1) which perk is better: ranger (+15 outdoorsman) or survivalist (+25 outdoorsman)
i'm asking because in the description for ranger it reads:
"You gain a +15% toward your Outdoorsman skill. You are more likely to avoid random encounters if you choose, and tend to find those "special" encounters more than most."
is there some added bonus to the ranger skill for avoiding encounters which is not directly derived from the outdoorsman skill?
and what does it mean by "special" encounters?
2) if i kill faction npc's in the desert does it result in reputation loss to that faction
eg: i find junktown scouts and kill them
3) do the caravan missions actually work? i try to be there on the same day as the caravan leaving and the guy just says "no job today"....
4) can i tag a fourth skill at some time later in the game?
cheers in advance for any help
-
1. Survivalist
2. Yes
3. Nope.
4. No.
-
thanks m8 :)
-
To add to that:
- "special encounters" are not affected by any perks in FOnline, that's only in F2.
- you get -25 Rep per shot on a NPC faction in a random encounter.
- caravan quest aren't implement ["yet" I hope], so no.
- "Tag!" perk in F2 can be gotten at level 12, but for some reason, it isn't in FOnline, I don't know why.

No, wiki needs updating. Yu can find em in Vault 15 west (or is it east? Just go to the rigt of ncr till you see it) and go to the top level and use repair on one of the computers. Only one specific computer gives parts though, should be located top-left of the screen.
There are rats, pigrats, and molerats. And don't get freaked out if they start "squeking" :P.

how do i fill my empty water bag?

Put it in your hand, click the water bag, click the well.

Put it in your hand, click the water bag, click the well.
tried it - and it says "that does nothing"
-
Hold-left click the water pump so that a backpack the Inventory icon shows up, go to your inventory though that, then click the water bag.
-
tried it - and it says "that does nothing"
Wierd, always worked for me.
-
reloading the water definately doesn't work - not on the well in hub anyway
it is probably a specific problem to that well - bug probly
-
It's not a well that you need. It's a water pipe. And only some work. If you scroll over it, it should be outlined in yellow.
-
ok wil try that
7) why do npc factions sometimes attack me out in the desert?
i encountered junktown scouts and geckos - all the geckos died - some from my bullets some from the scouts
i didn't think the scouts were interested in the skins so i went to picking them up - i picked up about 5 and i thought no problem (apart from this one scout who was saying things like "dont come any closer" but not shouting)
anyway my stadning to junktown isn't bad - i have -256 to hub citizens buts thats it
so why did the junktown scouts blow my brains out?
edit: so i lost all my best stuff to a silly death (again)
-
it only takes aprox 2 seconds standing next to one of those before they attempt blowing your brains out.
Which they succeeded at rarely, in this case :-X.
-
so basically standing next to an npc patrol member was the act they considered aggressive?
i've also been attacked by merchants for having my weapon out - but in that case the guards shouted at me to put my weapon away
-
Coming too close to most npc faction members is what gets you shot.
Rave party is an exception, I think there are 1 or 2 more.
If you're a VC citizen you can approach their caravans and patrols with a weapon in your hand with no problem at all.
They let you come close, pick up stuff, etc.
Just don't pick stuff up during the fight, wait till it finishes and they returned to their starting position.
You can heal wounded VC patrol and caravan members for +1 xp.
I don't know for sure, but I assume BoS and Enclave work similar.

8) I want to catch a train from boneyard station - but i don't really want to go there to check what the next train is or where its going.
So is there a train timetable for each of the stations in the game?

The wiki is our friend ;D.

10) anyone know where i can get a green condom?

10) anyone know where i can get a green condom?
Cave
-
Cave
what cave?
-
what cave?
Random caves in random encounters.
-
so i'm waiting at the train station and the train did not show at the specified time
are the trains working at the minute?
how exactly do they appear? do i have to leave the area and then come back 5 minutes before the time?
or does the train just spontaneously spawn in-position if i am spawned in the area?
-
and now the conductor at boneyard is telling me the train is here waiting when i can#t see it anywhere and that they train's next stop is boneyard
but i am already at boneyard....
-
The trains are screwy man, I use the wiki page for train times the conductor must be on jet!
-
It's so easy to remember.
Trains leave SF every 6 hours, starting 0:00.
Trains leave VC every 6 hours, starting 3:00.
Add 1 hour for every next station.

