Getting Robot Mercs ( Yes Again :P )

<< < (3/15) > >>

Mr Feltzer:
Well, Robots Aint that tough, But they should be weakened down to a certain extent

Alvarez:
MACHINE INVASION!

No, seriously, many good suggestions about robots were made previously, yet every one was rejected, because it's not postapocalyptic enough...
And the Wasteland would be full of them, what doesn't exactly represents the postapocalyptic landscape.

Would it really? The follower limit is now working globally and for parked followers, so there wouldn't be Calculator Armies invading the Westcoast. (begone, Tactics heretic!)
Also, there are people in Wasteland, owning single robots.

If we rehash the old suggestions according to new rules, like narrow-specialised "robot slavers", high Science, Repair, spare parts and Small Energy Cells, supply the robots with traits the ordinary slaves/mercs cannot fulfill and taking some advantages of the living, you could give a "golem" into  player's posession.

What i would suggest, the robot amount per player should be not more than ONE and require a constant maintenance with SEC's and electronic parts. Your whole attention will be concentrated on this one robot, instead of 10 slaves or mercs, which get their food by themselves.
That would also hinder players to make dozens of Robotics Engineer alts. They would spit on the hassle and go PvP instead.
A dedicated Robotics Engineer would think the other way around.
(You could get a Flying Eye for scouting, a BrainBot for SG fire support or transport, if you are well-versed in Robotics, you could build yourself a expensive Sentry Bot BUT NOT ALL AT ONCE.)

It could be even improved, if the robot deactivates himself, if the owner is not around, except Base Turrets, feeded by the Generator.

That's all for this moment, i think the arguments are valid enough. You're free to post counterarguments.
Letting the thread die or lock it doesn't count.

There's no point in this if it takes constant sec or if you can only have one, robots aren't that good. As for robots not being "falloutish" people seem to forget this takes place 2228 and robots were common place. It's 50's futuristic sci fi, not mad max in the 80's.

Archaeon_dude:
So uh. I'mma pass on reading all yer previous controversy and all that stuff and say my particular view of the stuff:

¡OH THE POSSIBILITIES!
While the hacking tool could be a first step, this could be driven towards a great empowerment of science driven characters, making player classes a bit more varied. A dude with an obscene amount of science could build his own robotz! AWZUM! Just imagine! The classic retaliation of the nerdy-dude. He didn't take no brawiling lessons, he can't shoot a gun. He's just a geeky dude with lots of IN and a tinkerin' disposition. He just builds himself some robobrains and eyebots to shoot at his enemies! Maybe even a sentry bot (which should be extremely expensive)?

Anyway, I like boobs.

Michaelh139:
The number of robots you can have at once could be determined by intelligence so crafters have someone to save thier asses...

What are you gonna do?  "Persuade" a ROBOT to keep folllowing you?
