Title: From noob to pgm !
Post by: Plaristote on December 27, 2010, 07:03:21 pm
Hi !

I'm trying to start FOnline and there's a lot of things I'm not sure I understand.

My first character die, and apparently he won't ressurect (after 10 minutes he was still dead), so I created another one and noticed you have to wait 10 minutes before connecting to another character, even if you just created it.
I'm also wondering : I think the 10 minute countdown restart EACH TIME you try to connect to your new character. Is this the regular behaviour for that feature ?

Also, with my second character (borned near Vault City), I tried to start shoveling the brahmin shit : first I didn't know how to use the shovel, so I accidently hit a brahmin and get killed. I noticed you can't get a shovel from the same guy twice. So I went to Gecko, shoveled more, then tried to go to Vault City, had a random encounter with an armed ghoul (which killed me in less than 5 seconds, even though I was running as fast as I could), and lost the second shovel. No more shovel for me, apparently.

It would be nice if I could destroy the existing character by the way (I won't use them anymore, they're useless now).

So I tried to create a third character, but I can't play with him : even though I waited 20 minutes between its registration and the first connection attempt, it still tells me that I have to wait 10 minutes before playing it. How come ?

Is this a bug, or am I forbidden to create more characters ?

(I must say it's a very frustrating game, at least at the beginning ^^ ! But I've seen Youtube videos, and the game looks so cool when you leveled your guy ! I approve the free PvP, it's exactly what I'm looking for in a MMORPG !)

Are you sure he's dead? He might have been mortally injured and just knocked below zero hitpoints. He should be alive by now somewhere.

Log in the character, press enter and type ~deleteself *your password*

This.

You die at -20 HP, not 0. On your first character, type: "~cuttheveins" on the typing bar on the client. This will kill you, letting you respawn after 60 seconds. To insure your character always fully logs out, quit the client on the World Map.

The reason you are not able to relog after 10 minutes is because your character is not dead, and won't logout because he is unconscious (<0 HP)

If you want to delete/be able to restart a character, type "~deleteself password" on client. After it gives you a stated me that your character will be deleted, log out and wait 3 minutes for it to be fully deleted.

Make sure your shovel is set to "Use on". You can change this by right-clicking the icon when it is in your hands. (Make sure target is yellow, not red).

Some of the dialog to get the old shovel is messed up, but you can always craft your own shovel. Find pieces of junk in random urban maps, or buy some. Then find "flint" in random desert/mountain tiles, make Primitive Tool out of it, and cut down trees in random encounter maps.

Then, with the junk and wood, make your own shovel! Even though shit-shoveling is about the most unproductive thing in the game.

This.
Plaristote, you can make as many characters as you want (you just can't play with both of them at the same time)

There is some kind of time-out for getting a shovel.
No idea how long it is, but after an x amount of real-time hours you can get a new one.
They're also on sale everywhere for 1 cap, so they're not hard to get by.

Another question.

What happens when you forgot the name of one of your character ?
I cannot remember the name of my first one (seriously, I've been trying all day... no clue !)... and it appears I can't get back to my second one (the one I played all day... stoped 2 hours ago, and now can't play with because of the "10 minutes cooldown").

I was too lazy to cut the veins of my first one yesterday, and now I can't remember his name >< ! Ima so screwed... can thee help ?

You should write down the names and passwords of your characters in a text doc or something, as your client doesn't remember them.  They're all like their own separate accounts.
And the shovel timeout isn't long, I don't think.  So yeah, go grab another shovel after a few hours.
With the shovel equipped, right click on it until you get "Use On" then left click on it and click on the shit.

Well.
Looks like I have to stop playing Fonline :/ ! GM can't fix anything without a name. So the only solution would be to change my IP, which will not happen for a few years.
Would be nice to have a feature to get all characters bound to an IP though.

I very often have this problem of 10 min cooldown even if I didn't played since weeks, I have a second install that I use in that case. You should try.

Tried to delete the cache files?

Seems like the cache file are the to ones in the data folder ?

I tried removing all of them (game crashes),
Or only one of them (tried both), and the result is the same.

Mmmh, maybe a register key problem? I really don't know enough about that to solve it if it's the problem.

Well it's a really strange thing.

Right now, I managed to connect my character. I'm starting to think that I can only connect at some hours (yesterday I did connect my character at more or less the same time than today, middle-afternoon)... strange... maybe I just can't connect it on the morning/night.
