I don't know why there is a suggestions forum.  I've yet to see one suggestion implemented... even the good ones (maybe especially the good ones).

But yes, The Merc AI is freaking horrible.  It reminds me of Fallout 1 when Ian would always trap you in a corner, then you had to blast him to get out... and of course he always bursted the hell out of you whenever you gave him his "favorite" weapon.

Yes, this suggestion most probably will be implemented.
