Title: The End
Post by: AHS-9 on June 06, 2013, 07:09:59 pm
The Server

On Sunday, June 23rd 2013, the FOnline: 2238 server will be shut down. The details are trivial and pointless, the reasons, as always, purely human ones. The interest in the current state of the game is steadily declining, while, at the same time, expectations about further development of the project can't be matched. With a decimated player base and, in turn, low number of donations we can't afford us any further server lease.

For you, the players, this means that there are over two weeks to play and discuss FOnline: 2238 on the current forum. This moment occurs important to many of us and we would like to use this opportunity to invite all the people who have been sharing so many memories from the last four years to login on June 23rd (evening time CET) for a big shutdown party. We definitely would love to have as many people as possible during these very moments and, of course, during the last days of 2238.

We would like to thank the players who supported us with their suggestions, bug reports, patches and content. Special thanks to all wiki editors, moderators and game masters. Last but not least, we would like to thank all our donors, who helped us to keep the 2238 server running for so long! Without you, the last 4 years wouldn't have been the same.

However, this is not the end, merely a new beginning for us - and we hope for some of you as well.

The Forum

The current 2238 forum will be transformed into a "FOnline developer zone" - a community dedicated to game development using the FOnline engine, a place where you can discuss developing games, ask questions about the engine, publish and share your work with others, announce new FOnline projects and maybe even have a whole board for your own project. As an inevitable result of this change, all 2238 game related boards will be closed with everything regarding the "SDK" and "3D Development" expanded. If you have any ideas and suggestions, feel free to share them with all of us.

Currently there is no decision whether the FOnline: 2238 sources will be released or not.

That's all folks, have fun in the last days of 2238!

I'm sorry to hear that - the game has been dead for almost a year now, but still - good times were had. Kudos to Rusty, Atom, Scypior, Solar and the rest of the guys who made this server awesome back in 2009-2011. Nevertheless, I'm extremely curious about the future plans of some of your current developers, particularly Jovanka and Samira. Nothing personal, I just want to stay the fuck away from their future projects.

If just money are problems there is still chance to do something.. I cant say i can do something.. fuck.. but community still may save it.. We will see what will happen next days.. Hope something lucky will happen..

Just bring back old gold era... bring back old times. Donators may wake up again..

Wow, this is quite big. There is a whole community that have been created around the game and now it is like someone is nuclear bombing whole country. I know, I am exaggerating a bit, but really, this is big news.
But I would really not see it as bad news as it might look like. There are two options that might happen. Either you will release the sources and someone else grabs it and starts another server with another ideas (maybe better, maybe not) or you will not release it and in that case, I guess, that some of the active and enthusiastic developers like Mayck or JovankaB will continue to "play" with it and maybe they will start another server sooner or later. ;)

Anyway, I would like to thank you for great time playing your game and I wish you all luck in your next hobbies and lives. ;)

Unless developers want to execute 2238, i cant see reason why it should be permanently turned off(even if no more updates will happen, even if not enough money for running server are available right now...)

I have spoke with 1 guy who would like to join developers team and improve this game just yesterday, and i bet there are more than 1 guy with good enough skills.... Why havent you created thread to announce need of new developers? Why havent you announce need of money?

In my mind it looks like you RLY want server down??! Please explain us why it should be turned off, becouse all players around are still interested in this game.

MUHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH, I think victory is finally mine.

Yes this is me, runboy93. You really think you can get away from me like this...? Don't even think about it, this AIN'T OVER YET FOR YOU!

And yes everyone, I played this final season with these accounts. Everyone can think was I evil or not...
- Doc Stem, Doc Vein, Stem Gun, Stampede, DeathRay, DeathBG, LiveHtH, Mr. Bruiser...
And almost every character that had on their name "Stem" or "Death" ^^

This is my final spam and final contact with everyone at 2238, don't think I will go that trashplace TLA MKII.
I would prefer doing nothing on PC than playing that shitpile, which took all players from 2238.

Anyway, it was honor to play real "Fallout online" for many years since 2010 january
(Yeah it was on my birthday when I started play and chat at forums)

Now I can finally be free from chains! NO MORE THIS FUCKING LIARS GAME!

Wow... so much for my comeback.. Just when I could spare some time to play again – this.

I am sad.
I am angry.

Played it for about a year and I was enjoying it most the time and met some cool people. Thanking all devs for what they have accomplished.
Maybe some of the later changes and decisions made weren't the best and maybe TLAmk2 couldn't have chosen a worse time to be released (or better for TLA itself), but I may believe what killed this server weren't the devs, who are just human like we are, but

I myself tried here and there and put a lot of thought into this game. But I also realized, that somehow this construct of a shut-in dev team that constantly has to fend off the hate and can't get its shit together would in the end lead to exacly this situation we have now.
My regrets are that I didn't do more for this awesome project. There will be nothing like it for me, TLA just doesn't feel right. :'(

I really hope all those great people who had ideas and contributed in some way will somehow get together and form a new team. Release of the 2238 source would be a wonderful help to relaunch 2238 or even create a new wasteland.
I'm not sure yet how much information I should release, but I was thinking and planning on an own server for a while now.
Some work is already done, but a bigger shitload of work still needs to be done.
It really depends on how my life will turn in the next months whether I will keep working on it, also how much time noizecode, with whom I'm working together on this, has got, but the end of 2238 can be seen as a chance for a fresh start.
And the end of 2238 now really makes me want to do the new server!
If we decide to make that project happen, we will definetly need help. And I hope to find that help here.

Goodbye 2238.

Alright guys, I know that I have been a hate train lately, but I wanted to come on and say *sniff* that this is one of the best games I have every had the pleasure of playing.

Thanks To the Devs, The Gms, The Modelers, and The Forum Mods

Thanks To The PKs, The Bombers, The Idlers, and The PvPers

Thanks To The Sinners, The Winners, The Whiners, and The Thieves

All of you, every last one, thank you. Collectively you made a community that felt and played like a real wasteland. I hope that whatever you guys do next, it is a wonderful as this. I know this is just a game, but I want you guys to know you really touched people in a meaningful way. No matter what server or game I play from now on, I will remember 2238.

In my time in 2238, I met and had the pleasure of both typing and talking to people from all over the world. I have never played a game where the intrigue and paranoia of real world conversations bleed through into a game. I doubt this was intended, but it made the experience all the more rich and deep.

So fair winds and good tidings to you all, I hope whatever your next venture into the wastes is, it is wondrous and safe.

anyway, thanks for all the fun and not so fun times! you did the right and mature thing to shut down the server.

and last but not least i'd like to thank the trolls and the community in general. it's what made this game fun and different from other online games.

You gave me the chance of playing my favourite game again, with new features and accompanied, for that I wish you the best, Devs and community, things were wrong this season, but i always had the hope that you would wipe and all would improve. Bad news... good luck.
Id like to join any other server (but tla), ill be looking for something cool in the forum

P.S. To all those people who masturbated thinking about Tla and trolled us here saying shit. Gtfo, I wish your computer screen explode in your face and kill you all while reading this. All the issues this game had, could be summarized in bad dev-player communication. The rest of the game was fucking great.

THANK YOU JOVANKAB. you can now shovel shit in peace :) and dig graves too ! :) :) :)

stop these lies. you dont care about players. that was stated many times.

made my day. you never cared about player suggestions, bugs that they reported and other stuff.

the only true sentence. how nice of you.

whaat.... WE CAN? WE CAN HAVE FUN? OH THANK YOU WE CAN FINALLY HAVE FUN IN GAME AFTER 4 YEARS AND WHEN ITS ONLINE LAST DAYS. i cant handle my happiness.

That is exactly what I mean. Who wants to make a game for such players..
Well, even that will now come to an end.
Good riddance

It's funny, considering how often we changed certain game mechanics based on player suggestions and that our closed bugs board has nearly 1800 closed threads + the stuff in trac and all that. But hey, let's ignore facts, who cares. :>

I have a small question - is it due to financial reasons or personal?
If it was only about finance - would be needed to make the game work such as the end of the year?
If not money, so in that case, thank you for everything, it was lovely four years.

Sincerely Doctor Life, Ivanhoe and many other characters that have already been forgotten after wipe ...

It's a shame to see you guys go. I haven't posted here or played 2238 for over a year. And I have to admit that I play TLA now because I think it simply has more content. But when I did play 2238 I had a great time.
What made 2238 good is that it was unique, you guys didnt want to copy TLA, you guys wanted something of your own. I applaud you guys for that, because you guys did one hell of a fine job for quite some time.

Yet things come and go. And now it's time for 2238 to move on.

It was a fun ride, I wish the devs and the playerbase the best of luck.

GEE what do you think you caused the declining playerbase? Perhaps it was the abusive mods or the terrible content. WHY DOESN'T ANYONE WANT TO ROLE PLAY IN NCR AT THE YEAR 2238. Take this point in life, if everyone else in the room says something stinks and you cant smell it... its probably you. Learn to listen to the players when they ask for something. Learn to admit you are wrong. You wanted to be lazy devs, well enjoy your time off indefinitely. I would say that this is sad to see, but the game deserved better than what you were willing to put into it. Your twisted perspectives and ideologies about the game is what caused it to die. Find solace in that.

I've been playing 2238 only for a year now, and it is without doubt the best and most diverse game I've ever seen. Fallout 1&2 have always been a part of my gaming-life while growing up, but you guys did what my buddies and I had always talked of, but never had the skill to actually do.

