Nobody should have awareness. We shouldn´t be able to see other people's HPs.
We should ALL and ALWAYS be able to see these details:
-General condition (Unhurt, Almost dead, etc.)
-Crippled limbs and which one.
-Which KIND of weapon they are using (shotgun, rifle, spear, pistol, SMG, mingun, spear, knife) but not exactly which one unless we have 100+ skill points in the combat skill the actual weapon belongs to.
-Which kind of armor (jacket, leather, metal, combat) but not exactly which one (unless we have 100+ Repair? cause Repair is realted to the Armorer profession).
EDIT: may someone please tell me why the post won't show everything I had typed? I see no characters limit, and I had typed much longer suggestions.
-
Negative. Enough limits, nerfing, deleting, removing, disabling, whatever.
-
Enough limits
Enough limits? like what, limited Action Points?
Without Awareness you do not know exactly how powerful a player you run across is. You only know he is Unhurt but you can't be sure if he has 40, 100 or 220 hit points. You can only guess by the armor they are wearing and/or weapons they are wielding.
Right now it's just "well look here, that guy wears Metal Armor mk II but only has 70 hp, I'm gonna rape him". Without the ability to see his hp this kind of behaviour would not be so common. A guy in Metal Armor mk II could be a powerful one or maybe just a low level dude who had some caps and bought some armor to look scary. And a bluesuit could be a total noob or a 21 level motherfucker in disguise, hiding a FN FAL in his other item slot.

I knew I had read something like this before:
I suggest we scrap awareness, but keep the mouse hover-over status Awareness provides - Almost Dead, Wounded, etc.
A world without Awareness would be a much more interesting one. You'd have to actually make a tactical decision when you encountered a stranger in the desert - do I feel confident enough I can take this guy? It keeps you on your toes. You don't know if that punk in a leather jacket has 40hp and a sawnoff or 180hp and a sniper rifle. And he doesn't know the same about you. The mystery makes it feel that little bit more real.
To me, that's a good thing.
This is Badger's reply to this post: http://fodev.net/forum/index.php?topic=9853.0

I Cant live with Awarness, Dont remove it lol

If you "can't" live with it, the best thing would be to remove it, heh.
Think about it man. You would not be able to see the hp of that guy you jsut encountered. But neither can he, see your hp.

Real player don't need Awareness to survive in wasteland.
If i got 6LK i take toughness as lvl 3 perk.

Hmmm... right... but my suggestion goes a bit further from just that.

Agreed. Only reason why some of these cannot be viewed now is due to limited ammount of models. For example armor and weapon will be easier to notice if 3d gets implemented.

Never ...

And then, he kills you (or try to) because, well, you could be one of these guys with a lot of hit points and bad intentions.
-
Yeah no kidding, at least with Awareness you can know that the person who just dropped in on your encounter has 200+ hp, a p90, and an evil look in his eye, that gives you a chance to RUN LIKE HELL. Any other option is to FOREVER run like hell, which is one of the things the devs have been trying to make less of a requirement in the wasteland, at least with some of the posts in the changelog for this last wipe.

I could. I could also be a neutral or APK guy who happens to have a lot of hp and tier 3 gear, but no bad intentions, and who will burst you dead if you attack, but not if you don't.

But sadly the majority of players will react the other way. Don't suggest to remove one of the best helps for beginners (and for game experts as well, of course :P).

Yeah especially since it seems the pvp system is gonna be as is for while. Anything we can use to survive we NEED.

We don't have NC, if we take this way of gameplay, awareness have to be removed too.

OK.
"Goodbye awareness!"

Clap. Clap. Clap.
Congratulations. You have just earned Surf Solar's "A Raider and a Molerat walk into a bar..." achievment.

It's not the first suggestion for this kind of treatment to the awareness perk, but same as in the others, I agree.
Showing the exact amount of hp of the opponent is just bad in my book...
-
What about merc leader builds? Exact HP is pretty useful in knowing if i want to doc them or not super mutants could be down 100 hp and only be slightly hurt.

That could be an exception, after all they are NPCs under your control, in some way. I like your reply, constructive critic. Something we really need in this forum. Thanks.

aybe awarness should show percentage of health? It will not show EXACTLY amount of HP, but you will know better about smeones health, then normal players without this perk...
But then it will be useless perk. With 3D graphics you will be alble to say what kind of armor or weapon someone is carrying and awarness wouldn't show exact hp... I dunno about this idea, coz it will make it useless ;/

You already see this. "He looks:unhurt" "He looks:hurt" "He looks: Wounded" "He looks: Severly Wounded" "He looks: Almost Dead". They all represent percentage of players health. That's why I find the Awareness Perk utterly useless.

Well if you have 2 enemies lvl 1 and lvl 21, one of them having 10hp and 100hp youll curse you didnt burst the second one from minigun instead of the first one :p
-
Yes, and? Awareness takes away all the "risk" you can do with this. "Oh look, that guy only has 100 hp, lets burst him." "Oh noez, that guy has 250, I run away.". It's just stupid.
-
Nice idea. I like it. But its really useful to make an exception for the slaves / mercs / brahmins / dogs as was said a few posts ago.
-
@To "random dude entered my encounter" guys
Random encounters system (spawning distance, perception checks, placement, lack of information that someone entered encounter, rolls for random encounters etc etc) sucks and it has nothing to do with Awareness being in-game or not.
I agree that getting so little information about other players without having Awareness perk is bad... as bad as sticking to SPECIAL made for single-player turn-based game.
-
This perk needs to be changed, currently it ruins the danger of the wasteland. If you know how much health a person has you can instantly tell if they're a threat and that's not right. I can understand being able to tell what gun they're using but knowing exactly how much health they have is just wrong. Maybe something like a more detailed description of the person when you look at him, such as say he has 48/62 hp it would give a status of his condition telling you if he has crippled limbs(who couldn't tell if someone had a broken leg) and a state like Green: healthy, Yellow: roughed up, Orange: badly wounded, Red: almost dead. These states would change based off of total health so if a player has 70/140 he would be in orange state.

Actually.. It's a GOOD thing.

A normal build has only 7 perks to choose... Perks are very powerful "tools", taking one perk means big advantage in the direction you took the perk for. They are the essentials of the character. Taking a perk should be rewarding, because the player had to sacrifice something else very important to get this.

This suggestion is about SACRIFICING awareness which tells you exact number of hit points.

honestly, i think this is great idea! showing status like:
Hurt
Rifle (or Automatic, or SMG, or something else, but not so specific)
Left Leg broken
etc.