thanks for the help so far
another question
11) i met a bunch of players guarding an area in gecko - they just blew my head-off for no reason
how can they do that? isn't gecko a guarded town?
-
Not at all.
-
ok thanks - i se its not a guarded town from the wiki
12) i just went to junktown and got my head blown-off by the guards. I was running past and one of them said something like 'i'm sorry the gates are closed for the night...' - and then they started firing. I was not carrying a weapon in my hand
I'm sure they never used to do this - but - seriously - i'm getting annoyed at how the developers' only way to control access to areas is by having trigger happy guards and no warning
so my question is - when did the behaviour of junktown gate guards change? and was it REALLY a necessary change?
too many way to die to npc's in this game for no real reason - it diminishes fun
edit: has this got something to do with waht faction i am in? since my last visit to junktown i have joined vault city faction - so are they more restrictive to my movements now? my standing to junktown is +50
-
As the guards told you, Junktown is closed at night. So even if u enter without gun, u get shot.
Try it at daytime.

yes - but since when? and i saw pple running in and out unimpeded - are you sure the rule is universal?

Only if yur part of a faction does night time apply.
this includes player made ones.

so you're saying that since i am part of vault city faction - my access to many areas is now nerfed/limited to daylight hours regardless of my reputation?
why is it so? it doesn't make any sense

only in junktown.....

ok thanks for the answer
13) i recently got blown-up by some mutants from "Remnants of the Masters Army".
As I have said I am in the vault city faction - but I'm not sure to which faction the mutants from "Remnants of the Masters Army" belong to. Previous to joining vault city - these mutants did not attack me.
Here are my lowest faction reputations:
The unity: -605
Radiers: -1455
Broekn Hill Humans -200
Broekn Hills Mutants: -200
Followers of the Apocalypse: -200
Bishop Family: -455
anyone help?
-
I think they're part of the Unity.
Once you rep is -300 or higher they won't attack you anymore.
My doc alt encountered them yesterday and they didn't attack.

Alot of these questions can be answered on the forums or the wiki.
Use ze search bar.

14) i recently got my first buggy - wohooo
i know that i shouldn't take it to town because the chances are it will get stolen ...
... so i leave at a few squares away from the town and walk the rest
but my question is: how long can i leave it there before it disappears or becomes visible to other players? Actually, does it ever become visible to other players?
thnx in advance
-
15) great i just lost my buggy in an encounter with npcs
i took it a few squares away from broken hills and intended to park it there
when i exited the world map me and my buggy was surrounded by some raiders/thugs
i died trying to run off the map to get away
Immediately after the circle for my buggy disappeared - it is lost :(
Should I have just tried to get back in my buggy again quick? Does that work? Or is running away the only option?
Why can't I see my marker for my buggy on the world map anymore?
-
If you park the car on worldmap, it can only be encountered by players while you are inside the car map too.
So hurry if you fuel up/repair or taking something out of car trunk inside a map.
If you have left the car by exit grid and there is an orange circle on worlmap, noone can just encounter that car there, until you enter the car map again.
If u drive with a car always travel in RT. When u encounter NPCS in RT you will spawn next to car and can exit the map just by clickin the car.
That can be done in a second, and i never got killed so far when i encountered NPCS in RT.
What u NEVER should do is running to exit grid, or even worse is travel with car in TB mode. In TB mode you cannot exit the encounter by clicking
the car but only by walking to the exit grid, which can be deadly like in your case. So remember, travel RT and when u enc something click on car fast.
Many people i know do some kind of "garage" tents too near their favourite city, to park inside this tent and be able to fuel up, repair and stuff in a secure place.
-
so my car will not become visible to anyone no matter how long i leave it in the wilderness?
-
I never tested how long a car can be parked at worldmap, but i guess a pretty long time.
My longest parking time on wordmap so far is around 24 hours, car did not disappear of course.
-
I have once found lonely buggy on world map without its owner anywhere around.
-
2 ways this could be happened i think. First is, the owner ran out of map just when u spawned in the cars enc.
Another way you can enc a car is without its owner is when the car owner had a forced enc with critters,
Raiders for example. Even if the owner kills all raiders in map and leaves then via exit grid, the car spot itself
will still be a raider enc and encounterable by players. So dont park cars in random encounters, even if u killed all npcs there.
