Title: How to get Verti - true story
Post by: xsarq on March 21, 2013, 08:01:33 pm: It was in Navarro all this time. I had it for like 5 seconds but since this story is awesome let me tell it whole.

I`m doing a Quest-Merchant Build. My goal is to do as many quest as possible. I allready done most of them. I decided to join raiders. Since my Slaver Guild reputation was low i searched for way to improve it. One of such ways was to join Enclave then leave it.

So i did join Enclave and then i started exploring the base. On the landing was brand nowe Vertibird. For same strange reasons i used an hand option on it. I`ve got message that this vehicle is out of fuel.

DING!

I went back to my tent grabbed 100 small energy cells and 100 micro ones. Then i fueled the Vertibird...and then i flied! I went back to my tent with the Verti. Then i done a screenshot and posted it on IRC.

Deves were as quick as an thunder.
Jovanka came and asked me how did i get it. Well i`ll told her.
Then she gave me cookies.

True story.

It was not an exploit. You just went to Navarro and noticed there's a flyable vertbird. It's whoever left it there fault.

GM look cool, but you cannot judge a book by its cover. It's like Pandas, they are cute, but not all pandas are good pandas.

It's irrelevant whose fault it is. It was a bug, the vertibird was never meant to be in the hands of any
player, which you can even read on wiki. Although you don't really have to read wiki to realize that,
you just need some common sense. Possible consequence could be stealing a truckload of items
from event locations on the islands.

Kudos to xsarq, not for reporting (he didn't really have time to do it) but for ability to grasp simple
things. It's funny how the "victim" of terrible GMs stays cool while some dudes not directly involved
try so hard to antagonize him with staff and blow the whole thing out of proportions.

Then I guess I don't have common sense.... it's not like it's armed or anything, effectively it's no diffrent from a car. If it's not supposed to be avaialbe, then of, it's not, hand it over and all that, but seeing as a vertibird ride to the oil rig WAS embedded (never competed) in FO2, it seems to me you'd WANT to pursue that option.

But I must say I am impressed. The guy didn't cry, bitch or whine, he got a few minutes of fun
from a bug and when it was over, he took what had to be done like a man not a 5 year old child.

If the system has a glitch or some weird coding that made a verti spawn then he got it legitimately from the game, He did not abuze(like jovanka).

I was first men ever to hijack an Vertibird from center of an enemy base. Offcourse that i`m famous.

sorry to disappoint ya but people stole this vertibird years ago. then, ofc, izual removed it when he found it, but it took him a bit longer. i was kinda surprised that this "bug" happened again

these islands on the ocean are empty i once got tped there as punishment but devs forgot about predators

getting banned for finding something? yeah, would be possible in this game.

i wish jovanka find case full of money/diamond or even worse, happiness irl and then somebody take it away with force and tell her she's not supposed to have it.

This is a focking beta(no discussion about being it always beta or not).
And if player finds bug, he should report it, and then DEV should fix it.
If it was GM nature bug, then he should get a warning or something (like to not drink before doing event). For finding a bug, only respect should be given, not some rewards, and cookie is a kind of "respect" reward (for me, and for you, should be, or you missed the point of beta).
From what I know, GM's job wasn't rewarding players for such things, BUT if They want to reward all players for finding bugs and such, it should be more viable way, like collecting "respect" points, and you can exchange them for something that isn't abusive in any way (exp points,addict antidote,car), then it would be ok.
Shame on you, players acting like angry german kids (no offense to Germany though).

If this is bug, then they could just remove the vertibird from the game entirely, to where whether or not things are resetted it would not show up. But this is not so.

Not to mention, this game is very competitive, as well, things have great value to players, especially rare things, despite the possibility they will be lost eventually. Whether it's in PVP, item hoarding, rare item collecting, etc. It's all a competition to somebody.

No harm would have been done just letting this guy keep the vertibird. It's not as if he can fly over ncr and drop crates of dynamite onto the player-base.

Shame on you, for not standing up for yourself when you were clearly getting screwed over. But whatever, enjoy the cookie.

i thought that bug is a situation that shouldnt happen, and is caused by garbage code. but hey what can i know about programming i am programming since few years.

It wasn't spawn by a GM, it has spawned because of a bug which was triggered by a certain GM action - kinda accidental unfix of a fix, so combination of both factors. why am I even explaining this? Vertibird isn't supposed to be ingame, period (atleast not yet).

problem is, you haven't explained anything. just made everything more ambiguous. what GM action? what bug?

you're right. you shouldn't explain anything. just give a man a cookie. it's like i'm going to you (or another GM) with a brand new porsche and i trade it in for a potato.

Also its not like he took 1000 of vertis, that one copter wouldnt change anything in game except making one player happy of it.

reason (GMs deleted it manually after every wipe which, ironically, helped it stay that way).
It's finally fixed on the next update in the map file, so the vertibird will never appear again.

xsarq was lucky enough to come to Navarro after someone regenerated the location but forgot
to delete the vertibird. So he filled it with cells and flew away. He didn't report it. He posted
a screenshot in #2238 channel, which is why it was found out so quickly by staff. He got a few
exciting minutes and an interesting story, he can have his cells back if he contacts me. There
is nothing more to it. The vertibird was not supposed to be there, or in hands of any player.

In my opinion it's enough, if it was some petty item not worth much it wouldn't be a big deal
to let him keep it, but it's not the case. He had his 5 minutes of fun in vertibird that wasn't
supposed to happen, I really see nothing to compensate, except the cells.

About the islands.

At least for now, the islands sometimes have temporary locations for events or testing which
aren't supposed to be freely visited by players. It depends on a location, but oten it's not possible
to hide them because they are public, so everyone will see them as soon as they get close.
Once we add sea travel, something will have to be done about it, but for now it is what it is.
So no player can have a free access to the ocean in the moment.

If i woud need more cells i woud just...craft them - seriously cookies are unique and in fact they are worth something as an unique items so stop hating them.

#2 This is free game, free mod. While its still something really awesome, stop expecting some sorts of refunds or rewards from Developers, seriously they dont own you anything.

Reporting an exploit doesn't give you right to exploit it over and over again afterwards without being punished.

Guess it's time to stop beta-testing then.

Players and devs do best by working together, and logistically speaking the players themselves have done a fair amount of work on this project. Devs have too. So whilst the the devs don't owe the players anything, the players as a whole don't owe anything to the developers either. Both have pulled their loads, some individuals more than others, mostly true for the playerbase0 with maybe 75% contributing literally 0, but nonetheless.
