% traps skill. (120% science is also needed so you could make dynamite)

Leveling account like this can be really hard, but it would be very easy to level up unarmed figher on molerats. Also you could joine to various factions with 10 charisma, then jut remake it into your powerbuild. It is too easy to be abused.

Well it could be abused but I see the problem with the lost of hard work. I mean where is the fun with lets level on molerats?
Personally I had a lot of fun with my first char who has a messed up build but i still made him reach lvl21 he reached that level mainly thanks to my stubborn attitude but I'm ok with that even if others would probably just deleted him.
If we really want to make it possible to change stats we could make the game start with lvl21 char I mean its almost the same as creating a char that instantly lvl21 which would take the fun away well for me at least.

you see no fun in any leveling when you do it 99999th time. You just want it to do faster, and this suggestion would help you to abuse that perfectly.

I see what you mean now. Before I was looking at it in the ideal way it would be used but now that you gave an example like that...

Since the capability of abuse this suggestion is too big, we should not take care of it more, it could be a nice idea for beginers, but the oldplayers will have a lot of ways of abuse this.
SUGGESTION UNAVAILABLE

We'd have level 10 players with 100% of their points send on barter, then? Sounds like a great improvement to "barter alts" :P

It's not like there's any way of eliminating alts...  or dual logs...  or exploits....  or over-noob/newb-harvesting...

I still vote yes, 99.9% of newbies mess up their first character, something along these lines is required...

Of course we could always have a tutorial....  But nah, that's never gonna happen, it's unfallouty.

"Will this be a fight to the death?"
"No, @pname@. This is a fair hand to hand fight, to determine if you are the chosen one, or not. I will strike my hands down if I see you are truely good fighter." (don't have the original message here now).

In an cRPG with multiple paths, you aren't "supposed" to do anything.

people already make alts for it, difference is it will actually help new players

really tiring to see all these blocked / nerfed things just to (slightly) get to the abusers

The abusers find a way to over abuse that block and the legit players get rammed in the ass

well there was suggestion made, which would not allow to be abused: http://fodev.net/forum/index.php?topic=14716.0
but in same time you would need to re-levelup :>

It [Temple of Trials] was based on what *tribals* would consider to be "ready for the world".

The way Black Isle implemented it though was wrong, an RPG that's designed to be replayed numerous times should have atleast given the player the option to skip the temple... Even former Black Isle employees have said the temple of trials was a mistake.

End of the discussion about the temple of trials here - thanks. You can open a new thrad somewhere to talk about it (Also there were already a few suggestions about adding one in 2238, so search before you do that).

I think we're safe from that suggestion Izual. the temple of trials isnt something MANY of us want to see return ;)

As I see it, power gamers who make alts make alts, anyway. If they can do it in one day instead of two, well...explain me how that's gonna kill the game? Instead of raising a char to be a decent fighter, then gaining 10 more lvl spent on bartering, people will just raise a PVEer to lvl 10 and revert him to a lvl 10 barter. So we're talking about...what? a 12hr xping difference?Big deal!

Maybe we could get some skills out of the deal, such as stealing, explosion, which are not usual newbies skills anyway.

I think i may lack sufficient experience of the game to see how it can be abused, so please give me examples.thanks.

This is one of the best arguements thus far.  +1  (Btw its more like 4 hours if you go on it straight)
