The disadvantages of being in an NPC faction are so huge the only char I'd ever leave in one is a doc alt, but those never leave VC. Joining then leaving is fine, your rep will fix itself but permanent aggro from things like being a slaver are crazy. I'd rather buy mercs that are useful than have free slaves that suck and give me a high chance of dying on the most important parts of the map.
