Best MMO I've played since Ultima Online.
« on: June 21, 2010, 05:05:32 pm »

Before starting, I would like to say I have never been hooked to a game in this way since 1999. Playing a videogame more than 4 hours straight? you f* crazy? (me 3 days ago).

So, here I was (or be since my INT with my first character was so low half of my words were invented and made me think if my fingers were way too fat for proper typing in the keyboard) relaxed watching a movie and a friend pops me a video from youtube with a lot of people playing fallout 2 online, doing massive pvp trying to take control of a city. Tired of  free-to-play korean neverending repetitive grinding festival point&click videogames parade, and even more of pay-to-play MMORPGS that are even worse, I undust my old copy of fallout 2 and decide to try this Fonline 2238 thing.

1st character, point of view:

-Woah, I been in that cave for years, time to go out and get some sunny on this milky skin.
-Hey! Nice dog! does it bite?
-BYE!
-NCR? Nice armor guys. *someones tries to rob you* (all I had was some noodles, a nuke cola and few rocks. Richest caveman in the area, and they knew)
-I'm leaving this place and kill somethnig, I need to be strong.

*You encounter some hamsters. Yeah, not mutated, normal hamsters, smaller than a hand.*

You miss
you miss
rat hits you for 4
rat hits you for 3
you miss you miss ..... you uncouncios. The rat bites your neck and you bleed to death.

At this point I realized something was wrong. I probably badly messed up my SPECIAL.

After 5 or 20 new characters:

-Freaking rats they doomed now. I go with, 1 charism (never gave a fuck about popularity, my strenght is my presentation card), 4int, 10 strenght, 6 agi, 5 luck (luck that doesn't exist! I forge my own destiny! *fool*), 8 endurance, hard swings, melee damage

-You hit rat for 8 damage
-You kill rat but now wait 10 days to reheal
-You  visit ALL traders to buy him some healing stuff, but they ALL refuse to talk with freaks and deformed people.

*FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU*

Ok. After a day, I managed to read most tips/help forum posts:

-Me enters town with what I thought was my last and most perfect character.

-Anyone selling cow hides? I need for tent.

-Someone yells in red *I CAN GIVE YOU HIDES*

-Someone says "tag me, I'll guid you to my camp and give you 10 hides"

-Me trusts this guy: Hey he has been nice, my money in my bank and my bank in my hub. We good, lets see if he was being honest.

We reach his camp after he insulting me for not following his directions 100% effectively (dem we nubs)

-Misterious kind soul says "Wait out here, you steal something, I shoot you death".

-Alright boss.

He was legal (or so I thought at the time), he comes with me, helps me sent a tent:

*This place is good -he says-, you got a mine close*

I learn more and more about this game. Every trip outside my tent place I know it is a 80% chance of certain death and thats what I love most. Exploration & danger in right ammount.

After a day, learnt how to craft, how to gather, but still no clue how to make caps... I fill my tent with all kind of goodies I could gather, crappy weapons, ammo, hides, tools, etc.

After a long trip crafting and turning minerals and rocks into useful materials, I finally reach my tent:

-You are hit in the head for 52 damage.
-You are dead. Idiot.

...wtf...

-Me: starts laughting and thinking *game over* turns off comp and heads out of home for fresh air.

At this moment I had thought, this game is so freaking hard, whats the point?.... Whats the point!? That it is the freaking point!  Its Freaking hard! Afther 2 hours in streets I couldn't wait to reach home, turn PC on and create a brand new character, be the most respected, highest karma, and maybe someday a filthy slaver and occasional hooker user.

I have no idea how such a mastermind could manage (technically) into crafting an MMO like this. But he/they, you are golden my friend, and you getting some paypal love from me when I get my cc fixed. Promise.

See you in the no mans land.

Sounds like that guy found a good way to make you mine for him  ;D

You've probably heard it before, and you will hear it again, and probably every day you're here.

well, it's addictive as well, i guess because of the adrenaline rushes you get when you see another player, normally it's badunk.........badunk, and when a player comes into your encounter  badunkadunkadunk, what you think is, can I take him on, does he have vengeful friends, is he a nobody, maybe he's a pk with a pocketrocket, and then you eyecrit his ass, he slutter oscene shit, and you get his gear.

This game is so hard which makes it very unique and exciting :)

When you learn the ropes, you will enjoy this game a LOT more. Good choice to gather information is from 2238 official IRC channel.

Two thing in mind when you see a player: Can I or Can I not kill him?   ;)

Too true, too true, I think that all the time, without awareness a lv3 guy with a flamer and metal armour can seem like a lv21 laser sniper with a metal mk2, i've seen guy trying to intimidate just so they can survive for a few more minutes.

Uh oh.  Don't tell me that he was in the tile with you when you created the tent.  That gives him permanent access, and would explain how you got killed at your own tent.  People shouldn't be able to see your tent on the map unless they were there when you created it.  You may want to re-create your tent.  :-*

yeah, hit him where it hurts, since from my expert opinion (not so expert really) he's got at least one merc with a heavy duty weapon there, and the bastard probably started stashing shit in there as well, so, i guess that it'll take some time for the tentsquatter to recover from it, provided he isn't in a large gang.