There was nothing more satisfying but to open up a cold can of beer, log in and shoot an innocent child in the face from across the map just to check if the 6% conditioned rifle is still worth the trouble (and it is).

I'll truly miss playin' this while listening to some country twang in the background :(     ... why, oh why?! щ(ಥДಥщ)    ┻━┻︵ \(°□°)/ ︵ ┻━┻

It's sad to see some project like this dying. Time to bring in some obituary on 2238:

I remember...

...i remember crawling around on FalloutNow-Forums to see, that OBT2 is up and running, to join in...
...to meet people who killed, people who chilled and people who helped...
...buying first cave, trying first TC...
...BROs and such...
...XEONs Cow :)...
...LAW, HAWKS, TTTLA (WWP), VSB, C88, BBS (in that order)...
...Izual, Voland, Nexxos, Jovanka, Surf...
...great events, Rocket Ball, Sparta and NCR Army...
...big alliances, heavy PVP for TC, nice battles and some drama...
...meeting players who remain good friends until now...
...giving a piece of my soul into this.

And...some (subjective but) chronologic video i once made for my very own faction, The Guardians, which actually begins with pics from the even older faction "Far Go Traders": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bRI3FPUYQRY

PS: nice comic avv, it somehow captures the entire mood

I had a great time on this server, and although I didn't play much this session and not so much the one before, I am sad to see the end of that adventure. Thanks to the developers for this game, to my enemies for the fun they offered us in those tense fight that were 2238's mark, and of course to all our allies supporters of the Law for their help and the fun we had together. It seems this is the final wipe, the greatest of all that will end it all... TTTLA for Great Justice !

Everything has its end. So does the 2238 server.
But I hope that one day it will ascend above the ashes of the world of 2238 we once knew and become a 2238 mk2 server, with real blackjack and hookers.
BTW It's a weird feeling that we will never play this game again, compared to all those that you can download or buy in a shop, and they will be always available, even in 15 years.

Thank you.

I had many good times on 2238 with friends and enemies alike and am saddened to see it go even though i haven't played in almost a year. It's like a small part of my past is dying.... good luck to everyone involved on their future endeavors.

Title: Re: The End
Post by: vjekof on June 06, 2013, 11:00:06 pm
well this is a sad ending, but i have a suggestion, i played F1, F2, F-tactics, F3, F-New Vegas, FO-2238, FO-TLA MK2, i tried FO-Desert Europe, all of them have something interesting  but nobody think about MERGING FO-games in ONE big game, every team works on its own part of the world but ideas about game engine and graphic and items should be together.

best in 2238 are idea of tent, base, mines with visible ore craftable crates, tents and so on.... in FODE is multi-level map system and workbench system and maybe crafting, new weapons, new graphics .... in TLA crafting is hard and little complicating, bases (tents) are small BUT shortcuts for items, crafting items, weapons are good.......so ALL those games should unite in one GREAT GAME and wiki build in BIG WIKI.

Well, somewhere deep inside me I remember something from the forum as one wise man, whose name I cannot recall anymore, said something along the lines of "When people will finally kill 2238 they will come back and cry". Well, to be honest, if the developers have made such a move, then so it shall be. I'd like to wish everyone from the developer team, the GMs and everyone else who directly or indirectly contributed towards the creation of 2238, may you all find further success, whether it be another game project or anything else. Thank you, 2238.

It was a lot of fun, I met awesome people and we did awesome things like WWP or Caravans or all this TC battles we fought with our challenging opponents, all this huntings I loved in 2238. It's very sad, because it was the only online game I actually play, and I was with 2238 no matter how playerbase small or big was. However I have trust in AHS-9's words that it will be the new begining. Becase you guys, all of you, players, devs and game masters did the awesome and remarkable thing. Be proud.

Please, let next generation of enthusiastic gamers / developers recreate 2238. Make the source codes  open source.
We know that you are bored, without any motivation and without money, but not everyone is like you, there are people who actually have some time and will to make this server and game better.
Give them that chance, give them chance to build on your foundation and make something better.

Please, don´t be grumpy old devs who want to take everything with them into the grave.
2238 deserve next chance, but with different devs. Lets see what will happen.

Well how falloutish is that?

Choices: slow travelling "speed", random nerfs of random things, anti-goddamn-ape features hurting mostly non-apes, useless quests with shitty rewards - like it could kill anyone to get 2000 XP instead of 200
and
Consequences: this thread proves them the best

It is fine as it is, isn't it?

Good ol' times (2010 and the very beginning of 2012, when new high hopes came with wipe), totally worth all these sleepless nights.

I'm surprised of two things here - people being surprised (like "ded gaem" has been a mystery until now) and other ... well, disgusting creatures, begging now for free itanz.

Well,
4 years of memories.

As best times i remember good old redding fights when afternoon redding mining/mine guarding turned into PK/APK fights, which grew into 5 or more hours long constant full scale PvP/TC ending with early morning.

2238 was here always, people were always quiting and later returning to good old 2238, and now . . . . there wont be any 2238 anymore and it feels sad  :'(
shame, damn shame

Fonline 2238 was part of my life for last 4 years .I have made a lot of friends here, few enemies, talked with many great and/or interesting people ingame or IRC, I had hundreds hours of fun with PvP/PvE and yeah as item hamster also with mining and crafting. I have many great memories, and for that i Thank you Fonline 2238, I Thank you developers for all that.

@Akatosh, @Tomekwro, @Michaelh139, @Frenchy, @Cowboy, @Reese and the others not mentioned.

The game already was dead for quite a long time (approx. year). Maybe shutting down may lead this project with new hope and new team which would gladly listen to player needs.

In case sources are not going to be released, here's the second chance for revival.

This is mostly sad for me, for a long time i had expected a Multipalyer version of Fallout, and this one is the best by far, i had a lot of adventures and a lot of fun, even if the game had its defects bugs etc, for my opinion it was  a Very good job the one devs did out there, adapting sucha  game to a multiplayer form.
this has been one of the best games i ever played, and teh community was, not good but: Friendly.
the crafting system, the tent, the base, the Town control, those were GREAT features this game had, and these blew my mind.
i got a lot more of things to say, this is sad, but well everything has an end, even the wasteland.
Thank all players and devs for this good game experience

Well I guess it is time to say goodbye, but I have to say a 4 year run is pretty damn good for a game with server costs and only volunteer devs, thanks for fun down the years and good luck if any of you decide to do any other projects down the years.

If its donations for this month, I can probably come up with the funds.

Shit, I even have a VDS in a datacenter that has a lot of space that you guys could host it on if you wanted.

If its just because of lack of time to maintain; I may look into getting a server up in my gaming community; on which all of you would be welcome.

I loved this game in the beginning, and I certainly tolerated it in its later versions, if it truly does go I will miss in sorely even the pknoobs, now I won't have anyone to know I'm better than...  :(

However all of you should take heart, there is still hope, if you truly wish for the game to continue you merely need to step up!  Help find some donations, talk to people and drum up some developers, just because some people are leaving doesn't mean there isn't more out there who can come in.  I already have a few people lined up for donations, if we can get some confirmation the server isn't going to shut down so the money doesn't just vanish.  T.V. shows, Actors, and Movies have been saved by the sheer force of the fans.  If this game is something you all feel is worth fighting for, then Step up, less chat about taking action, and more real action!

Huh...is it too late to make an update joke?

But seriously I'm gonna miss this server/game, where we could all just go to NCR. Hang out. Have fun. Be pickpocketed, be town bombed/town bursted, be base rape- Um...

So yeah, I wish I was on more, I didn't excpect it to end so soon. In one whole year from when I started I was even going to tell people that I played a whole year and feel proud of it hahah.

Thanks for making this such a good time to play this: Nomad, Voron, Pitcher (Oh you guys were the best, I hope things get better :3), Ziodyne (Dont worry, I'm not mad at you anymore friend), Kitty, RangerGreg, Duna (Crits for life), Nataliya96 (I think I got the name wrong o.o), Dope (Thanks for livening up the NCR), Dac, and if I missed your name I'm sorry and please tell me heheh.

So long 2238... gonna miss you. (Guess it's new MMO time O.o)

your absolutely right, it isnt a easy task. But neglecting the players needs for a long time has its bad results, and i find 2238 is a hard game to get into for newer players due to its extreme hardcore nature. thats what makes the game fun aswell, but it wont attract that many persistent players in the long run. Why am i saying TLA is better is because they have a team of excellent devs who helped me once and i never asked for anything then :) and they created a atmosphere that for the first time i spent so much time in the fonline games. dont get me wrong, 2238 was fun for a week, until i noticed i wasnt going anywhere and i keep getting robbed or shot every few minutes :( and no one will help you. eventually i just had enough of dying and i cant get better at the game because of what happens every few minutes ;)

If we are going to make another game, it most likely won't be a MMO anymore. Chances are high that we are sticking with the FOnline engine in such a case. But nothing is definitive. It really depends on how motivated we can get.

That's almost a shock. I consider most of 2238's issues to be the result of some design flaws, and I didn't think it could be solved without implying deep and difficult changes concerning the most basic features, but last months the game seemed to finally take a direction. These changes seemed to lead to a different game style, to finally illustrate what the devs originally wanted to create. And now it's going to stop, and only souvenirs will remain. No next chance for 2238 to improve and make use of that nearly-magical potential everyone distinguished for so long.

