Title: Mining/gathering through "item detection"

Would it be possible to attach some script to mine-able rocks, fiber plants...? You know, objects you can get resources from but only if you use an item on them. I am talking about a script that would work this way:

1. Player uses the (currently useless) "Hand" icon on the rock/plant/whatever.
2. Character's inventory is checked, and if the Character has a certain item (hammer, knife, combat knife...), the resource will be added to the inventory.

This way, we would be able to mine by just clicking the rocks, get fibers by just clicking the plants, etc., as long as we have the necessary tool on us. The result would be a more confortable way of getting resources by lowering the amount of clicks needed to get one piece of the resource in question.

I am sorry I explained such a simple idea in a relatively complicated way, I just don't know jack about scripting.

Yeah something like this is a great idea.  If it's not possible at least fix it so knives can be used on trees I hate having to click-hold, scroll, click, over and over.

As long as you have hammer in hand, animation is played and APs reduced I don't see why not.

Half the point is that when mining you are vulnerable, because instead of your weapon you have a sledgehammer, and must switch them out before you can appropriately defend yourself and thus if you expect to properly protect yourself, have someone watch your back, have slaves do it, etc.

Now if you had sledgehammer in main hand and simply clicks rock like normal to get rocks, that is good, reduce clicks by 1/2 either way.

I think that's gonna have to be the middle ground is having it in main hand but it not requiring the additional click every time.

APs should obviously be reduced as it already happens. And speaking of animations, would it be possible to add one for gathering fibers? :P

Maybe the best would be to add a "Use on" mode to all these items, and make it possible to use A button for that.

Not all gathering is unprotected and clicking accurately 80 times just to gather fibres tires my hand.

All tools should have "Use on" mode.

And yes, if "Use on" mode could be activated in the similar manner as attack modes are used by A key.

This has been pretty much implemented in the last changelog (2/04/2013) with the "Smart Cursor" feature, so this thread can be locked, moved, whatever.
