Title: FOnline Encounter Finder (FEF)
Post by: Opera on May 09, 2010, 07:04:34 pm
What is the point of this?
You can find the encounter you want fast and easily. Have fun.

Features
- No registering needed for basic usage
- Encounter editing is limited for some people only, less false info
- Powerful filtering (show only the ones you want)

How to use?
- Use right mouse button to move. Just like in the game itself.
- Use the filter to show only the encounters you want.
- Double click on grid to edit encounters on that grid. (You need a need a account with special permission to actually edit!)

Guide for helpers
In the new FEF the idea of adding encounters is little bit different. Basic idea is:
- Travel around the world map in 2238.
- You encounter: Raiders, Brahmins and Ants at zone 21:14.
- You select the zone 21:14 in FEF and you select always the ones you just encountered. In this case Raiders, Brahmins and Ants.
- Next you encounter Brahmins and Hunting Party in the same zone.
- You select the zone 21:14 again and select Brahmins and Hunting Party.

FEF counts times you added something in a zone. For example in zone 21:14 encounters has been added 2 times. And chance-to-encounter is calculated then:
- Brahmins (2/2) = 100%
- Raiders (1/2) = 50%
- Ants (1/2) = 50%
- Hunting Party (1/2) = 50%

I think you get the point. What more you add correct info the better is the CTE accuracy.

Try it
http://www.nitue.net/#fef/index

What else?
Please, tell me if you find bugs or anything else. :)

------------------

Changelog
2.0.0
- Just one account needed for everything (FCP, FEF...)
- Experimental CTE (Chance-to-encounter) implemented
- Improved filter
- Zoom (doesn't seem to work correctly on every browser, working on it)
- Coloured zones to tell CTE accuracy
- "Data map" for people filling up the map (shows where we are low on data and where is just enough already)

I'd suggest to add scroll bar (spaming arrows keys is damn slow). Also maybe use icons/colors for some well known creatures/encounters. Anyway great job!
Title: Re: FOnline Encounter Finder (FEF)
Post by: Opera on May 09, 2010, 08:19:35 pm
Scrollbar might be included. Currently it cannot be done, because of the way encounters are shown. This is also the reason for ultra low performance.

There will be better version later (when I get this better version working).

this utility to be finished would take ages IMHO, only dev himself can make it quick (cause he has the data on where what spawns and when). but i think they have other things to do right now for sure. other problem is, maybe after you indeed finish the utility, what if wipe happens? new monsters with locations where before you seen something else?

well, i do like this FEF thing, pretty useful, but still... not easy.

and why i said it would take ages, because you probably cant have all correct by walking on that one square for hour? (and for sure you couldnt be arsed to do that for every square).
but good luck

Well, encounters haven't change after two last wipes, except the new critters.

Yeah, it takes time. There is currently about 5 guys adding encounters. What more guys there is adding these, that faster it will be. You will get pretty many encounters just by doing normal hunt and writing down where this and this can be encountered. But I know it will never be 100% complete or accurate.

Yes, I will wipe this sometimes like I wrote in the first post. Only if it starts to look too inaccurate.

And btw:
I would love to have more people adding encounters. Only thing I need is your IP-address (yeah, there will be problems if dynamic ip). Doesn't matter are you active or inactive.

This... is awesome.

I can give you all the locations for my precious brahmins too. I really could help if you need me, too. I map out stuff like this sometimes, like what I did for my Brahmin Locations on World Map thread.

And I have a bunch of other locations (deathclaws, spore plants, slavers, SF caravans, etc) that I would like to put on it too.

An unimportant suggestion I have is to have HP values attached to the encounters, though this isn't needed for most encounters, since some always have the same amount, and now I think there is even less variety in HP since wipe.

And another suggestion is to keep ants, rats, scorps, all in "Other" encounters, but take brahmins and put it in it's own category since they are good and give hides like Geckos.

Just don't add Special Encounters to this list, I think those shouldn't be available to everyone, just friends if they want to share it with each other.

They appear totally random on the worldmap anyway.

it only shows text "System: Removed Filter"
Title: Re: FOnline Encounter Finder (FEF)
Post by: Opera on May 16, 2010, 11:56:53 am
It works.

There are 2 filter buttons. First one is for the critter based. Second one is for the type based.

So, if you select NCR Caravan and press the "Filter" button of type based, it says that (because it checks what type you have selected and you probably have "Show All").

I have a problem about the Filter options:

So, the first Filter shows the names of all encounters. Then, the second encounter shows different types of enemies, and it doesn't have the variety that the first Filter has.

My problem happens in scenarios like this:
I do the first "Show only..." box as 'Elronologists'.
I do the second box as 'Brahmins'.

When I do this, it only shows Brahmins - None of the Elronologist encounters.

And in this scenario:
I do the first box as 'Elronologists'.
I do the second box as '*ALL*'.

It then shows all encounters of every type.