It's a sad day. But FOnline's future is not that dark yet. I hope many people will look forward taking a part in that future, with or without our own project.

Or...just donate money to keep it going. I bet if we donated enough, this would not be happening. Players dropping out...less money to support it.

Which is why we players need to see an ongoing dollar figure of how much is left/needed so we know when it is critical. Maybe add it to server status gif so we see this:

*Players Online
*Server Uptime
*Euros Remaining

Donate money ? To run a 30 players server with a dev team without anymore motivation in this project, i don't think so.

Actualy 2238, for me is "the fundation", now it need the construction with quest and a global "something to do". Lot of players have good ideas for 2238 that actual dev team never listened.

Remember before "Idler", one update fucked all community (the idea is good, but the result is shit !)

You can say idler ruined the shit, but I can say, it get rid the cheaters from the server.
From the beginning DEVs understimated exploits, and left players alone, they found exploits and use it, then whine that something is op and not balanced, tell me - wtf?
people should or be banned from very beginning, and for reporting stuff you should get rewards, but nothing was done, and the result is here, the idiotic community of asslickers on one side, and on second you got liars, cheaters.
Keep flowing to the tlamk2, Go exploit another server, and whine, why the player population would go down.

There are very simple way to avoid fast relog, extend lvl cap & wipe server (not a wipe every 2 years). We sawn that 2238 is fucked in 8 mouth approximaly (shitload of stuff, unbalanced gangs and apparition of alts). I totaly agreed that alt was a serious problem (or not), but that idler, it only pain in the ass !

+ i never rly understood the problem of FR (ok u have 2 lifes, but u lvled 2x more than other, use 2x more ressources), and just wipe this before teams can handle enought stuff/time for making alt.

That wasn't DEV's failure about Fast relog, but players, that wanted to cheat the other side, so it became a problem.
Lvling in those terms is just plain bullshit.
When you got stuff to lvl up one character, you'll lvl up 10 characters too.
Title: Re: The End
Post by: dskpnk on June 07, 2013, 05:48:35 pm
Lvling is not the problem, feeding alt with 5ca/5drugs set/5 weapons is more problematic, even more if u have a team with 5x5 guys, gather 25 good stuff for one night of pvp, possibly resulting in the lost of 25 stuff is not so easy.

We don't care, alt madness+gang domiantion= wipe this shit, start again and give a chance to new gangs...

+ when u see that before idling server runned 180 player, and after that it run 30 players resulting in closing server, i think u can call this a developement fail !

Stuff is also easy to get, but if you played with one alt more skillfull, than 25 alts with just rush-->1hex-->win/die/relog, you wouldn't lose much, and your enemies too.
This is just plain bullshit, even w/o fastrelogs there were nice battles, and you didn't need waves to use that.

I just loved the intensity of fight during this alt madness, i remember some 1h30 TC, with great fireworks of plasma and frag mercs, the switching situation of fights.... + i played this game for 4 years and never see more strategic fights than during alt madness (covering spawn entrance to block reinforcement, covering tons of stuff and looter, getting out, reentering, split enemy etc etc)

It's possible with one alt, but fight just get finished in 10 min max => frustration. I remember first fight after idler, taking 3 city before enemy shown, and fucked them in 5min...

+ this idling was stupid without wipe, ok now we have enought stuff for 50 players, but we have to wait 45min for a 5min fight

Ye, I agree with most of others, who had great time during 2010 and before, the game was good, the devs were great, the wasteland was harsh, but nothing lasts forever. the fun ended, the game turned into shit, because of that the people stopped playing, and actually it is the people what will be missed most, at least from my side, i really had great moments with most of people, it is:

Doc Spad, hejmr, intruders, Grim, Besmertnik, Marko, Glumer, Sarakin, Florek, Janosik, bigbadmama, FEAR, Lemark, Jennaw, Kitty, Gussiplur, Adams, msh, Linnea,  all the vc citizens,  all the russian guys from Broken Hills Hunters, all the vc citizens, all the hth fighters we fought together with and against, all of them will be and are missed.
Also a thanks should be said to great gm's of the game, because of who i had a lot of great events and moments: Rusty, Nexxos, Voland, Gatling.
Also thanks to old devs, which i remembered thanking like million times, when they did one more update that all the players wanted: Atom, Ghosthack, Scypior, Lexx, Lisac2k, Solar, Slimcharles and of course Cvet.
This is why the game was great, and now it has lost all of the above mentioned, so i am not feeling sorry for 2238 to be shut down, i was already nostalgic, and in my mind 2238 was dead long time ago when it lost its beauty.

I'm pretty sure that there were/are people motivated enough that they would gladly fix and improve this game to a very playable state. Of course one would need 2238 source - oh yes with cvet's SDK you are able to make almost 1:1 copy of 2238 but it's a waste of time trying to reinvent the wheel. So there is *probably* a chance for 2238 not to die if it's made open and improved.. ofc not necessarily as 2238, rather think of it as of TLAmk2 when compared to TLA etc. If it's source doesn't get published and the server is closed, then well, consider it dead, txbye.

But hey, 2238 source getting opened? Doubtful :P

To me this thread looks like some stupid joke, especially that there was an update few days ago. You don't make an update to announce four days later that you are closing the project, do you?

Anyway if it's true, then my thanks go to "old" devs that brought this game in 2009, I enjoyed it a lot.

That is what I think also thinking. I think devs are just jokeing and on June 23rd there will be a end but it will be the end of this era and the start of another. Seems like devs are just trolololoololololing.

i hope you are right man, but iam also afraid they might be serious about this. In both cases i ll keep enjoying this pre-end MADNESS. Its rly fun to play with just gauss pistols/rifles, pulse rifles and also APAs or PAs. I though its something imbalanced, but it rly isnt, even in APA armors players are vunerable from hi tier weapons. Its quite good balanced even in this state.

Thank you for this madness, iam glad it lasts right now.

This decision is so abnormal that its natural that people wont believe it. Look 4 days ago you made an update, more was discussed(Gunrunners in the future.) -> and now all of sudden you want to abandom project?

And whats up with that whole mess of not releasing sources? If the project woud be abondom woudn`t it be better not to waste this gigantic hard work?

This whole situacion, doesnt have whole sense at all.

I don't remember the current devs making any server either, but that fact somehow escapes your apologetic, simple mind. And yes, I worked and probably will work on another FOnline project, my work is generally considered good even though there's quite some time left to the release - am I worthy of criticizing 2238 in your eyes, or do I have to work more? Because the bullshit you post sounds like "the only people worthy of criticizing the current devs are the current devs" - and that's exactly the line of thinking that killed this server. So yeah, you're that guy that killed 2238 because you shielded the devs from criticism even though what they were doing was clearly wrong and plenty of people were trying to tell them why. Maybe you didn't pull the trigger, but you definitely supplied the bullets. Chew on that fact for a moment before you post more.

I'm not assuming anything, it's not the first time you reacted by lashing out against valid criticism aimed at the devteam here. If you did so in the past along with the few other asslickers, it probably (hell, maybe even unconsciously) played a part in giving the devs the idea that they can keep ignoring the community and we all know how that ended. So yeah, actually you're the asshole here, along with all the other clowns who still sing to the "blame the players" tune.

Accusing someone of something should come with some examples to carry some weight. In this case, you just pulled something out of your ass and tried looking smart... You seem to be mistaking the current devteam for the people that made 2238 awesome back in 2009-2011. I don't think this would've happened if the old guard was still around - and yeah, I have nothing bad to say about them either, they did an amazing job - which, sadly, was later sabotaged, for the lack of a better word.

really was a good adventure with its shares of ups and downs, tears of joy and misery.  I had fun playing back last season with Aoife and the TKs (some remember us in our inglorious escapades ;) )  Again lots o fun with aoife, she was in it with me from the start, we grew up in fonline like a couple pups.  Grim the undying and the irish breakfast song guru, mcdoctor ;)  Good memories and fond farewellzs......

Well, it always hurts when it's really over, even though some of us knew 2238 will die a year ago. We did our job and told you that you will kill this game and you did your job and killed it. But, no grudge, I know that at that point you thought you did the right thing. Actually, from what I know you ( self righteous ignorants - i keed, don't be offended ) you probably still think you did the right thing even when the game is dead before your eyes.

But now it's over... No more whining on forums about pk's (I never thought I'll say this but I will miss it), no more flaming for days with text walls that let you  know how stupid you are over and over (love you T-888, Nice_Boat, Crazy), no more fags that don't even get the role-playing ideea but they call themselves role-players just because they suck at everything, no more gang flames ( in 2010 The Hawks stoled my flowers when they raped our base, I am still waiting for those flower back --gg, mates, take care of you-- and and GG to TTLA ), no more gm's to spoil your fun.

When we made Section 8 a few years back, it was suposed to be a faction where you don't follow any rules except for having fun. And we did for a long time and I am gratfull for that. All the love for my Section 8 mates, it was a delight to get to know you guys, some of you were later proven to be great friends and wonderfull people. I apologize for every time I ofended or hurt any FO 2238 player in any way, I was just playing the game as the game allowed me do it. I've meet so many great guys in FO2238 and made many friends. Thanks to all the TB guys near San Fran and for those 2 years of crazy TB fights (Dante, gg, bro). Thanks to all the guys that ever pwned me in game, this way giving me the chance to become a better player.

