Making RT PvP a better experience
« on: August 28, 2010, 02:46:49 pm »

The reason what should annoy is that it does not matter who has better perception or agility in RT battle it just depends who pulls the trigger first... because everyone has enough AP to do a devasting alpha strike... like Burstfire or aimed shot... BUT i'd say these options should not be avaible at the start of a fight.. There should be 2 diffrent sorts of AP civil AP which are used to pick up things and so on and fighting AP which will start at zero when starting a battle.. Perception and Agility determine how fast you gain the APs so the person with more Ag and Pe are more likely to shoot first giving them a little advantage over people who invested there SPECIAL points in EN or Str...

perception DOES matter. If you see an enemy first you can anticipate his actions and retreat or shoot first.

if you dont want to get pwned with one shot take life giver or wear a decent armor or take more endurance

i have 2 lifegivers and with metal armor mark 2 the battle can last several minutes

The Alpha strike will be much reduced post wipe. Let's see how that plays.

Mmm, sounds interesting...
Maybe we could have more details about this ?  ;)
Less Damages ? Less accuracy ? Both ?
Will it affect aimed shots too ?

What are these alpha strikes you speak of?

It must be the first shot.

I think it's that if bigguner runs, stops and already shots.
Solar said in another topic something about that there wont be instant shots after running.

Nothing to do with that, that was just a "it would be better this way" to a hypothetical situation.

Alpha strike is reduced by nerfing drugs, stopping fast shot working on bursts and (this won't be ready for on the wipe, but soon after) a way of reducing criticals.

So wait, are alpha strikes just another name for first shot? Or is it something else?

alpha strike refers to first salvo of ammunition, not simply first attack. for 15 AP BG, it is 3 burst in one turn... or in rt, stand there and press button til dead.

For an example of the nerf, the most any BGer can do is 2 shots.

i am sorry but the issue is with BG's capable of ludicrous amount of dmg possible for the AP used. no other weapon can make such efficient use of AP in terms of ap:damage ratio. nothing wrong with BG firing 3 times, or 50 times, as long as there is a more acceptable accuracy. minigun fires what 30? 40? rounds? what do you think is possibility of someone using a big gun like that and hitting all 40 bullets, let alone even half?

in real life, a trained persons accuracy with a small machine gun (assault rifle size) is around ~30% per clip. that is only average of course, and just used as an example here. this is fallout obviously and if you are only hitting 30% of shots you will not be having fun.

what needs to be achieved is balance between single, aimed, critical shot and massive spray and pray burst spam. currently if you have enough skill with BG, you are nearly perfectly accurate, scoring burst 100+ from very far away.

in my opinion, bg's accuracy scale should be:
0-100 skill: 20-50% accuracy
101-251 skill: 40-70% accuracy
251-300 skill: 70-95% accuracy

if some scaling accuracy formula was applied to bg hit %, i believe we would see a much greater balance than could be achieved with simply nerfing AP cost of BG burst.

not only would a scaling formula more accurately portray a fight situation (small guns/ew need a tweak as well, in this case), but this will give purpose to builds with high gun skill... as in, a BG character must be dedicated to BG and BG only to be as powerful as they are now. currently, the situation stands that a BG's only weakness is arm crits. a proper BG build toon will be able to doctor broken arms in the middle of combat (RT) or survive long enough to escape. such a situation, in my opinion of course, is unacceptable in any MMORPG, because of obvious reasons. one player build should not have complete dominance over any other, even in solo situation.

that is not always possible, however, so i really look forward to see what changes solar and other devs bring to the table for the next wipe.

the truth is, big bullets hurt a lot more than small bullets, and in a real life situation, that is advantage of big guns vs small guns. in game situation, big guns use same ammunition as small guns, but much more. i propose a simple solution: very high damage with horrible accuracy. akin to something like, attempting to sprint while firing belt-fed m60.
