Title: Message items
Post by: Alvarez on January 27, 2010, 09:33:30 pm
I hereby suggest message items.

How about a readable holodisc or some old-fashioned sheet of paper?
To leave a message, put the item in your active slot and enter your message in the chat box with a tag, like:

"m/Hello Chief, i borrowed some 5mm ammo from the box. Minigunner."
The message will be left in the box so that Chief can read it.

To read the message, Chief puts it in his active slot and uses it. The message appears then in the text window.
Chief can also delete the message, using a appropriate tag to use the holodisc again.

What do you think about it, is it possible to realise?

I like this one, and to be honest there have been times when I needed a way to do something like this. Holodisks would be a good idea.

Oh my goddess!
AWESOME_TEAM returns to the base. [A_T]GODLIKE69 looks into the crate to take some ammo for next grinding adventure, but the only thing he notices inside is a piece of paper. [A_T]GODLIKE69 takes the piece of paper and reads the text slowly word by word.

'Nyan was here. AWESOME_TEAM is babies'

I was just thinking of this same idea. i would love to be able to leave holodisk messages, and be able to download them the my pipboy... i would also like to be able to leave messages on the Base computer system for other members to see...

A+

and it doesn't seem like it should be too hard of a feature to add... but i'm no programmer

Reading and writing Holodiscs is already ingame, but you can't find any Holodiscs, because they are still bug vulnerable.

When it will be bugs-free, don't forget to add "remove entry" option, or our Pip-Boys will become trashcan very fast ;)

Nevarrr!

The ancient technology of deleting was lost with passing ages...
Nowdaways, you delete the message by using "SCIENCE!", breaking the data carrier into small pieces and eating them. ;D

- Have you read my memo yet?
- Yep, have some junk.

If we can store info, why not... "borrow" them too? Knockdown someone, use some item on him and we transfer memos from his/her PipBoy to our. Wasteland h4x0rZ :P

If i may ask, what is the main bug issue on holodisc, Lexx?

If you spawn a new holodisc, it displays random messages on there. They are not empty by default.

But is it a problem to edit it, or is the message a part of item's property, requiring a new Holodisc for every message? (like: Holodisc000001This holodisc reads "Its a message number one", Holodisc000002And this holodisc reads "Its a second message...etc.)

Or would it work like a delayed radio message, where the "using" of holodisc would trigger the data receiving in message box, previously saved on 2238server?
Would the server handle the amount of those saved messages? (Data decay would be appropriate)