Thank you Bob for banning 2 of my best chars when I dual logged drunk and then stalking me for 3 months and testing me and my faction mates. You are a cool guy, Gorlak, I don't care what they say about you! Thank to all the others game masters for doing their job and suporting the game.

Thank you devs for trying! It was a great journey and FOnline 2238 will never be offline in our hearts! No pointing fingers now, I wish you all well and good luck with any project (IRL or not) that you may start in the future.

This is not the end, just another begining. We will meet again over the internet and then... I'll still cap your asses!!! Have fun guys and thank you again for a experience that I'll never forget.

This was to be expected to happen sooner or later. I personally quit the game quite a while ago, when I realized certain things to myself.

Still, I would like to thank every developer and GM for the great time I had spent thanks to this game. I don't think there's anything similar going to appear anytime soon. I'm not even quite sure, that this experience could be successfully replicated... just take a look at any modern game, which is entirely loyal to a player, while 2238 was hardcore, as hardcore can be, in a good way.

This was a unique experience, especially during late 2009 and till early 2011. I met so many nice people in a game, had so many great fights, had hilarious situations and many, many other pleasant emotions.

Additionally, I would like to thank all people participated in a 3D project, which was never finished, but I hope it will be, someday, by some other people. You rock, guys and gals.

Thank you all once again, I'll never forget you all.

Cheers, Graf.

I am going to set up a "Miscellaneous Items Museum", but I am not sure where to put it.

Perhaps the Maltese Falcon.

Maybe Gas Station.

Yeah, that would work.

Condoms, TV Dinners, Pocket Lint, various Keys, Dog Tags, Holotapes, Box o Noodles, and so on.
Stack the displays in separate areas, perhaps decorate with glowing bottles and flowers.

Could become a PvP place, but please leave the displays alone.

I will start tomorrow- just dump your misc. items at Gas Station!

Let's see the CRAP!

PS: leave surplus armor and weapons at Golgotha- along with companions, mercs, brahmins, slaves.
A fitting END.

Somehow I still keep holding on to a small portion of hope that this is not the end...  ;)

And even if - so what? We're just humans (at least most of us :P). We do what we like/love for nothing, not even a silly "thanks". At least i stopped to work for players and do things i do for the game itself. Tiny, yet so huge difference.

Anyway, we have a full right to screw up, we have full right to make bigger or smaller mistakes. That's how this shit works, either you do something good or bad. Nothing is hardcoded, especially in mmo. Yea, there are things which are are broken, there are things which does not work as intended - again, so what? You expected bigcompany product from a small team of few folks with bit too much of free time? Fuck, man... We will do what we must. But we do it for Aiur. Not you.
Did we fucked up? Can't say, so far i see only little bitches across whole forum spamming same old thing. I'd start to worry when i see specific events among team, not typical bullshit across the forum. I'm not going anywhere, i still have a few things to do before i could say "that's all folks". Afaik few other people among the staff too, and ideas are growing faster than their implementation - what's natural here. Keep reading and posting how 2238 is dead if it makes you happy, we're not going anywhere.

I especially like the "we do it for Aiur" part  ;D, even though my homeland is on Char.  :P

i think everyone here needs to stop crying about 2238 shutting down. I just dont get why people think TLA is a bad server, its one of the best servers i have ever played that got me hooked in the fonline games with Devs actually *helping* the players and the community. Say what u want, but player statistics never lie. And players will always play on the best server. 2238 is a great server, but alot of players dont understand that this server never attracted persistent players and that is the problem. Sure there are people with their own personal opinion that 2238 was the best, but then again there are players that think otherwise. All im reading in this forum are biased opinions(not personal) and whining that TLA is awful. IF 2238 was a better server, why is it closing? Personally i agree 2238 has so much potential to be a better server, but talking about it gets you nowhere, Devs should always take time regardless and talk to the community for ideas. After all, good ideas helps improve a server for everyone and i dont see why 2238 devs never do that. I understand they lead important lives outside the server but being a Fonline Dev, you need to have certain responsibilities otherwise people start talking. If some is going to release 2238 V2. count me in! But please... make improvements and dont just ask for donations.

"Out of curiosity i looked up a few videos, the leveling clac, perks and some items for TLAmk2, and there is no way that I will ever play that garbage.Over there every retard has over 700hp,what the fuck? The weapons are some over exotic small penis compensating spalsh damage mess, qwasi nuclear space thingies and <untranslatable cuss word>.Exp is given out on quests by the 1000s

Taking the fact that the name of the game is "the life after" it has none of the "post apocalyptic" feel. They stuffed in a shitload of new weapons and useless doo hickeys with hitpoints reaching the skies so idiots can shoot at eachother all day long. The game is made especially for PvP 12 year old kids."

im speaking from personal opinion, sure talk about how bad the server all you like but its still your own opinion. everything has its flaws, sure 2238 and tlamk2 isnt perfect to meet everyones standards but thats just how it is. So what if there are kids playing the game, its not harming anybody( we were once kids ). If someone is entertained by a specific game, let them be! Whats it to you? i dont know why im typing all this... its just pure common sense. Would you like it if you were playing a specific game that you love and people are flaming you for it just because they hate it? 2238 was my very first fonline server and playing with mates was very fun indeed. and i will always remember the good times :) P.S if you decide to host your very own 2238 server ill join immediately :) respect*

It doesnt matter what fonline server i play on. i will always get 300+ ping regardless >< the only time i had perfect ping was on fonline australia but it closed not long after it opened :( and not many players unfortunately.
A while ago My mates and i were saying that we could go on a trip to europe and experience 2238 with very low ping hahaah. And why do i prefer TLA over 2238? one mighty reason only, better ping for my mates and i.

I lol'd, because it'd take you about 3 hours in game to learn that:
- combat is actually more lethal than on 2013 2238, because the new weapons counteract the amount of hitpoints;
- quests are complicated enough and repeatable enough to allow for building a finished char through doing them, and since they force player interaction instead of player-molerat interaction they immerse you into the social side of the game, which is something 99% of 2238 community has been crying for since 2009;
- PvP isn't really the focus of the game, so actually 2238 is more like a "game for idiots shooting each other all day long."

Seriously, why did you even bother posting that uninformed garbage is beyond me, yes - TLA isn't perfect, but its faults don't lie with its gameplay mechanics (which are way better than on 2238), but with the aesthetics and immersion (no "wasteland" feel, amateurish translation, new weapons, health bars, blah blah). The only gameplay mechanics that warrants criticism from a 2238 fan standpoint are overcomplicated crafting and maybe... PvP. But since 2238 devs basically killed PvP on their server, the latter point does not really apply.

The PvP in Ghost Town is entertaining (except for spawn campers, but those can be dealt with), good job with that.

I'm glad that someone likes it, here is how the whole map looks like on a single screen:

(https://i.cubeupload.com/7FHBsC.jpg) (https://i.cubeupload.com/7FHBsC.jpg)

I wanted to make a ruined city map that wouldn't look just like a lot of random copy/paste of generic ruined
walls from encounter Fallout maps, but like real buildings with their pre-war function still somewhat visible.

Needless to say, it was a lot of work, I think I will never try to do a map so large again, not before we
do something with the Mapper (2238 Mapper has small improvements compared to the SDK Mapper which
makes life easier a bit, but it's mostly cosmetics). In fact the map is still unfinished, the facility lacks roof,
which was supposed to be custom graphics). The whole map was supposed to be a surface part for a location
with HQ chemical components - southern suburbs of San Francisco, which are "press gang territory".
You could blast through main streets if you had enough firepower, or sneak around to get to the the facility,
but there would be gang patrols moving around so it wouldn't be that simple. Well, that was a plan, I think
the location with mobs and scripts would be ready in the summer but now it's too late ;D

I lol'd, because it'd take you about 3 hours in game to learn that:
- combat is actually more lethal than on 2013 2238, because the new weapons counteract the amount of hitpoints;
- quests are complicated enough and repeatable enough to allow for building a finished char through doing them, and since they force player interaction instead of player-molerat interaction they immerse you into the social side of the game, which is something 99% of 2238 community has been crying for since 2009;
- PvP isn't really the focus of the game, so actually 2238 is more like a "game for idiots shooting each other all day long."

+1

reading from what wipe said, well thats exactly what happened, you started to make the game for yourselves, not for the community, and the result was so, that only you left who were playing game designed to yourself. its not entertaining anymore, you can call us trolls, spammers whatever, but when old devs made mistakes, we didint troll, we beta tested, made suggestions, they listend! and now whats left is shitty game, good memories, so im not sad that shitty game will be gone now, good memories of obt2-obt3-obt4 will always remain.

2238 is now maybe good for pvp arena, log in, take gear, go to action, shut it down - no quest, no crafting (remember times when you can make first levels on crafting from junk), no interaction (ghost towns). I loved 2238 cause i started there, meet good friends. But its over. I remember very old times, it was good game cause i played it for long time, had some good time there. I cant tell that i will miss this server cause i dont play there. I will miss people which dont play tla.

