Question about bases

What happens if you have a tent and decide to build a base?
Do you lose the tent along with all the things stored there, does the inventory in the crate get transferred and you lose all items, or does nothing happen?

Nothing happens, you will have a base along with your tent.

I thought I'd open this back up.  I've always bought a base with 4 people total because 3 seemed to not work.  Is there something I'm missing?  Does it require yourself and 2 friends or yourself and 3 friends (3 or 4 players total)?