What I'm trying to get at is: There is really no way to make it show ONLY the encounters listed in the first box. It only works correctly in the second box, which doesn't have as many encounters to choose from - only broad types of encounter such as "Humans".

I've tried many combinations, same result. If the second box has anything in it (which it always does - there is no way to say "N/A") then whatever is in the first box does not matter.

Edit: Also, I am using Firefox 3.6.3, if that matters.

There are 2 filter buttons. First one is for the critter based and the second one is for the type based. They are two different functions and has nothing to do with each other.
I made a picture to help understanding this:
http://img265.imageshack.us/img265/4752/helpim.jpg

Oooooh, I see what I did wrong now. I kept pressing the second Filter button. It works fine after testing it again.  ;D :-[

There are 2 filter buttons. First one is for the critter based and the second one is for the type based. They are two different functions and has nothing to do with each other.

If you want to see all Elronologists, simply select Elronologists and press the Filter button (the first filter button, right below the first selectbox).

I made a picture to help understanding this:
http://img265.imageshack.us/img265/4752/helpim.jpg

I probably have to edit the filtering system a bit. I have received some reports about this before too.

EDIT: I also added "Hermit" and "Wolves" to the list.

thats a lie, caravans in this game are found in specific places they do no move from block to block.
Title: Re: FOnline Encounter Finder (FEF)
Post by: Haraldx on June 05, 2010, 07:59:32 pm
Well ofcourse, you can't encounter a NCR caravan, shoot 2 guys, then run 2 blocks and encounter them again, just now without those 2 guys you killed. I have experience that I was just running around somewhere more to the north of Navarro and found guess what? A new reno caravan... Later by going more to the Klamath side, I encountered a San Fran caravan, Even if Klamath was about 3/4 blocks away. I guess it's just VERY random, that's why they are called random encounters.
Title: Re: FOnline Encounter Finder (FEF)
Post by: Ganado on June 06, 2010, 12:03:24 am
You can't go into any encounter, shoot to guys, go to world map, and go back in because of
(1.) Caravan cooldowns
(2.) That encounter is deleted unless there was another player on the encounter when you.

And Michael is right, every tile has its own encounters, and they don't move unless a developer changes where you can find said location in an update.

I have noticed a performance drop on Mozilla Firefox, if you update it to 3.6.6 version. It looks like that Firefox's javascript performance has dropped a lot. I'm sorry, but I cannot do anything to make it better. It is up to Mozilla devs to fix that.

Google Chrome runs this (and also FCP) much faster.

e. Firefox 4.0 Beta has no problems.

No need for IP-addresses anymore. I created account system:

It doesn't work both with Mozilla-Firefox-2.0.0.20 on Windows XP and with Mozilla-Firefox-2.0.0.19 on Gentoo (kernel 2.6.20). The thing which makes it working unproperly is that the table describing each square on the map doesn't appear. I have noticed that it only works if the Firefox version is 3*. Is it possible to make it working properly to Firefox 2* users?

It might be possible, but it might need very much time (even totally rewritten code). So I must say that I'm not going to do this now.

Well, it is half joke, half not. :)

Town locations are marked as "Guarded" or "Not Guarded". It is just made to show some additional info for new players for an example.

Encouter : Centipede , that's critter , i was meet it 2 points under meriposa in Cave.. They have 39 hp ... Update it.. :)

If the encounter was inside the cave, and not outside the cave, it doesn't qualify as an encounter.

Yey. I got some good suggestions from FEF users how to improve this and so I updated FEF a bit:
- Better filtering results
- Ability to add multiple encounters at the same time
- Account owners can see his/her stats

I hope you like it
http://www.nitue.net/fef/

I got lot of FEF account requests that include the wanted password for the account. I have not made account for these.

e. First sentence was bit unclear.

does this program work with the new worldmap? I've been testing it out and it doesn't seem to accurate anymore :( WE really need to find some more brahmin spawns...

Looks like it is not accurate anymore. Must save this one and start over.

e. FEF is now wiped.

To players adding encounters:
Note that if you encounter another player, the tile you were on when the encounter happened might not accurately show which tile the critters can be found on, since you can find the same player on multiple tiles.

1. Small bug for adders. When you put 2 or more encounters into zone, and press "Add more" again, all encounters but the first will turn into *NONE*

2. Suggestion, adders should be able to choose multiple tiles to add multiple encounters at the same time. (Might need to alter the code a bit, dunno.) Like, you tag 4 tiles, and add brahmins to every tile.

Sorry guys, but I get VERY much these account requests and I might accidentally miss some of them.

I also really cannot go through these huge lists, because I got other things to do too.

Can you add Average Peasant encounter? I don't see it on the list.

Average Peasant is farmers, hommeles for example. You`ll find them on the north-west, on the top of the map.

Unless the actual name of the encounter on the World Map is "Average Peasant(s)", then it doesn't count.

Why you add these encounters in this post?
You just could register to FEF and add encounters to FEF itself, not this topic.

