Fallout Hardcore Style?

I make it down to Reno before I run out of Steam. This actually happened on the playthrough I was planning to embark on. Fallout 2's economic balance and difficulty curve really is horrible. The struggle up to Modoc is always the most entertaining part. Once you're all well equipped with a lot of ammo, it's just fish in a barrel.

As for modding the game, I just downloaded f2wedit from NMA and pointed it at my Fallout 2 directory. I've made some changes, but I haven't tested them out yet.

Oh, but make sure you set the files to read only before you start the game, else your changes will be overwritten.

I played with it a long time ago and I remember it's a very good mod, too. I'll install it, thanks for reminder !

Totally-fockin'-agreein' !

I don't know what would be required to keep that feeling throughout the game. It'd be an extensive overhaul. I can see encounter tables being the biggest problem. The further south you get, the more every hostile NPC has a decent gun. The game just throws guns at you by the time you hit Reno. Even if you don't grab them all, it feels a bit silly.

Plus, by then, you've got decent armour in stores/plenty of companions as backup. Everyone has a reasonable gun, and most shots by this point will be good old familiar 95%.

My guess is up to that point it still feels like a post-apocalyptic fight for survival. The best armour you'll have will be made out of leather, and you and your crew will most likely be wielding 10mms, shotguns and hunting rifles. Most fights feel pretty evenly matched.

Remove southern towns and clone Modoc there instead... :/ Oh, save Vault 15, it's quite a correct map.

Sounds very good.

I really don't know what to do. Other than just grow old in Modoc.
