Title: Gecko Model
Post by: zamp on June 04, 2011, 03:00:33 am
Alright, posted a new topic since I need to get feedback when I make the animations. This'll be the easiest way for me to keep track of the model and what needs to be done etc.

Right.. Without further ado... I give you the GECKO! :P

hehe, looks good Zamp.
Only two issues, Geckos do not have protruding ears. All species also have recognizable pointed head.

Only two issues, Geckos do not have protruding ears. All species also have recognizable pointed head.

And neither one of these points make any difference since the gecko is straight from fallout sprite and a bit influenced by fallout new vegas.
Edit 1: Hmm.. Didn't really notice the tiny "beak"
Used that as a reference.

Looks like the head is a bit pointy. Quick fix tho :)

Thanks for the critique

Edit 2:
There we go, I only updated the bite gif though.

Nice animation, however, during the runnung sequence, his shoulders are pointy. And if it's Blender, play with IPO curves a bit to make him rip a piece out with a more jerking move.

Keep 'em going man, you're a fine animator!

Thanks for the input. I was thinking of lowering the arms myself too :)
Fixed that.
Btw. This is my first 3D animation ever :)

TODO:

Golden and fire gecko have a bit different models (not only scale and texture).
More animations:
Dodge
Take Damage
Death (forward & back)
Attack (hand)
Walk
? (Cant remember all of the animations needed for a critter, lemme know which ones im missing)
Claw attack
A lots of rip animations (zap, burning, crit from burst, crit from single shot, laser cut, plasma melt etc. etc.)

Also running animation have something odd... Feets should move a bit, now it looks like running diver.

Yeah I noticed that. I'll have to make the fire gecko from this when this one is 100% complete (All I need to change is model/skin and we're good to go).

A lots of rip animations (zap, burning, crit from burst, crit from single shot, laser cut, plasma melt etc. etc.)
I have no idea how to do these. Maybe I could do that crit burst where a part of the gecko dissappears with scaling down all bones above. I actually PMed someone and asked about this very thing.

Also running animation have something odd... Feets should move a bit, now it looks like running diver.

That's just the perspective.

As far as I understand from Gray, they should use the 2D animation.

Why?.. I made that as a test.

Add some particle effects for blood and gibs and you're good to go

well, about the burst from front, there are 2 types, the one animated(where you rip the shit out od the head and arm) and a bullet filled one(nothing out, but you are filled with bullets in the torso)

OK Haraldx. Yup those cant be done with just animation.

So I made a new burst front animation since I didn't really like the first one that much.
Here's the comparison:
Before:

After:

What do you think?

you shot his head off ?
Title: Re: Gecko Model
Post by: Haraldx on June 06, 2011, 11:53:27 am
And it's arm :P

@About the animation.
If it's possible, can you make it so the arm/head gets shot off earlier/later than the other part?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RizVcwSSNmY&feature=related
Look at this video, you can see the head gets shot faster than the arm.

Well yes it's possible but the sprite gecko burst death loses both hands and the head. I left one arm there just because I can :P

Thanks :)

A bit late to say it but it looks real good. I really like the idle anims and the walking looks good too just like the rest of the animations.
You really made it look close to the original nice work!

Question for all of you, what animations am I missing?

Here's what I have and what I don't (green yes, red no)

Take damage
Attack bite

Claw attack
Walk
Run
Die front
Die back
Die front from burst
Die back from burst

As you may have noticed.. I haven't been active lately. Too much shit to do and too little time.
Which is why I'm releasing the gecko model as is so someone could complete it. I'm not a big fan of leaving shit incomplete but I have no choice.
Here's (http://www.easy-share.com/1918018662/gecko.zip) a zip file containing the blender file and texture. The gecko has been rigged so there's a main handle that you can use to move the whole model around and another handle that moves the body around while keeping feet where they are.
Each of the animations are in separate actions. Be careful though. Some actions are corrupted for lack of a better term, and will fuck up other animations if activated. You'll notice which ones are futzed by looking at the gecko itself. He'll go completely bonkers.
