Title: Changelog 30/10/2012
Post by: JovankaB on October 30, 2012, 08:45:39 pm
FIXES:
- Fixed issue with mobs waiting 30 seconds in turn based mode if enemy is behind door they can't open (e.g. in various quests).
- Fixed NPC in Unity encounters who was carrying rocket explosions instead of explosive rockets.

FEATURES:
- New special encounter with rare vehicles: truck, firetruck, police car, motorbike (the type of the car is picked randomly).

CHANGES (WIP):
- In turn based mode the characters of players who disconnected end turn automatically at the beginning of their turn.
- Introducing headgear perks, currently used for non-armor headgear (mirrored shades, goggles and ball gag can't be obtained outside events yet):
- Some helmets/headgear items prevent using edible/inhaled drugs. It includes: Metal Masks (both versions), Power Helmet, Hardened Power Helmet, Advance Power Armor Helmet (both versions). Drugs which can be used while wearing them: Stimpak, Super Stimpak, Psycho, RadAway.

EXTRA NOTES:
- Run the updater to obtain the new files.

Very nice! Also good job fixing the AI with the doors. Mirrored shades sound useful.

But I must agree with the others, the thing with the helmets is rather pointless.

The updater seems to do nothing when I try to update.  It just hangs on "initializing...".  I don't quite know what updaterconsole.exe file is, but when I run it is says "invalid configuration".

Anybody have any ideas as to how i can go about updating game so I can get back to playing?

What does this bring to the gameplay? Really, its just a an inconvenience for those using those kinds of armor. It's not likely that someone will attack them in the head while they are taking their drugs (once per half an hour).

Btw. The firetruck is a portable waterpipe. You can fill the truck up with water and drive away- then use it whenever you need. Not *that* useful right now, but might become in future.

  • Spectacles (eye glasses): add +3, +2 and +1 bonus to Perception for characters with respectively 1, 2 and 3 Perception.
  • Mirrored Shades: add +1 bonus to Charisma.
  • Goggles: protect character from being shot in eyes (eye shots are changed to head shots).
  • Ball Gag: affects every sentence said (applies to player characters only, subject to change).
Can we get a list where to get them? I want to wear mirrored shades

Why, it still makes the firetruck the most useful vehicle, because it can fuel up brahmin carts, basically extending their loadspace due to less waterbags.

Anyone got one of the new vehicles yet, I'd like to know things about them, like is the motorcycle very fast, does it hold 2?  How much storage does the utility truck have, hopefully more than say the Highwayman and Hummer?

Also is this 'special encounter' actually something that can randomly happen anywhere so that those of us who are habitually unlucky have a chance at finding it, or is it like the rest where it's only within 3 zones of a certain area?

You can take SSs with any helmet because they aren't ingested. Read changelog again carefully.

Also "some helmets" in practice means only metal mask, so don't make this change a bigger deal than it really is.

You CAN take ss with metal mask. You have some problems with reading.
Things you can't take with metal mask on your face include things that you eat or inhale.

Fallout 1 and 2 RadAway item picture and the RadAway addiction perk picture clearly show that it's intravenous drug. I don't know why Fallout 3 developers thought the solution bag and catheter is some kind of soda with drinking straw.

Ugh I hate Australia. Strictest gaming laws so everyone makes their games to that standard so they can ship anywhere without having to make multiple versions. You'd think the descendants of criminals wouldn't be so uptight.

Not enough roleplay- encouraging features in it. That's what he surely meant.

They arnt that strict anymore, the last game to be affected by censorship, was soldier of fortune 2 (Blowing arms and legs off) Before that the only other game our laws runied was duke nukem3d (god that pissed me off) only games i can think of in australia that got censored.

If the laws were that bad games like Gears of war or silent hill 2 would never have made it to our shores.

I think you must read the thread again, that's all what we have about new vehicles. They can be found in special encounters, firetruck is a mobile water source, truck has huge loadspace and fuel consumption.

I tagged also repair for my eyebot char, just in case they stand around in very mint condition.

This an ok update nothing special. Like the car idea don't really think some drugs not consumable in metal mask was really all that necessary.

Still waiting for that update for advance chemical components to be added in the game so I can make use of these worthless drug blue prints.

This was completely not needed and any "realism" excuse in a game where people run around shooting their plasma rifles and miniguns is kinda funny.

Other than that, the update seems good. Gratz.

Yeah but nothing on the Motorbike, or if these encounters are localized around certain area or if they can be hit anywhere on the world map.  (No I don't want to be told WHERE that certain area is, but if it is just like the other 'random special encounters' then it's not gonna be as big a deal as I had hoped.)

Let me fix that for you:
"Two viable helmets were just too much and people were getting confused about choosing their headgear, so we took one out for your convenience."

Oh, and when it comes to realism, you can always slide your mask to the forehead. You know, just like thousands of paintballers do between the matches. It takes a second to rise it so that you can reach your mouth - guess how much does toying with your inventory take? Unrealistic and bad for gameplay... so yeah, it's bad.

- In turn based mode the characters of players who disconnected end turn automatically at the beginning of their turn.

Damn. Now, when connexion will be unstable, i won't even be able to switch on TB without losing turns... :-[

- New special encounter with rare vehicles: truck, firetruck, police car, motorbike (the type of the car is picked randomly).

This Game is gold :D :D

Thanks devs. :-* Thanks dev :-*

I think if you want to role play take off your metal mask to eat food, smoke cigarettes and inhale drugs there is no problem with that but do not think it should be applied to everybody. Not everybody seeks roleplaying and realism in this game. There is a PvP community who really don't see the need to remove helmet when most of the time drugs are taken on world map before entering a town. Just an uncessary step. But I guess PvPers don't need all the love ;d we got our ac and heavy hand nerfs finally so I guess this is a roleplayer update.