The server might have some temporary issues sometimes. However, it is working just fine now. If you still can't connect, it is most likely a problem on your side. See if nitue.net is blocked by something.

FEF and FCP doesn't use Java or Flash.

I have a suggestion for this awesome tool. Next to encounter's name add something like a "population: "value". Because you can see that brahmins are next to Modoc and NCR for example, but there is a huge difference in finding them in these places. Every second encounter next to Modoc contains brahmins but that's not the case with NCR.

The encounter "salvager" needs to be added. They can, for example, be found in sector 36:13.

Done!

It's not only that. "Scavengers" are "Salvagers" now, even their location changed.

Also Adytum is New Adytum now.

Nothing is new:

* Scavengers = Salvagers
* Remnants of the Master's Army = Super Mutant Remnants

Same exact World-map coordinates for each. If this FEF tool could just change the name of the encounter it would be better, than having to add Salvagers and the Remnants again.

I think raiders and khan raiders should be separated somehow, since their battle strength differs greatly, it would be nice to find on which raiders you can jump up :>

Would it be possible to enable filtering via URL? Example:

Code: [Select]
http://www.nitue.net/fef/index.php?show=Brahmins

Yeah, I think so. But currently I'm working with one other project so it will take a while.

Updated this old tool.

2.0.0
- Just one account needed for everything (FCP, FEF...)
- Experimental CTE (Chance-to-encounter) implemented
- Improved filter
- Zoom (doesn't seem to work correctly on every browser, working on it)
- Coloured zones to tell CTE accuracy
- "Data map" for people filling up the map (shows where we are low on data and where is just enough already)

If you are interested in helping. Make an account and read the "Guide for helpers" from the first post. Then contact me.

e. And no, it is not wiped ~1500 encs are still there. :)

Did you know;
Junkyard has moved to above San Francisco 8.22
Cathedral where Junkyard was 12.32
Tobacco Farm 26.43
Hinkley 30.39

AFAIK Fort Seth no longer exists.

Don't know of any more yet.

Didn't know that. Going to fix it later.

e. Small update:
- Added black borders for some texts to make them easier to read
- Zooming should work now.

e2. Another small update:
- FEF will now remember your location when you get back to map
- After adding encounter, it will stay on the editing page
- Clicking a square will open up a menu with two options: "Edit zone" and "What's here?".
* "Edit zone" takes you to the editing page
* "What's here?" fetches the data for this zone only
- Zooming has only 50% and 100% now

I just thought about something: there could be a tab with the stuff you can get expect to see on each type of encounters (and probability for each weapon to appear in that encounter).

My FEF  doesn't display all the encounters (in the filter box), it cuts of @ Brotherhood initiate. Is there a way to scroll down the list of encounters. For example i want to see where molerats & mutated molerats are located but can't.

Currently the only way to scroll it is to move your mouse over the list and use your mouse wheel.

Hey Opera, so I want to help complete the FEF by helping with the encounters. It says on there to contact you via IRC, after trying to figure out how the heck I do that (I don't use irc) I decided letting you know here may be a bit easier. So just let me know either way if it's not too much trouble.

Thanks

Just read this "Guide for helpers" from the first post (http://fodev.net/forum/index.php/topic,4463.0.html) and create an account on Nituenet from here (http://www.nitue.net/#nitue_user/index). Then tell me the account name and I will grant you the access to edit encounter data. Also, ask if there's anything unclear in the short "guide".

Ah cool, guide read and seems clear to me. I already have an account on there. Username is "SmilingHobo".

EDIT: Oh actually I do have a question. For the empty encounters such as "80s" or "Brotherhood Initiate Patrol", should I mark them anyways, or just ignore them for now?

Just add them. At least Brotherhood Initiate Patrol wasn't empty last time I checked. 80s probably doesn't even exist on FEF.

EDIT: You can now edit the data.

Ah cool thanks. And I encountered initiates like 10 times yesterday and never saw them. Apparently they were removed, something about it being too easy to steal their stuff or something like that haha.

Oh also, i've noticed you have different kinds of raiders (weak, khan, metal armor) I suppose metal armor is kinda obvious, but whats the difference between weak and khan?

Yes, they were removed for this very reason.

Weak Raiders: Leather jacket, mauser, spears
Metal Raiders: Metal Armor
Khan Raiders: leather armor, leather jacket, FN FAL, Greese Gun, 14mm pistol, Khan banners on the rocks in the encounter

Small change to the grid coloring:
- When fetching data using the filter, grid color is based on the average chance to encounter selected critters, now you can quickly see where is a high chance to encounter what you want
- When fetching data for a single grid or watching the "data map", grid color is based on the chance-to-encounter accuracy (so no changes here)

EDIT:
Again some small changes to the coloring. The color scale is now bit better. You can switch the grid color meaning when using filter. Also critter names are now colored based on their encountering chance when examining grids.
