Just write FOnline 2238 and the website or something under that.

Yes, ripping off some random thing is totally the way to go!

Otherwise, not a so bad idea - when game will be released.

Don't forget to write "donate" somewhere

I was  thinking about doing this myself, BUT, think about it, if we gained another 100 players, or hell, 400 players, this game would not be able to function.  It would be laggy and overcrowded beyond imagination.

There were a times when there was like 600 players in peak hours, now its 300. Maybe with some technical difficulties, but not overcrowded.

How fast would new players come, that fast would they leave becouse this game is so troll friendly that only trolls can survive here(in having fun case). What a masters, such a game.

Derp, you all need a reality check.

We're living in the age of iPlayboxtendo 364 DS Slim. When you tell the casual, average Joe that you play video/computer games, they will most likely think of something like "Gears of Halo" or "Call of Warcraft" or "Duty Fortress 2". These games have on-screen tutorials and some are shipped with audio-visual tutorials on how to play the game, they're even telling people "Durr hurr press up to go forward", meaning that there may be some people who have such problems.

The likelyhood that nowadays we will persuade the public mass to play FOnline, a game with graphics made for the hardware available 15 years ago, and graphic interface and controls not being shouted into the knobhead's ears, is less than slim.

It is saddening of course that nowadays graphics is the pressing issue in games, but it is a good thing to keep up with the news.

So, a good way to advertise this game is to reach out to communities that are not picky about graphics or complexity of controls.

to sum up what Lehytek said (and I strongly agree with those words):

Kids are getting dumper and dumper (in general) as years goes by! :D

Cheers for old, one of a kind games like Fallout series!

Not everything is about graphics.
Fallout New Vegas with more than 2 years old engine and still its one of the most successful game in last year. Because of content.

There are few reasons why there cannot be 600 players anymore.

1, Limited Fallout community. Lack of propagation is the issue too.

2, Release of SDK.
With SDK release there are more servers of fonline. Like requiem with 150 - 200 people. And before requiem players, were playing on TLA or 2238.
And another more projects are coming with every month.
If you have 1000 fonline players, they will split on these servers.

2238 has advantage of early start. So there are more things done than on the other servers.
But actuall progress is very slow. In compare with other projects.
And that is because of the lack of manpower. 1-2 scripters for such large project like 2238, is just insufficient.
There are a lot of great suggestions, but no manpower to implement them.
Fix bugs or to make a simple change such as autorun, it takes 1-2 months. And community see that.

Number of players is strongly dependand, on the amount of work, what is done on the server.
And work on MMORPG never ends. Players want always new stuff.

But some propagation will be a good thing to support 2238.

But Im not sure that developers want to have more players on the server.
More players means more fun. But more players also means more demand for work to be done from devs side.

My god, can we cut that bullshit already? Just to remember everyone: There was a time too, where we released daily updates. Sometimes even twice or more. But after two years of continued working nonstop, things can change.

Post by: Hovinko on February 25, 2011, 12:11:42 pm
Things always change, community see that. But for community isnt important what was here before 2 years or so.

Community see progress in last 6 months and compare it with another projects like 2077 and Requiem.

I know being a developer is harsh, everyone only critize you. Same being a GM. And after 2 years of steady work everyone will be tired.

So im saying, that there obviously isnt enough manpower.
If someone think that 3 devs can work on such project like 2238 steadily for 3 years and dont break, they are dreaming. They dont even get paid.
Problem of slowing down developement isnt in you devs, everyone gets naturaly tired after some time. Fresh blood is just needed.

Obviously if there can be projects like Requiem and 2077, there are skilled scripters which can be helpfull and maybe willing to help.

It is not about speed.

It is about amount of work which is getting done. And that is only about manpower.

Btw I dont understand your policy in changes.

If you know about problem or possible ugprade. If you have completed the solution. And if restart is only thing which is need for putting that into game.
Why wait a month for patch ? For example change with autorun distance (http://fodev.net/forum/index.php?topic=13113.0)

These changes can be done in like 1 hour and it will be greatly appreciated by whole community.

I vote for smaller changes in a little bit more frequent way.  :)

Ahh kk.

I must say, i dont know how system of updates works.
For example if there is some limits of how often it can be done, due to other system settings.

For example info that new locations can be ADDED only with wipe. Because nature of fonline main code need wipe to do that, was for me a new info...

More explanations how and why things work like they do. Will be much appreciated. :)

Lexx meant that if you add a feature, it might break another feature. For example if you buff small guns before big guns buff is finished development, an unbalance is created.

We have planned to make the next update pretty soon. It should have been done already a few days ago, but now we got some (engine) issues with critter animations that needs to be fixed first.

That's not 100% correct. New locations can be added with a normal update too, but it has to be spawned manually then.

If someone can send me good looking advert from 2238 then i can get visitors/possible players.

We talked about advertising FOnline2238 on Polish subforum. From what I remember our conclusions were something like these:
1. No need to advertise until beta is finished (yea, I know it might never get out of beta ^^).
2. Advertising such thing as good old classy Fallout world should'nt be hard but there is need of separation it from whole Fallout3 business.
3. There are people ready and happy to do that.

I might miss few...

I think It's better to advertise on indie game/developers boards, RPG/MMORPG forums and stuff like that. But remember we're still in open beta phase ;)

bottom line the bigger the player base the better off fonline will be, more people willing to help, donate, ect... dosen't matter if it's in beta or not. More people will only help stress test and balance the game!

Actually we'd do perfectly fine with the current ammount if everyone of the around 200 people would donate and report.

When quality of game has lowered level, players trying to improve it getting more players by advertising it.
all is gone, you just gotta realize only reason why you playing here anymore is friends you maded, and playing with them.
Yes evryone remembers when there was 3x more players here and after each update they got away. and so is attitude overral gone wrong.
All you remember was "golden ages" its just one way for this, and nothing can save this game from total destruction in few years. from nice indie game to total piece of crap, Its game over Man!

True, but I also been seeing some kids that don't mind lower graphics and actually like the *gameplay* so if in a group of people you get 1 more player to this game, still good.

I myself am leery of public advertising with flyers in regards to this game.  Fallout is intellectual property of what's-their-faces, and advertisement through posters in public places... uh, territory going that I would rather make sure would not get yourself, or us, in shit for.  Might be nothing, but eh...

Nice motivation, but when you are using someone elses property, it should at least be considered, as it always should be when pondering such.

I'm also wary of the success of such a campaign.

First, you post a flyer in a public place.

How many people that see it are going to be Fallout fans?
How many are going to be fans of the first two games?
How many are interested enough to play a fanmade MMO based on those games?
How many, if they try it, will actually want to stick around?
