What is your favorite Town/Place in Fallout - and WHY?!

<< < (3/6) > >>

Winston Wolf:
Normaly my post would be longer, but I'm too tired to write a long one and I can't go to bed without posting here. :D

1. The Hub

I love the city for it's style. It's dark, destroyed and depressing and fits perfectly into the world of Fallout. The organisation attracts me pretty much too. There are caravans, merchants, a police unit and a bar driven by the local criminal. It is just like I imagine a city in such a game which makes the Hub for me to THE city representing the postapocalyptic world of Fallout.

2. The Glow

I just love the fact that you really have to prepare before you go there, because I missed the survival aspect in Fallout. You "have" to get some Rad-X, Rad Away, a geiger counter, a rope and gear to protect yourself. Altogether with exploring the Facility and reading all the discs you can find there, the Glow is the most exciting place to me.

3. Modoc

I like the place for it's simplicity. Just some farmers who try to survive in a destroyed world. Very atmospheric.

Well, I think the best music is that and that.

Gatling:
Erm, I picked
1. New Reno: Well, this might be a given.  I have always enjoyed the free pvp there.  The long streets are a bit of a pain in the ass for sniper camps, but none the less, has always been fairly fun.  There are a number of bartenders to trade with, the Rocketman and Eldridge in Commercial section. One of my biggest problems though with Reno is, that since the Reputation systems implementation, the casino people as well as the pimp/hookers eventually become a complete PAIN IN THE ASS.  You pvp there, collateral damage eventually happens, its fairly a given.  I would like it if some npcs just ran the hell away from you... like hookers and pimps.  They see you, they should just run the fuck off to escape.  :P    Having to go there pre-pvp with ammo and a crappy gun just to clear out the spastic NPCs that will swarm you on sight is tedious and I am fairly sure anyone who has pvped there has some idea of what I talk of.

And 2nd, Boneyard made another choice of mine.  This might not be high on some peoples list, but...
I love the area.  Being fairly active in the area since first playing 2238, I have enjoyed how it has developed.  The scenery is nice, with mountains nearby just outside a city terrain, with a few traders, and even a train station now to cut away the long walk if you don't want it (not to mention that the train goes to SF and NCR both, some of the most interesting places to run off and fart around in), with some fairly alright encounters for low levels.  Yes, the dogs can be a horrid pain, but some armor and fighting instead of running can be a nice method of grinding out some gradual xp.  Top this off with a few neat quests added since last wipe in the area, a 1 Charisma trader along with a midget bastard, and you have a nice area.

Finally, lastly I leave with comments about Hub.
Always liked Hub, though I am a little iffy on it being automatically a part of NCR during 2238.  Despite that, it has plenty of shops, lots of crapcows, scorpions outside in the wasteland, and only a short walk to either Junktown or (more importantly) Boneyard, and even Necropolis, its ... well, as the name says, a Hub.  Taking the train from NCR, its not really that far out of the way now, either.  I've Pvped there too in the past, with some extremely fun results, having a shootout among the buildings with pks.  Quest-wise, its a little lacking, but that is fine.  Hub is still great and I look forward to its future incarnations with anticipation.

In the end, I found it hard to actually pick places (only 3? NOOOO) because I am fond of a few other areas. Gecko is awesome, but its pvp-playground combined with windowless buildings (Gtfo no-windows), longggg walks to any exit grids, wide open spaces gives me bad vibes, and lots of bullets.  Love the ghouls and reactor, however, and it always holds a place close in my heart. SAD is extremely fun, though sadly almost entirely ignored by players(and pvpers) from my experience during the present era.  :(   And lastly, Frisco.  Great place, fun(and damn deadly) encounters, sadly hidden behind a wall of sand and said hardass city encounters.  Its one of the few places that can be really challenging even to a lone lvl 21, which keeps it very high on my list despite its far-off distance.

... Yeah, I went overboard, but I said I liked lots of places.  Like lots more, but I do have to shut up at some point.  :D

Thank you Winston and Gatling!, , this is exact the type of post I want to see here!

Guess I should post mine too, now! You should know, that the general atmosphere of a place FOR ME is always determined by its music. I've listened so much of this music Mark Morgan did over the last few years I can send every note to my synthesizer even while asleep. :P So you know, this music is really important for me.
But also the graphical style! Everything in a certain color palette, everything looked rusty/fucked up/destroyed but also gave a bit of hope... Yep..

1. Modoc

This place I think, is the most realistic thing they could pull off in Fallout 2 after such a long period of time. They try to survive, planting seeds, cropping...
They are starving aswell.  :-\ But you can help them. They provide rather "human" quests, not unrealistic things. The questline "Help/Defend/Attack" the Slags is good. The Music!!!! My FAVORITE track in all of the Fallouts Titles. It is SO much haunting, such a good ambient track that it followed me into my dreams. The mellow but slight melancholic/depressive atmosphere is shining through. MUSIC HERE: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=69Qr8iChODs

2. The General Wasteland (forgot to add that in the poll, will do that)

The Atmosphere! It's a desert. It is flat. You barely see anything. There is just death out there. There is just death out there. THERE IS JUST DEATH AWAITING YOU! No, but seriously. This music track is the first you hear in every fallout title (1/2) at the characters creation and later in random encounters in the middle of the desert. That track burned into my brain, this track doesnt leave any options over for being funny or such, it is mean, depressing, it is the wasteland. The maps also represent that. If one asks me what "Fallout is about" - I show him a little dialogue with good written things off of Fallout, then these maps,  that game track and a turn based fight. This is fallout for me. MUSIC HERE: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zZUOBRa0UIU

3. The Boneyard

Seriously. A city, "living" in ruins. Some small groups of scavengers, organized by a mean group of armed man. People living among once high skyscrapers. Isnt that too a climax of a postapocalyptical thingy? I found it depressing, and fitting. Also, the music! Amazing "cover" of Aphex Twins "Grass" on this, Mister Mark Morgan! LPLimbos:
I choosed:

KLAMATH: I love its atmosphere in FO2, it made it look as an interesting little humble place where some Gecko hunters rounded up.

THE DEN: I simply love the den, it has some of the better quests in FO2, it has one of the best atmospheres in all the game and all the NPCs there are interesting in some way.

THE HUB: As some people has already said this is THE CITY of the wasteland, is a little trading comunity formed out of several trading "companies" and is one of the most interesting and fun places to be, it also has some good quests in it.

The music i love is the one from VC and the world map one in FOnline, idk if this was the same music in FO1 and FO2 in the world map but i simply love this track

Dark Angel:
Modoc - The best PVP city ;D