Its not a huge deal and not anything to get mad over but that is my honest opinion about it.

With this realism, I guess they need to take off Power Armor to inject a stimpack ;)

Edit; infact, Enclave uses Stimpacks, right? Or I atleast belive I looted some in Fallout 2. I belive they would be smart enough to invent some small hole in their suit to inject stimpacks.

Oh my god!
Every 30 minutes (or 1 hour with chem reliant) we have to remove our helmet.
This game is soooo hard now!

Everybody is whining about that, but in fact that won't change much things.
Title: Re: Changelog 30/10/2012

In fact, if the helmet feature is not related to stimpack and only half of the armors, i don't see the point of it.

Make the Glow more difficult ? 5% of players must go there, now that we have Arès...

It add one step on the process of taking drugs, but won't change gameplay, by making things harder or easyier.
Why implementing it on the first place ?
(i am not arguing agains't it as we had great features recently. But i don't see the point of this one)

But, am i reading features related to power armors ? Are they usable ?

It works both ways, we could presume there is a "hole" for metal masks.

This change doesn't make sense.

Me.

I think you are doing this for your own amusement. I just don't believe you can come up with such an irrational change and you want to see what is the response, it might be amusing, funny how much big of a deal players make out of this change. I might be wrong only in case you failed at basic logical thought process, because it seems there is none. Or it was done by selfish reasons and you implemented it because you thought it would be fine for you, did you think about others? It can't be bad judgment, can it?

Let me elaborate so you don't feel offended and my post to make some sort of reason out of all that.

One by one, changes make what is 2238, let them be small in this case, but in the end it all adds up and we, the players get to be play the game and we are counting on you to make reasonable decisions, changes that are necessary and allows further progress so the game would just get better. In this case it isn't the case of such changes, it just a mere inconvenience.

Solar might have not thought that removing Armor Class cap is going to be a big deal, or that Silent Death is going to be so powerful, as well heavy handed. Or the guy who put values that are responsible for the amount of stuff spawned in TC box, some numbers most probably just a guess and it happens to be a bad one. Now we have the situation that some items are pretty much unlimited for factions that have done TC. The game really does become less interesting when you have certain items in quantities that normally wouldn't be even possible to obtain, feels like cheating, or even worse that the game is just purely broken. The reason why Wipe as an event seems very compelling, as it would fix the damage done, but that is a completely different story.

All that was just not well thought through, like current Metal Mask change. It's not a big deal by itself, but as i said such changes sums up together and in the end makes the impression, quality of the game players experience. It's just a game, but come on you are tagged as a "Developer" of it, have a little bit more sense of responsibility if you do decide to do something.

So, if you really want to make 2238 a better game for everyone, you will remove that inconvenience.

It's up to you, whether you do the change it depends, in that case it will indicate that you listen to the community and come forward to our small community, witch by the fact is getting is smaller. If you do give just a little bit of shit about that. If not, then Okay.

Nothing more and nothing less.

Yeah now if we can just get a answer about whether or not the new 'special' encounters for the vehicles is stuck to an area like all the others, or truly random and can pop up similar to footlockers only more maps?

My eyebots are scanning the Wasteland for this particular area, since when it's revealed, it will be crowded with car farmers, just like with Gauss Pistols.

I hope these encounters will be anywhere in the wasteland.
So anyone would have chances to get them, not only those who stick in the same grid for entire days...

I sure hope it's open to the whole wasteland, or at least certain 'types' of maps like the locker system because you're soo right if it's a fixed area then it's just gonna be farmed to death.

None of the special encounters is fixed anymore since a few patches. They also aren't one time only now. In the same time, we changed chance for finding them and some other stuff if I remember correct, so they become more special encounters and less generic farmery encounters.

So good to hear that.

P.S.: Are there any requirements? Like level,SPECIAL or something like that? Or just real life luck?

I don't think we should give away details about mechanics of treasure locations.

Same.
As much as I would like to get encounter like that, I still belive I'd be far happier if I stumbled upon it completly randomly, than going on map around in 4 blocks where I heard they are.

If it can be found everywhere on WM, then no need for it. But if it is in some area, like the Gauss Pistol was, then you should give us a hint. (If the latter is true i think it would be better to make it a quest or riddle of some sort. Its better than farming in 4 squares.)

I was wondering, why i never found a special encounter and some found it many times. Then someone told me, that i need to search in specific location.

I know, that by revealing mechanics you can spoil the game. But on the other hand, player should have a way of determining whether he has a chance to succeed or not. Whether something is good for what he wants to achieve or not.

For example im still not sure, whether the chance to encounter something is affected by outdoorsman and outdoorsman related perks which increase WM speed or not. I think there is a roll performed on every step (red dot on WM) whether there will be encounter or not on that spot.

Is the location you can find the vehicles on different every time, like, e.g. fire department, National Guard bunker, police station, biker bar? Or is it just every time the same parking lot/city street?

For now it's the same location. In the future each car may have it's own special encounter.

Jovanka you're the BOMB, so are the rest of the devs.  I'm soo glad they're no longer fixed that was always sort of a bummer cause you're right Jovanka they should just be sat on and farmed that defeats the point.  This rocks, now I feel like I can actually FIND something fun while I'm out traveling doing other things, rather than having to just sit in one area, or not bother at all.  Amazing update.  Still kinda Curious about the motorbike if it's fast or 2 person, I doubt it has any storage lol.  Thanks a Million you guys!

The motorcycle holds 2 persons. The trunk is quite small, but the vehicle has good speed on all terrain.

We are probably tweaking the general vehicle stats in future updates, depending on what feels good / bad. So don't take the current values (fuel consumption, speed, etc) as final.