I totally love the Ghost Town map it reminds me good old FO:Battleground you just grab a gun, armor and go fight. Surprisingly the map is suited for PE 1 builds and for builds with great perception equally. The fact that there is high-tech stuff spawning deep inside the map makes it so interesting in terms of pvp, basically everybody tries to reach the area to loot some APA, gauss pistol/rifle, pulse rifle, vindicator etc. If this was the new server just this map and a constant never ending pvp, I would be so happy, no pointless crafting, no farming just fighting. I say crafters and Mad Max wannabes keep your TLAmk2, us hardcore pvp players will find our home again  ;)
we didint troll

Sorry, but in case nobody told you TLAmk2 is significantly better in terms of crafting, molerat killing and farming. Just look at encounters, in 2238 its just desert, desert, weed, ruins, desert... on TLA you can encounter abandoned gas station, buildings, farms and so on. There are countless special locations, I remember I met my first special encounter after 1 hour of playing there. My arguments are still valid - on 2238 no pvp means no fun (unless you are discovering the game for the first time).

Just look at the server population numbers, once announced that the server ends, all crafters left only hardcore pvpers remained (quite obvious no point in hoarding stuff when it's over).

Are you even serious? The attitudes were completely different back then, you'd have to be blind not to notice. Jovanka and Samira alone have accumulated enough negative audience to kill three indie game communities, parley, farm nerf, the introduction of painful crafting and Solar's rocket industry crisis never even came close, though they were all pretty bad when considered on their own.

No, I'm just stating a fact... or are you denying that there's plenty of people who firmly believe that it's you two who are responsible for this mess? Doesn't matter whether it's true or not, you fucked your PR up so hard there simply was no way to salvage this game with you on board, because you became nothing more than a troll/hate magnet when 2238 desperately needed to keep the server population from plummeting. Deal with it - or keep being autistic, I don't really care.

Just look at all the hate you're getting in this thread, that's more or less your legacy in the FOnline world. But seeing how happy with yourself you seem to be, I don't really expect you to connect all the dots here.

I never said that I hated TLA, yes I hate crafting but it doesn't mean that TLA is a bad game, it's just not a good game for me. I said many times that TLA is a good server if you like what it offers. I am simply a part of minority that does not, that's all.

I'm reposting this because obviously with it already being deleted not all of the dev's were able to see it. I will continue to repost this no matter the number of times you ban the account. Post count: 2

This is what happens when dev's decide not to listen to any of their fans and create more problems then they fix. They always wanted to add their own ideas of features and would ban people that requested some patches to just fix bugs. Because of the dev team, this game has died. For instance, take a look at what WoW did, they made the game pay-to-play and made sure to pay attention to people's requests for different features on the forums. Along with balances and formula reworks. As a dev you are supposed to make the game fun to play for everyone, not make a game just for yourself to feel like a god. The second part of your screw up was begging for donations, being your only income, and not doing what the players wanted. Who's going to donate to a game that they don't like? No one. The game had plenty of donations back in the day, then you started adding people to the dev team that the entire fanbase hated. For instance, Jovanka was added to the team when everyone openly hated on her in NCR. The only people that didn't openly hate was the people who were laughing at their keyboard trolling. Few of the good dev's and GM's remained til the end because many of them saw what the majority of the team was doing and realized you were all killing the game. Izual in particular, thank you for your service.

You mean you and the voices in your head?

Anyway, the new dev-team is getting the sendoff it deserves and it's happening quite naturally - nobody's forcing anyone to post anything negative, actually plenty of messages are getting deleted due to dev butthurt. If you don't like that or feel it's inappropriate - well, tough luck mate.

Besides, iirc last time you said I was bullshitting you were saying that 2238 is going to last forever and I was saying that dramatic changes need to be made in order to save the server. The changes didn't happen and here we are... but then again things never really improve around here, so I guess morons will be morons and Lexx will keep stating that nothing really happened and everything is the community's fault ;D

Oh well, at least everything's consistent and 2238 is going out in the same style that really brought it down.

My post was related to devs changed -> game started to suck, which is not true at all. You can blame whatever suckage as much as you want on "the devs", but fact is, most of the "new devs" simply didn't worked on deep game play mechanics at all. There *always* was at least one of the "old guard" around.
Title: Re: The End

My post was related to devs changed -> game started to suck, which is not true at all.

Actually, it's 100% true. The game really started to suck after the new devs became a part of the team, which is obviously why people blame them for that. The fact that they became the PR face for those changes on the forums didn't help at all.

You can blame whatever suckage as much as you want on "the devs", but fact is, most of the "new devs" simply didn't worked on deep game play mechanics at all. There *always* was at least one of the "old guard" around.

Yeah, and as usual the specifics are confidential even though people have been asking you who exactly brainstormed and implemented those "deep gameplay mechanics" for weeks. In all honesty, this just looks like a bad attempt at damage control - most of the old devs have gained a lot of respect from the community, so let's put the blame on an unspecified old dev to take the heat off the current ones.

Basically, what you're saying is that the author of the features that more or less killed this game chose to remain anonymous while a huge part of the playerbase kept bashing Jovanka and Samira for something they haven't done... and they both happily rolled along with this for a few months because they're the heroes 2238 deserves, but not the ones 2238 needs right now. So you let us hunt them. Because they can take it (while flaming and trolling every piece of negative feedback, I might add). Because they aren't our heroes. They're the silent guardians, watchful protectors. The dark knights.

Jesus Christ, cool story bro.

See, this is why the game died. Because instead of giving an honest answer, you keep hedging, disregarding the players and finally flip the other side the bird when backed against the wall.

All I asked was who exactly came up with those wonderful ideas - and all I've got in response was "you know nothing," "but it was someone unspecified who did something unspecified at an unspecified time" and finally "I'm done talking to you, bugger off."

And it's not even like giving the answer now would hurt anyone - after all, it's highly unlikely any of us will meet in another FOnline project in the future. But yeah, haha, what did I expect - you've been like that for 2 years, it's not like you'd suddenly change your attitude.

Not going to bother you with this again, sorry for even asking. Enjoy the shutdown party, I guess.
Title: Re: The End
Post by: Lexx on June 13, 2013, 05:11:52 pm
It's a honest answer, as I don't have a reason to lie. I can't tell you the names of feature authors right now, because in order to be 100% correct (which is absolutely necessary here or we will be liars again as soon as I am remembering something a little wrong) I would need to check the repository history, which I cannot do right now (and even if - I doubt I would be motivated to do this, as we have over 10.000 commits and researching who worked at what thing at date x is a lot work). Other than that, everyone from the "old guard" was somehow related in a feature at some point. We all discussed stuff together, every single time.

See, you wouldn't believe me anyway. You always manage it to rotate my words better than any rotator could ever do, even a single wrong word or quote I couldn't write on my mobile phone is enough for you to come up with a new wall of text about how filthy we are.

Man, this talk is so annoying and as always, I am the only dev stupid enough not to remain in silence and to reply instead.

Your facts are wrong. The server did not lose players after every update.

The number of players was dropping steadily for over 3 years, the last year with the
new developers was actually the only longer period when the number of players wasn't
dropping (and maybe 2009, there is no logs so I can't tell) although I'm not saying that
it's thanks to the new developers. Maybe it was just some core playerbase that stayed longer.

TL;DR - you post bullshit.
Title: Re: The End

At least Vedaras had the common courtesy to curtail his comments before they became degrading. Apparently you have no such respect for a game that you have playing for two years, NiceBoat. If it has always been the same old shit, then how can you expect it to be any different now. You know what the definition of insanity is? Repeating the same thing, over and over, expecting different results.

Maybe if you had actually done some constructive, input some real features, or you know, pulled that fat dick out of your ass for half a second, you could have made an actual difference. Instead you continue to piss and moan about the same shit. I have seen these devs, who have provided you with a gaming experience that you actually seem to care about (unless you just like to whine walls of eye-bleed for no reason), answer many of your questions to the best of their ability at the time, and it is never good enough for you. Why the fuck? Is it your mission in life to make this process as hard as fucking humanly possible? If so, damn good job, now eat another kielbasa and drink a nice tall glass of.... wait for it..... shit... Undiluted shit.

Why? Because this is what you are serving to the devs every time you post anywhere. It is not constructive criticism. It is simply how you jerk yourself off, or get your jolly, or whatever. You, and people like you, NiceBoat, are why this server went to hell. What is the point of listening to a playerbase if all they are going to do is shit in their eyes and ears.  So once again, close your asshole and gives these guys a word of encouragement, or at least have the common decency to fuck off.

@ Playerbase Dropping: Fallout 1 and 2 are old as fuck games. The only reason this old as fuck mod, of an old as fuck game lasted as long as it did, is because the original games where fantastic, and this mod was fantastic. It is to be expected that time wearies the play-ability of games like these.

Maybe if you had actually done some constructive, input some real features,

Actually, some stuff I suggested made it to the game - and my input regarding the PvP balance was good enough for Solar to unban me when one of the local forum mods got a bit too trigger happy due to personal differences. But then again how the fuck would you know, you're so new it hurts. And yeah, even when I grew bitter and totally disheartened about the future of this game, I offered a step-by-step plan to regain the audience lost due to the recent changes. Would it work? Who knows, the Voluptuous Duo decided to troll me instead of having a discussion - and to make it even more hilarious, actually started implementing some of the things I suggested after the critical mass was reached and the server was basically doomed.

As for the insults, well - they just show how much of a pleb you are.

You know what the definition of insanity is? Repeating the same thing, over and over, expecting different results.
you remember the time when i told everyone in IRC to come pvp and you told them to move away to tlamk2, because 2238 is dead? you remember the time when i told everyone in IRC to come pvp and you told them to move away to tlamk2, because 2238 is dead? you remember the time when i told everyone in IRC to come pvp and you told them to move away to tlamk2, because 2238 is dead?

or you know, pulled that fat dick out of your ass for half a second, you could have made an actual difference.
talking from experience i see?

