Title: Attempt to create new weapon (work in progress)

My basic idea is to create Completely new type of weapon which would be alternative to Gauss rifle
So i started work on some detail here is one of many parts of this weapon :) i work in blender to make pre rendered  image of item (high poly) but for low poly i use .3ds format 3d coming soon whit completed weapon and parts for craft.
for now here is coil essential part of weapon

Back story of weapon-vault 0 top secret research on magnetic projectiles an magnetism as weapon. weapon has incredible penetration but low damage main purpose of research was to create weapon who cloud penetrate enemy armored vehicle essential parts like engines and ammo wrack.But because of war weapon never built. Blueprints was found by scavenger in old vault research laboratory and later sold to Brotherhood of steal. In secrecy brotherhood continue research of this new type of technology 8)

1. Texture looks good, now needs it in lowpoly. Try to retopo this thing. :)
2. Backstory: Gauss IS a (electro)magnetic rifle. Also, "because of war this weapon was never built" isn't a excuse. In war, everyone funds weapons, especially promising ones.
3. "Completely new type of weapon" isn't gonna happen until all original weapons are modeled.

I'am not saying i will create new weapon :) its attempt to create i don't care about if this weapon will be in game or not i just enjoy to create something nice and its really good way to practice my 3d modeling and texturing skills :P

Hmm....

Looks very interesting. - Mostle, cause something like this would be wonderfull as an icon in inventory. There are a lot of things that lack the icons, also any new armor, mask, helmet, weapon will need one.

You, dear Sir, could help our case greatly. On the other hand im not sure if theres a point in modelling something in high poly just for the icon. Doesnt change the fact it would look wonderfull if every item had apropriate icon :>

Heh, this looks pretty cool :) Though I'm pretty sure, that we wouldn't add a new weapons right after 3D implementing. Maybe later, when everything is properly working and balanced ... On the other hand, we still need quite a lot of the armors to be done, so if you'll help with it, it would be a great help. The only thing, is that you have to keep models low poly, while this nice example is definetely over 2000 tris.

High-poly is really awesome and falloutish, but the low-poly looks not so good for such number of polygons. Looks like you have to work with optimization and maybe improve some parts' LOD.

Jea this means i didn't get wrong whit design :)

low polygons give me headache and texturing is nightmare :'( i really need to learn more of texturing to improve my low poly  graphical quality!

Really well done Coilgun.
For the backstory: reminds me alot of some weapon-armor that was going to appear in Fallout 3 (Black Isle one, codenamed Van Buren).
Science-oriented chars could complete them, by starting from the uncomplete blueprints.

Well, the end-game location, where the Prisoner (PC) confronts Doctor Presper (Villain), Is B.O.M.B.-001, a nuclear launch platform in orbit around Earth. Yes, sound a bit like Starcraft, but that was how the game was going to end.

Obsidian has put in NV a plenty of ideas that were about to appear in VanBuren, including the Y-17 Trauma Override Harness (http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Y-17_Trauma_override_harness), which, i guess was in the concept of Boulder Dome. (http://images.wikia.com/fallout/images/6/64/Dome.jpg)
These poor fuckers in suits look pretty dead to me, yet... Looking them waddle to you would be a spooky sight.

Well, lotsa contenent had been stoled from Fallout 3. The most obivious one is the Ceasar's Legion. The main difference is that in Fallout 3 it was in creation fase, trying to unificate various tribes (as far i've understood) and, dependin' on player actions, become the terrible legion that in NV curses the Mojave, or be destroyed.
However, since the Boulder Dome was one of the thing that were completed, atleast in design documents, it had been totally stolen, and placed into Old World Blues(along with many references to the Fallout's father, Wasteland). Still the suit in concepts remind me more of the Hazmat Suit of Dead Money, or some other kind of suit used for reserch in irradiated or poisoned areas. The Y-17 Trauma Override Harness seems more the Space Suit from NV, found in the REPPCON testing site.

Well, that blueprint only needs some shitty numbers around, some useless arrows point at various points, write something like Coil, Magazine Slot, Trigger, Internal Energy Cell, Iron Sight Improved for MK2, i think you understood.
Keep workin' on that, cannot wait to see how it will come out!

Very nice, it's getting better and better!
For the blueprint, reduce the brightness in the middle a small bit, it'll look better then. Other than that, I like it. :)

Really good! :) Now give it some unique name, a nice little description and here we are, makeshift Gauss rifle!

Add some rust and small crackles etc to the rifle to give it the painted over-feel all the original Fallout art has. Preferrably done in Photoshop or GIMP etc.

As it is now it's completly useless weapon. Trigger is way too small, but well, problem is with this kind of design you wouldn't be capable of ever aiming with this stuff.
Hopefuly further versions will fix the problem of stock and grip being way too low for barrel and add more aiming possibilities than just one laser diode.

Other than that it looks fine, but not really sure if it's in line with fallout art :d

I like what you've done here, but still it lacks something, in my opinion the main gun wooden placement should be more deeply mounted within the bullet aceleration upper module, it looks like very hard to hit target with that kind of gun build displacement, the barrel is kinda strange, try to make some iron support that connects the wooden part to 3/4 of it. Like this:
