PvE?
« on: July 21, 2010, 11:56:00 pm »

I'm curious are there any new features being developed for PvE? I know there is some quest related competition but still MMO quests serve mainly as exp/money/education for players. If you want to make attractive quests it needs either good story (which is pretty much out of the question right now) or something less repetitive as "kill something X times" or "bring me X of something". So I think that making fancy quests with reward that is worth it is easier than trying to come with less original yet story-lined quests.

But as said before, quests are mainly a tool to keep players busy and the main reason most of the people are here is end game content. Are there any chances to see "dungeons" in FOnline? Or some group PvE challenges? I remember that Lexx once said that they don't like instances and we would most likely never see dungeon instances in FOnline, which is imho bad. Because creating PvE completely server wide open for anyone will turn PvE into PvP. Also we already have some quest instances ingame so I wonder if PvE will work the same or maybe combine open PvE with instances?

Anyway I've created this thread to scout if there are any PvE features being developed and what we can expect in future. So I'll summarize it in few main questions:
- can we expect quests with storyline or original and entertaining content?
- are there going to be any endgame group/raid PvE challenges? If yes, then are there going to be open for anyone, instances or combined?
- will you introduce alternative ways of gaining tier 2/3 equipment other than crafting?
- are you planning anything new as endgame content? Equipment is not the issue in FOnline and character development is very limited, so there is not any real goal for competitive players. Are there plans for anything new like faction wars, town/gang hideout building, advanced markets (auction houses, black markets...)?

- BTW question: Do you plan to upgrade UI? Mainly things like quest tracking, sorting out crafting tables, friend/foe list etc.?

Some day, yes. Kind of like various main-stories in one game.

Yes and these will be instanced and open on character level x.

Due to PvE or other such actions. Even in PvP would be possible, but we don't have time in the moment to work on this.

As there is no real endgame content in the moment, yes.

UI updates, yes. But not in the moment.

That are the answers I wanted to hear   ;). Damn, I forgot to ask for ETA for these changes or if they are already being developed or if they are still only at to-do list. Also another thing that is bugging me is how do you want to make PvE dungeons? Well almost every existing MMO bets on the regular trio tank-dps-heal but thats kinda not the situation of FOnline, definitely not without changes. Can we expect at least some requirements to finish these dungeons or are they gonna be more like "get in, kill everything that moves, loot and get out"? I think that some tactics should be involved also as several ways of finishing dungeons. Such as if the group has engineer with them, they could turn off the generator and kill the lights, then sneaker will silently kill guards at main entrance through knock out/poison/backstab and then the rest of the group could continue in their journey. Or medic could heal prisoners held by bad guys which will then help you to keep guards at last boss busy and you could focus on finishing him off etc...

So are there going to be features like this or the first dungeons will be more simple and with the time we may see some more complex dungeons?

PvE dungeons will need randomly all of your party skills. Combat skills is the most obvious, but we also have lockpicking, traps, mechanic / repair, science and so on. So it might be possible, that you are deep inside some dungeon and then a gate is in front of you that you can't pass.

See my abandoned tanker quest. This is a good example of a (small and) linear PvE dungeon.

About some kind of "ETA", I don't want to talk, as there is not really any. It's all about how fast the other internal stuff is getting done and if new and more important things are crossing the list.