I have seen these devs, who (...) answer many of your questions to the best of their ability at the time,
they've answered questions with more questions and ambiguity. because it's easier to give a cowardly answer than a direct answer?

and drink a nice tall glass of.... wait for it..... shit... Undiluted shit.
make sure you don't pop that vein. it looks like it's gonna blow. make sure to monitor your heart, i don't want anything to happen to you.

You, and people like you, NiceBoat, are why this server went to hell.
you like pointing fingers, don't you?

What is the point of listening to a playerbase if all they are going to do is shit in their eyes and ears.
treat people like shit, you'll be treated like shit yourself. eye for an eye.

So once again, close your asshole and gives these guys a word of encouragement, or at least have the common decency to fuck off.
it's better to criticize than to pointlessly encourage perpetual mediocrity. especially when people said what's wrong dozens of times.

Well, typical reaction between developers and users. It's not changing a bit anywhere. FYI for direct answers you need to ask direct questions, nothing far than "say me the name of dev who ruined mah old product i want to burn him on inqusition's fire" i didn't see.
Lexx, you'd better really stop answering.

Some Old School of FOnline 2238

Wait, so I really have to specify what changes and gameplay hurting features we're talking about? Okay.

- who made the call to keep crafting the only viable source of PvP ammo after it became apparent that the PvP community was going to leave
- who is the person responsible for the idler system
- who thought it's a good idea to allocate resources to the development of the new SPECIAL system
- who thought it's a good idea to make NPCs almost as strong as some player characters
- who made the call to keep nerfing farming

... that's some obvious stuff that's been mentioned over 9000 times, I'm pretty sure more specific questions were asked plenty of times.

As for the "usual player-dev relation," the answer is how about no? Basically, this kind of shit is exclusive to games like 2238 and that shitty Day Z clone. I've been an active member of the OFP/ArmA community for a few years, never seen anything like that there. Same with Close Combat. Same with Brood War. Same with Tekken. Same with Mortal Kombat, even though the bugs were strong with that one. Same with League of Legends, even though the community is comprised mostly of kids there and there's plenty of haters all over the web. Could it be that this shit only happens to... you know... bad dev teams?

No zoom available, drugs lasted 10 minutes, look at those shitty builds (22% chance to hit in eyes), auto-aim available only via blacklisted FOCD plugin (you could be banned for that) same goes for SS binds etc. etc. compared to today pvp system this one sucked. Shitloads of reasonable requests were made, none was heard/pvp playerbase has been crying for years to balance some stuff, and nobody cared for them.I really can-t see the failure of any player, not even the most stupid troll has failed here.A troll is important to create a wasteland feeling,he is very useful in his own way.

I have already expressed my gratitude and stated the exact limits of it, what exactly is wrong with my posts? My lack of appreciation for the recent developments? Newsflash - the vast majority of your playerbase didn't appreciate them. For details, please consult the server stats.

What exactly is insane about what I say? That I'm "ruining your goodbye party"? If you really believe that, you're more insane than me, because your goodbye party is just a few blind people patting you on the back and a giant nostalgia bomb.

Allright, I think that's the right moment.

I just want to say something and after that remain silent, as I was since always, though I have read the forum and played the game for about 3,5 years.

To old developers: You have created an excellent game, and you have destroyed it with your awfully bad decisions. You have never established a proper communication with the playerbase. You have promoted incompetent people. You have never displayed a consistent vision for the game. The amount of wrong steps you have taken is just overwhelming. Anyway, thanks for trying to keep this sad project alive for as long as possible.

To new "developers": Shame on you, nothing more than that. It was always a pain to watch your activity in 2238 undevelopment and your attitude shown on the forum. Don't even dare to reply to my post, as I have no respect for you.

To Nice Boat: Thank you for all the effort you have taken to heal this sick project, it always was a pleasure to read your posts. For me, you are a hero of this community.

Because if they wanted to have a reconciliation shutdown party with mutual understanding and manly tears shed on both sides, they wouldn't keep their "we're never wrong" act up. The amount of hypocrisy in this thread is simply stunning if you think about it - on one hand, the death of this server was brought about by neglecting the core of the playerbase - and now they want the same playerbase they neglected to weep for them, while at the same time maintaining the attitude that caused this mess. It just doesn't work like that.

The SS shortcut is somehow ruining it from my point of view. When you have enough SS now you can be just running around spamming dat key and the 3 guys shooting you can do nothing about it. I miss the kind of situation when you actually wouldn't make it to the inv. and got killed. But then again I think that this binding thing was implemented to make it fair for those who didn't have FOCD. Or was it?
Title: Re: The End
Post by: vedaras on June 13, 2013, 11:52:03 pm
well, dont forget autoaim and other stuff which were implemented to game, yes maybe it is convenient, but one way or another it made fights dumber, less skill required, i still sometimes watch red dot army old videos, when they kicked the buts, without any autoaims, always manual sniping all the nobs.

Anyway, these were times when the game was alive and kickin, now its just dead. Most probably cause it was nerfed by devs...
Title: Re: The End
Post by: John Porno on June 14, 2013, 12:51:38 am
aside from just being a neat feature, autoaim had to be introduced since some people were using modded interfaces. Constant stimming already was a problem, the hotkey just took it to a whole new level.

We will send you the complete source code of 2238 so you can save it and make a game we never really could, and decorate our unworthy brains with a bullet." ?

From start of this session was tc system broken, fast relog broken - half of players left after first months maybe 1-2 months. Gangs which remain there split to nonbalanced alliances and after less pvp start to hunt players everywhere. Economy system was shame cause if you have tc locker and good gang you can easily buy everything in all shops. After all of it left only players hiding on south somewhere around Junktown and NCR. And when they show somewhere on north they will by killed with hardly gained equip for them - ghost towns. Problem was that there isnt any goal in this game. For what fight? For few screens, some video? Fight for equip, if you have tons of it. Live like hammster on fully base and craft, craft craft more for... for what? Or play for funn? Yes that is it, all games are about funn. I can hace funn from some screens, i can have funn from easy gain of equip, from crafting, but for how long? This game all the time needed some goals, funn like new quests, interesting farm locations and mainly interaction between players! Its great game but still on beginning of development, its still beta...

the tutorial was fallout 1 and fallout 2 games, everything else is learned from wasteland itself, i did learn, others did, and it seems that you received a lesson as well, so take it as man.

EDIT: Michael, I mean basic things; Like, space bar is to TALK, not end combat as people who use vedaras' "tutorial" were taught. I didn't even learn OF FixBoy until after I quit. My brother, who I joined with and dubbed me A Traitor for quitting, only discoverd FixBoy by accident himself.

Well, whenever I ran into difficulties, I'd first try to figure it out by myself through trial and error (because that's where all the fun is). In case I couldn't, I would then advise the FOnline 2238 wiki. I believe it has almost every piece of information about everything you'll ever need. From items/weapons/drugs/factions/locations/special encounters/vehicles/PC builds/NPCs/quests/crafting requirements/farming/commands, to some "WhiteRa speshul tactics" when dealing with the harsh wasteland environment or PKs. Guys really did a great job on that, and everything is explained step by step; ESPECIALLY for beginners.

All you had to do was google "FOnline 2238"...
http://fo2238.fodev.net/wiki/Main_Page (http://fo2238.fodev.net/wiki/Main_Page)

or just advise any of the forum members on the "Questions and Answers" thread for any specific questions you might have.
http://fodev.net/forum/index.php/topic,18127.0.html (http://fodev.net/forum/index.php/topic,18127.0.html)

Don't blame the game mechanics or the players thanks to whom it is even more diverse and interesting for overlooking any of these sources.

Developers, GMs, i know i have not been always a grateful player.

Nevertheless, the game you made me obsessed with (and which i enjoyed most of the time) was for a while a part of my life. I cheered for uptimes of servers, new features and of course wipes, but also raged on forums.

Wipes... Now i see the clock ticking away and painfully realise, that the game won't be there.

Anyway, i think it's a time for all of us for a new start. I want to thank you for all what you have done to us. Updates, feedback, support and of course patience and reasonable matter of speech.

For all what you have done and what i forgot to mention, Thank You. You're legends now.

Da wastelands is harsh. The community killed this game, you can even see it on this forum. They are nasty and mean to new players. The players who could have paid the bills. When I started there were people who would even act like they were helping teach you to learn the game and would lure you out and kill you. Duh wastelands is... gone! I actually donated $20 and made a post saying why I quit when I did, I got the expected replies that nobody cared if I quit and duh wastelands is harsh. You have only yourselves to blame no matter how you try to spin it chasing off new players choked your game to death.

Are you even serious? ... Jovanka and Samira alone have accumulated enough negative audience to kill three indie game communities, parley...

I mist have missed a few things, because I experienced Jovanka's part in 2238 as a great pleasure. More frequent evens, more activity on forum and just a general sense of devotion. Also, I understans she made the Ghost Town map possible, which has been a great help in easing the pain of this terrible loss we are facing.

If there was a server with just Ghost Town and hinkley type combat, I'd definately have a renewed interest in playing indefitately.

I thank everyone for the time I got to spend here. Good friends I made, some enemies gained: thank you for the Enzotainment.

