FMJ vs JHP .44 (can somebody check my math?)
« on: August 15, 2010, 03:24:45 am »

'ello, 's been a while. :)

Bunch of us started playing again, and now some new guys are asking me what ammo should they use with their .44 weapons.

I honestly don't remember which is better for which type of critter, so I went and calculated it for use on players.

We assume they're being fired from a Desert Eagle and that there is no critical. And just for sake of calculation, let's say we 'roll' max damage, e.g. 16. And let's leave the criticals out for now.

Now then... Ammo types:

FMJ > DR modifier -20,  Damage adj 1/1
JHP > DR modifier 50, Damage adj 3/1

Compared to armours:
ArmourDRDTCalcuation
Bluesuit0%0-
 > FMJ 16*1 - (0% - 20% = 0%?) = 16 - 0% = 16
 > JHP 16*3 - (0% + 50% = 50%) = 48 - 50% = 24
Leather Jacket20%0
 > FMJ 16*1 - (20% - 20% = 0%) = 16 - 0% = 16
 > JHP 16*3 - (20% + 50% = 70%) = 48 - 70% = 14.4
Combat Leather Jacket  302
 > FMJ 16*1 - (30% - 20% = 10%) = 16 - 10% = 14.4 - 2 = 12.4
 > JHP 16*3 - (30% + 50% = 80%) = 48 - 80% = 9.6 - 2 = 7.6

I couldn't find the exact procedure for calculation in the 2238 wiki and the Fallout 2 wikia was a bit on the sketchy side. So just out of curiosity, would somebody care to confirm or correct my calculations and procedures?

Plus, once it's clear, somebody (prolly me :D) oughtta enter this in the wiki.

I believe your calculations are correct, except you didn't account for the combat leather jacket's DT. Just remember that a .44 magnum with FMJ is inferior to a 14mm Pistol and that a lot of people have Toughness. Now consider that finesse is like giving someone a free combat leather jacket on top of whatever armor they have already.

leather jacket: 50%
Cmbt leather jacket: 60%
Metal armor: 70%
Metal mk2: 75%
...etc?

With finesse:

Metal armor: 60%
Metal mk2: 65%
BA: 70%

People can have an additional 60% normal DR with Psycho and 10% normal DR and 4 DT with 2x toughness, though 1x toughness is more common. A second toughness perk doesn't provide any more DT against AP ammo while wearing any metal armor under 25% det or BA under 13% det.

D'oh on the DT for CLJ. Have it here on paper, just forgot to write in in the table.

Hi,
I made calculations for Desert Eagle with different ammo type for any kind of armor used in Fonline. Those results are true only for a char without Toughness perk.

Desert Eagle, dmg:10-16, .44 JHP,

* None armor: 0/0%  -->    15    17    18    20    21    23    24
* Leather Jacket: 0/20%  -->    9     10    11    12    13    14    15
* Combat Leather Jacket: 2/30%  -->    6     7     7     8     8     9     10
* Leather Armor: 2/25%  -->    7     8     9     10    10    11    12
* Leather Armor Mk II: 3/25%  -->    7     8     9     9     10    11    12
* Tesla Armor: 4/20%  -->    8     9     10    11    12    13    14
* Metal Armor: 4/30%  -->    6     6     7     7     8     9     9
* Metal Armor Mk II: 4/35%  -->    4     5     5     6     6     7     7
* Combat Armor: 5/40%  -->    3     3     4     4     4     4     5
* Combat Armor Mk II: 6/40%  -->    3     3     3     4     4     4     5
* Brotherhood Armor: 8/40%  -->    3     3     3     4     4     4     4

Maybe I am wrong but I think FMJ is more universal than JHP.

Don't forget that most critters have atleast 20% DR and probably 2 DT, so for PvE and with .44 better use FMJ. .44 JHP is excellent for armor bypassing only with x3 mult, and against bluesuit, nothing more.
