"Zone Coordinates" available without Outdoorsman
« on: September 02, 2010, 01:41:55 am »

(These are "Zone Coordinates", as I call them. Accessible with a certain amount of Outdoorsman.)

Right now, once you get a to a certain level of Outdoorsman (about 100 or 150, I don't know, but it doesn't matter), you can see the global coordinates on tiles you have been to.

There isn't really an advantage in having it for game purposes. I mean, sure, you can now say "Go to Zone 34:27, and then make distress signal", but this would be a rare advantage and both people would have to have high Outdoorsman for it to even matter to be able to see the Zones, anyway. Also, using out-of-game Tools and stuff, one could already write down all of the Coordinates and Zones, so if one really wanted to be able to see these Zones, they could do that, but it would make testing harder either way, which brings me into the point that I made this suggestion.

My suggestion: Make these "Zone Coordinates" show up no matter what your outdoorsman is.

The current way would be an okay "Final Feature" of the game, but right now, it is still in testing. I suggest this for testing purposes. If people with low outdoorsman could see Zones and Coordinates on their map, they could easily report some bugged mechanics or encounter in certain tiles, e.g. "Floaters found in Zone__ __ are non-existent, encounter is empty".

But of course, if it annoys you or something, there should be an option to turn it off, but that would be the lowest-priority.

Good idea.

Nope.
1. It's obvious that making skills higher should give you certain additional bonuses. The problem is that most other skill do not have them.
2. It's a good thing to encourage people to make their chars more "widely oriented" than pushing them into making specialised powerbuilds (which is happening anyway). Powerbuilds suck people!
3. This game's far too easy anyway  ;D

I support that. We could have quests with coordinates.

Then you will need some high outdoorsman friend.

I'm against coordinates for lower outdoor.

basicaly I was using Coordinates to find my beloved lvling spot - 24:12. You can always find one dumb russian running around there with a 10mm smg and clj, then you go to base, take blue suit and 10mm pistol and own him... Hah.

Well on topic - Somehow I don't like it. Just don't. Don't ask me why, but I just don't like it.

I still can be reached over e-mail if you somehow need anything from me. Don't see a reason why you would, but if you do, e-mail remains the safest bet, as I do not visit this forum reliably anymore.

And whats the benefit of having 100% outdoorsman? You get cords and what? woopps nothing. Simple math you should get this nothing for nothing = everyone

One more thing before closing!

It would be like giving players ability to quick check of life, armor and weapons of other player without awarness. Without awarness you still can do it, but you have to click on player to know hes life (without exatcly points) and you have to assume is that just leather armor or mayby mk2.

Won't it be possible for everyone when the 3d model will finally be implemented?

What are the pros of coordinates? You can meet with your buddy that has 100% outdoorsman too? Wow. this is SO useful. People rather join teams in towns or bases while awarness affects your whole gameplay, it has far more uses and its essential for a sniper. On the other hand cords are almost useless.

kraskish - funny, if coords are soooo useless, why do you bother to argue for them that much?

I always found them quite useful. I.e. sharing and remembering best hunting spots was way easier. Geckos? zone XX:XX. Brahmins? zone XX:XX.

I have all my chars with 100% outdoorsman or more so Im compelled to see them which I do not want. I bother because it just a little biggy that some people would like to add to the "invest skill points or suffer" notion.

Yeah, so you write cords down, fine. AFAIK squares determine the encounters not their parts and anyway I do have the memory to remember where to hunt things I do not write them down and look for the same cords. The only useful thing that cords have is that you could meet with your friend that has 100% outdoors and wants to meet with you in the middle of the desert which is pretty unlikely (people team in towns, bases, tents).

Cords could be used for quests or like in TNF video to dig something in the desert, otherwise it has no real function...