You know, I was looking for a Fallout 1(2) online interpretation for a long time, and when I found it and the server and I've started putting in some work, the server closes. That's bullshit. So much time was wasted to get these materials for the hideout. Was hoping me and my team would take over some place one day, but no. Now I have to go to TLA MK II, and, if to be honest, I'm assured it will be worse than this server. At least my GTA:SA:MP experience states so.

It was fun. So sad it's closing. Well, see you on the net one day.

+100 to that
IMHO the most fun season was the one just before the update that has introduced helmets and new perk system.
Rest went downhill after that.

It's really sad that is over now but I still have a lot interesting screenshots / videos so FOnline 2238 will always stay in my memory as the best server out there!

I wanna thank each and every developer, GM and all guys who were helping with keeping server on (testers, donors etc), also wanna say big thank you to people with who I played, you mostly know who you are, It was an long epic journey all those long nights doing TC, ragging over some stupid bullshit, lvling up, trolling around, having awesome time on mumble/TS with some hardcore accents :D and MUCH MORE!

For my last line here; I really enjoyed playing on 2238 It was simply the best! I'm still in contact with guys with who I played (mostly) for all others hope to see you all on IRC! (I hope it will stay online? )

Farewell!

I never played a game that was so time consuming, but yet somehow enjoyable on so many different levels. :)
It could have been so much more. Sad to see it go.
Thanks for an interesting year on this server with all its assholes and goody-2-shoes, its endless grinding, its quests, its lags, its full-loot policy, its total lawlessness, its idlers and its events.

As a goodbye to FOnline: 2238 I'd like to share the result of my last grinding action ever on this server –
1 random desert map, 2610 glowy beer bottles, 5,5 hours time wasted, 6 screenshots knit together in PS:
(For full size view you'll have to go on the host site, enhancing it in the forum makes it look blurry somehow.

And no. I am not aroused. This "end game" party happened before in other online video games I've played, and they would instead do a massive update or reset the version of the game and not shut down the game. That's what I'm guessing, can't be for sure.

What was chance of getting cookie in Gunrunners case? Was getting epic weapons possible? (One man was pretty sure of that you can get for example Bozar in one of them.)

Was there any "special" places to find for example Police Car or Motobike?

What was in Stranded Ship quest Case? I never managed to open it.

Have we missed any secret stashes in city maps? Was my Plasma Torch and Power Armor in storage room the only stuff that was hidden?

Title: Re: The End

It depends on your reputation with the Gunrunners. After x reputation, the box content changes. Of course, it depends on the reputation of the guy who got the box. If you find a box, it can include whatever other content, based on the reputation of the guy who got the box handed over.

/edit: I just checked the script. With a reputation between 800 and 900, there is a chance of 1/5 to get a Vindicator. If you fail the random roll, a Minigun will be in the box. A reputation > 900 means randomly Vindicator, Bozar or Avenger.

2238 is not just PvP sigh gems like this cases thing is what makes this game interesting for non PvPers.

Edit: Thanks for revealing this feature. What about the Stranded Ship one? Was it ever supposed to be opened? When i tried to use lockpick on it i was always getting some kind of error - not clear "sorry bro there is no such option" but something weird.

Wow, 1/5th chance to get a vindicator through doing that, that would've been fun.

Well, while were on the topic of game mechanics that have no point to be a secret anymore...

Can a dev please list the things that Luck affects? For example, does it have any affect in finding types of encounters (not talking about special).

Can a dev list the special things that can be randomly found on cave floors? Is it still possible to find the dead bluesuit with ~300 caps in it (I found this one in 2010, haven't found it since)?

I would like to know if there is something rare (armor? weapon? anything?) inside Vault City underground facility, has anybody scouted there? Is it possible to get inside peacefully?
I'm pretty sure a faction got into that some session ago, and there was nothing there. No it's not possible through peaceful measures as far as I can tell/remember. Though I guess this doesn't answer your question because it very well could've changed.

Dishonest Abe, I think listing all things that luck affects would be a lot of work.

Stuff in caves - every item you can find there requires some minimal luck to have a chance to spawn (most things require luck >= 1 or 3). Most of the items which can be found in caves are not worth listing. From interesting things which can't be obtained in any other way there is louisville slugger (luck >= 5) and access card (luck >= 1). Dead bluesuit sounds like some GM prank or a player.

From strange little things you might not know about -

- Beside normal items lost in encounters, there is a small chance to find a gold tooth or a decomposing body when digging a grave. There is only one gold tooth in the server now, so I suppose the chance was a bit too low.

- You can use folded tent right away in the "A tent in the wasteland" quest location after the family leaves, which will give you tent with a large tree.

- Try fixing town well in Adytum instead of water pump after taking quest, Montag will comment it. It was added after a player reported "broken quest" - it turned out he was trying to fix the town well instead of water pump.

So... The End.

I thought I had 1 more day, but I was not taking Time Zones into account.

Still not enough to finish emptying the bases and tents, but I got close.

I should have spent those 2 weeks doing nothing but bomb-making.
Hopefully this time the bombs wont be nerfed vs. WM arming.
Last time it made the whole thing into a BG-only game.

Too tired to make WM messages with tents.

Perhaps the devs could just spell some things out with lines of locations.

"Fonline2238 RIP", etc.

Actually, I think it was a skeleton inv in the far back of the cave (as in, the skeleton that's at v13) and I'm pretty sure it wasn't spawned there by some GM... watching... me, especially with the seemingly random number of caps in it, but it's fine, probably would need to ask whoever first made the code if it was important.

Was the "Ghost" in Hub some kind of deves prank? Or maybe this had some hidden function?
If that's about transparent npc(s), that was abuse trick by one of GMs. From technical point of view, it was a normal blocker item, (with blocking flag unset?), and with graphic changed to same as used by characters (there's also explanation why they was facing north-east; command which allowed to set custom graphic, didn't had option to set which directon should be used for item, so it always was set to 0, which engine takes for NE set). Transparency was "discovered" by accident, by playing with item color settings, which had to be set in raw form (RGB packed (https://xp-dev.com/sc/76003/HEAD/%2FServer%2Fscripts%2F_colors.fos#line5) into one long number).

Sorry if this has been asked already, but when specifically is the shutdown event starting, around 4pm (16:00) CET or so? I'm in US EST and I plan on trying to attend.

The counter is wrong unless you live in the timezone of the server (CEST/UTC+2).
The server will end tomorrow in late evening hours, maybe around midnight, maybe a bit earlier.

Alright then, so according to this site

http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/converted.html?iso=20130623T13&p1=43&p2=262

I could get on around 1pm EST and it will be 7pm CEST, and 6pm my time would be midnight in Warsaw. I just really want to make sure I don't miss all the final goodbyes and whatnot.

Hello everyone!! or should i say goodbye=( Its Uhura by the way. I haven't been on for quite a while but when i heard about "the end" i had to come say a final farewell to everyone who made my fonline experience one to remember ! each individual knows the special adventures we shared and the memories we made. I want to thank a few of them =) Thank you Nic Irons, for being my first friend on fonline (besides ofc, my brother Gimper ;) and im sorry that i never sent you my files so you could stop being blind lol *wink wink*. to Kitty, for being my sister and friend. To Janet, for being an amazing sis and friend and for trusting me with secret alts xD For Mr. Oddjob, waltzing into NCR and sweeping me off my feet one day with this convo:
Oddjob: "Uhura hun, how are you doing today?"
Me: "uhmm, fine, but do i know you?"
Oddjob: " you do now;)"
lol thanks Tarzan, for the memories<3
and to Fear , for the one ":)" i finally got from him and was actually able to screenshot. thanks to Cari, for trusting me with a secret and becoming more than just more "pixels on a screen" :p it was fun while it lasted. To Gr1m for introducing me to Parov Stelar ;) To Grizzan for becoming my buddy and me becoming "his girl" for one day in ncr before i left lol. Thanks to "Aigis" for that short period being my "girl friend" lol and to Steve for making some pretty long lasting memories. Oh and i must thank Whore-igan for all his insults that somehow actually made us friends lol. a big thanks to Doc Abortion, for all that lovely rape and those insults that made me wanna choke you lol, love you Doc. thanks to Dope and friends for always giving me a reason to insult them....even though i secretly thought they were funny.../e is ashamed, oh and thanks ahead of time for all the trollish comments this is going to get from you...and to my "bebe deathclaw" and all my "doggehs" lol
now on a more serious note, Lost Soul, you dirty dog you. Im glad that after all my hard work of trying to be nice to you to show you that i wasnt like Gimper, you finally decided to be friends, even outside the game lol.
Now the most special thanks to Nomad and his brothers=) you guys became more like a family to me, and im so glad for the friendship that came out of it. Pitcher, thanks for all of those bursts in NCR because you didnt like mine and steves roleplay xD thanks for the sneaker build that i never got to use =( Voron, thanks for sooooooo many laughs and /e spanks from certain captains. "Lt. Uhura! bring me my coffee!" lol love you and im sorry we never hunted </3. and now Nomad, where do i start. Do i start at Scotty? or do i start at your chivalrous act of killing my brother he insulted me and you didnt know who he was (lol)? or do i start at all of our amazing adventures and talks that brought us closer ? i dont know where to begin so i wont try. I'll just say thanks for your trust and loyalty and most of all a friendship that wont go away just because a game does. love you ^^

I was meant to never return to this game anyway (its because every MMO RPG is dangerous, lol, i always play too much and study too little), but i had great time here when i was playing this game, thanks to you Devs. :) thank you. i feel that nothing lasts forever, always feeling like i can go back everytime i want, and now i wont be able (even though i didnt planned to go back as i wrote) and its weird feeling. Overall, it was first game from long long time (since i was kid and playing Diablo II with my cheeks red, haha :D) that burned that gamer flame in me for few months (i remember how much free time i had and about 70% of it i used to play this game, often two decimal numbers hours of playing :D). thanks to you i felt like a kid again, it was amaizing.

