Junktown guards

I think there seems to be a problem in communication between them. The guard at the gate says "welcome traveller". I enter the town with a hammer in hands (im a crafter), then after about 2 minutes one guys starts shouting and shoots me. I dunno, but seems like a little glitch. Maybe allow having weapons in junktown so it won't make such problems?

I'm having issues as well. The guard at the front welcomed me, but when I passed the gates the guard said "There he is, get him!" and was beaten to death  :-\
I had +20 reputation, 0 karma, weapon holstered. I heard entering around midnight or being in a player faction effects the guard's reaction. Could anyone please confirm?

Never try to enter Junktown at night hours (20-08), or they will kill you.

In night time, he tells you this. Also since a while this is only true for people who are in a faction. If you don't have any faction, you can enter Junktown even in the night.

Junktown doesn't allow to run around with weapons in the hands and the sledgehammer counts as a weapon.
