The idea is that repair gets similar ability as first aid and doctor to buff a player. It could be called Bracing and only usable on armors worn by the character himself. Requirement would be armorer profesion. A char can only brace armors equivalent to his armorer profesion level.
What the ability would do is to strenghten the armor worn by the char. You basically apply metal parts or other materials on your armor and receive small defensive benefits. Once you remove the armor, the benefits disappear. You cannot brace another char and no other char can get braced bonuses from an armor braced by you.
You may only brace your suit once. I mean you may get benefits from one material at a time. For example if junk gave +2% to normal dmg res, you could use good metal parts and gain +2 to DT, but it would replace the benefits received from junk.
Materials used would vary from junk, gecko skins, metal parts to quality alloys and chemicals.
The whole idea represents the way a skilled armorer covers weak spots of his armor with improvized materials he scavenges.

nice ideea

Nice suggestion dude, same system should work with any profession, fe. Small gun crafter can improve range/dmg/penetration of his rifle etc.

good ideas

The suggestion is nice, but the downside to this is that crafter alts aren't used for combat.
At most they're fighting critters in order to level.

And that's freakin reason :D
I love idea. Fire gecko skins for temporialy increase fire resistance. Golden gecko skins to boost leather armors. etc.
Brilliant!

It's your problem if you have a crafting alt who doesn't fight.
The idea sounds great.

I agree.

Although the suggestion is good, it's not getting crafting alts to fight.
A lot of people don't level their crafter alt after it gets the 3rd profession.
Even if they get to level 21 they're no match for fighter builds.
I only have 1 crafter alt, armorer prof. 3, SG prof. 1.
It's a hybrid with 9 CH, so not much need for fighting skills :D

Pfft, armorer sm bg and ew crafters get a boost what does teh doctor get? Brotherhood armor that can shit out a stimpack when you get below a certain hp amount?

So You won't use it. What's Your problem? I have character, hybrid of armor crafter and fastshoot. It is not the greatest killer but such thing could give me a small boost. It won't be better then powerbuilds but he will become a little better fighter. It comes in handy with decreasing difference powerbuilds and crafters.

I kinda predicted what might happen after this (http://fodev.net/forum/index.php?topic=10074.msg86819#msg86819) steps in. If all chars got their pvp and profesion side, everyone would obviously choose doctor because doctors get an ability to heal cripples and do first aid. Other profesion skills need something similar to doctor and FA.
Even now it wouldn't be all that awful idea to get 3rd level repair if you could brace your suits, instead of doc or FA. First aid can be re-placed with super stims.

This sounds like something from WoW. Onl difference is in WoW, armor kits can be sold.
If the devs follow through on seperating crafting from combat then this is a great idea.

This... or make crafting perks like Armorer (benefit bonus DT and DR while wearing an armor (depending on type) req armorer 3 - drawback decreased AP), Gunsmith (SG or BG range and a bit damage increased, decreased deterioration or 0? SG/BG lev 3 req) etc or the perks could be voluntary to take with profession level 3, just a though