I was playing since august 2010-2011 (it was really so long ago?), with 22minutes cooldown crafting and stuff. bought outpost and made Crazy88, weak faction then, but then i stopped playing for a while, LeonTheNorse took leadership and made it a big machine. it was nice time of my life, even though it was totally nerdy time :D

You, Devs, are closing some moment in history of many of us, more or less important, but we made some kind of community. You're leaving this game since few months already and probably not much interested in long time what's going on here, but: good luck at your new projects, dreams and purposes. there'll always be whiners, but dogs will always bark, and let the caravan to go it way, always!:)) huge high-five for what you did here. piece of great work. :))

R.I.P. 2238! See the remnants of the 2238 Army on TLA maybe! ;)

A scary dust ghost spotted in the Hub! Ahhhhh!

I never wanted to tell but I can admit it now that the game ends anyway, I was Dawg, the dog that ran through ncr with his 7 dog pack  :). Had a lot of fun with that concept character.. sadly I deleted him with all the others when I left the last time..
ahbogsaget turned me into a dog after I asked nicely, the only time I ever asked something from a GM. And then he spawned away from the Hub with me and left that foggy thing...
I was always wondering what it was...

The chance of this happening is very, very slim... but if anyone here ever has the chance to contribute to the development some commercial game, you should definitely have some sort of easter egg in it somewhere that says "RIP 2238" or something along those lines.  ;)

Can a dev list the special things that can be randomly found on cave floors? Is it still possible to find the dead bluesuit with ~300 caps in it (I found this one in 2010, haven't found it since)?
My RAM is still blurry, bit I think this was among the first random spawn cave loot in the scripts. It was obviously changed soon after had been introduced, in one or another "adjustment" commit. It could have been - most probably - some time around 2010.

Thanks to everyone who participated in this in any way over the years. Some excellent work has been done using what could sometimes be quite a challenging engine. It's been fun, and I've met some great people through here, some of whom I would now consider to be friends.

To any dev/mapmaker/modder etc who was ever involved - I hope you continue to work in game related modding and wish you luck with your future projects. I'm glad to see plans for keeping the forums up for SDK development, and I'd personally love to see some more single-player adventures using this engine.

Also, I'm still up for trying to finish the 3D stuff off, for any future FOnline projects that may want it.

I was wondering what should I post in this thread, there is lots things to say...

It was great time, and it was quite a long ride. I wasn't able to give as much time to this project as I'd like to (or as much as it was required to make certain things right) - the last four years were quite busy years, I've transformed from jobless Rotator into working Rotator and then father.

Nonetheless I've learnt lots of things about developing such projects (what else make you learn this much if not mistakes), I know much more about what's needed to have better developing experience with FOnline engine and I'd like to use this knowledge to do some improvements - for greater good of all projects, as I'm guessing lots of people are struggling with the same things we've struggled.

You may not remember me from game or from gameplay discussion and consideration - this was not my strongest area of expertise, but I hope to use my skills at the very 'core'.

Farewell and thanks for playing!!!

"This is the end
Beautiful friend
This is the end
My only friend, the end

Of our elaborate plans, the end
Of everything that stands, the end
No safety or surprise, the end
I'll never look into your eyes...again

Can you picture what will be
So limitless and free
Desperately in need...of some...stranger's hand
In a...desperate land"

ok, here is maybe my final post on this forum. (if it's not the last, i'll still stick around here to receive PMs and post in the off-topic section or whatever.)

i would like to say farewell to everyone who helped bring this project to life. the trolls, the developers, the noobs, the people that donated.

also would like to thank the people that rolled with me in the wasteland or tried to kill me or simply made the game more interesting to play. would like to thank racoon, daryl, jotisz, edwood, rain, frank (previous era mate), cyber jesus, stalker, KILLNDIE, enzotainment, Vile, kitty, nomad/pitcher/voron, Dark. etc. would also like to thank anyone who i haven't mentioned here, they know who they are.

i really hope you guys weren't retarded enough to take my trolling as something personal. it was just a role i assumed this season. like the role of white knight that i had previous era.

sadly the recent changes made it harder for me to play the game, because of both real-life issues and the fact that i got bored with the game, but lately i took the time to have lots of fun pvp-ing in ghost town.

even though some changes to the game have been complete fuck-ups, i won't blame anyone and point any fingers. everything has its end and people make mistakes. life moves on.

i won't be playing TLAmk2 any time sooner. i don't have the time i used to have to play video games so don't bug me to play it.

i respect all the people who worked on this game. they brought my favorite game of all times to life and the atmosphere of such MMO was unique, that's why i'm a little sad it's going away.
atmosphere of this game was a pure gem. constant grieving, trolling, robbing, backstabbing and the overall human interaction brought this post-apocalyptic atmosphere to life like no other game imo.

farewell, 2238 community. i hope i will be able to keep in touch with most of ya folks!

This last day remainded me of all people I knew, meet, all factions I been thrughth, started in game all alone, shoveled shit, reading wiki, after a month  I joined balkan faction "The modoc Throws" which played under wing of Cajuns, then that faction died, I have been alone again I joined up with some loners lensy jabaka, and penelopa, they were awesome polish guys with them I joined in section8, where I was some time. Then there was big recrutment for "The north bandits" friend Marko called me there it was quite big alliance and very well organised Rogues, RDA, Amboys, they had all the towns non stop for long period of time, then that fallen apart dont remember why. And I was alone again :) , I was doing alone reno action, while I meet faction DoW they were great guys but they were in low numbers, they were allies and good friends with hawks, after that I joined directly to hawks, best guys I ever known, and I played wtih them till they didnt leave this server.
Somewhere along the road I made such a great freinds like Marko, White Eeagle, Intruders, Oliver, Muchamor, DocSpad, Gr1m, Reese, Vedaras, McDoctor, Glumer, Mouse, SSakul, Kelin and many others I didnt mentioned right now because list would be too long.
They ones who made this adventure really worth.

After seeing so me only people and friends and people I know at last day of fonline2238, in reminded me at one song lyrics

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oa-ae6_okmg

All around me are familiar faces
worn out places
worn out faces

No tomorrow, no tomorrow

And I find it kind of funny
I find it kind of sad
The dreams in which I'm dying
Are the best I've ever had

My RAM is still blurry, bit I think this was among the first random spawn cave loot in the scripts. It was obviously changed soon after had been introduced, in one or another "adjustment" commit. It could have been - most probably - some time around 2010.
That sounds right, good to know my memory isn't too messed up. Thanks for the explanation, really.

Ive played on and off since 2009 and i have always kept up with all the updates and small changes. I will never forget my first log on back in aug 2009. Although the lag was terrbile and the server crashes made the game almost unplayable there was a magic. The online experience truly gave life back to fallout. The efforts made by everyone who worked on this game was incredible. Men and women dedicating their time and lives for free to create something they were passionate about. My experience with fonline 2238 will always be remembered. Thanks to everyone who put their time and effort into this project, and thanks to all those i encountered in game who helped create those priceless moments. Heres to hoping this isnt an end, but a break and that one day we will see the server return.

So, it's really dead...

The server ended as we predicted, not enough players to go around.

I really don't know what to say. I've met a number of interesting players throughout my time here, and many good times were had aswell. Such as the Redding roleplay projects, which were fun while they lasted (expecially the part with a few of us planting dynamite on eachother lololol).

- Thanks to the friends i've met here, some of which that wouldn't even know that we've met.
(A downside of  having a few dozen alts, see.)
- Thanks also to the good many from The Last Light whom were also able to tolerate me.  ;)

I'd like to also thank the 2238 team and all its other players (theives, trolls and idlers included) for making FOnline 2238 a unique experience. Something we may never see again.

I shall remain here for awhile, though we may meet on other FOnline servers.

So it happend... 2238 took it last breath. It was a nice time. Sadly, in recent months my free time was very limited like is with most of us. We're just gettin' older. Anyway as I said it was a nice time, full of adventures and post-nuclear atmosphere. Thanks to the development team and donnors to keep this game running, game masters for abuses and some wonderful events I had a pleasure to participate in, and players of course. It wouldn't be same FOnline without most of you. Especially I'd like to thanks: KTTDestroyer, Ketur, Balio, Glumer, chamo, Cryofluid, Kelin, Wichura, Tomowolf, John Metzger, Leon the Norse, Larry Rotgut, Duna, JovankaB, Fear, Ghosty and many many others I had this luck to meet and very special thanks for person with name Gaijin in 2010 for showing me the game basics when I was playing first time!

You can meet me in TLA Mk2 from time to time. But don't expect harsh actions! I've always been a Mad Max wannabie. ;)

I enjoyed this game so much, that when I was bored, or felt depressed, I would switch to this game and I'll have a blast for hours! It breaks my heart to see FOnline: 2238, a game that is a masterpiece, to be shutting down. I'll have to settle in a new home, maybe Requiem? TLA MK2? I'm not sure, but I'll know that FOnline: 2238 will remain a legend on the top of my head, and I'll think back memories that made me happy!
