Guarded HQ Mine?!

The past few times (about 5 - 6 times) that I have gone to HQ mines (Redding, Gecko, Broken Hills) to extract HQ Minerals and HQ Ore I have been killed by PKers either on my way into/out of the mine or on my way out of the Town.

It gets frustrating going through all the effort to get the materials neccessary to craft a Sledgehammer, make my way through TONS of random encounters to get to the HQ mines, extract HQ Minerals/Ore which gets my Cooldown upto 27 Minutes (thats a LONG wait), then as I'm off out of the mine to go and craft something... BOOM! suddenly some PKer's splattering my guts all over the place.

I'd like to suggest that you make one of these HQ mines a guarded mine (or perhaps even open a new mine?), it would help out alot of the lower level players that wish to mine without having to get all worried when they see another player around the area.

It's so OBVIOUS that those mine are made unguarded on purpose and there is no other way to obtain HQ materials.
Lower level players dont need High Tier weapons because only thing they do is pif paf with a mauser on scorpion.

Im only a low level (High Science & Repair Skill) and I use HQ mines as much as possible, but its ruined by the fact that High Level PKers can just camp inside/outside of the mine and wait untill you have mined HQ Minerals/Ore then they kill & loot you...

There is no downside to having a guarded HQ mine...

There is one downside - unlimited amount of HQ in game maybe ?

How so? The Cooldown will still be the same amount of time (which is rather long BTW) the only difference is that instead of PKers/Gangs hoarding all the HQ Minerals/Ore to themselves, it will be more easily available to everyone (which is just fine because you still need high Science Skill to put the HQ Minerals/Ore to good use anyway).

If you don't understand that Guarded HQ Mine > Unguarded HQ Mine where ">" means there will be shitloads of HQ ore in game, then I have nothing to say.

High science you mean making a char on lvl 3 with tagged science is some super high requirment ?

I just hate the fact that I can use a good 15 - 25 minutes to gather materials (Gathering Junk + Wood for a Sledgehammer), travelling to a HQ Mine, etc.  just to be killed by some PKer in a matter of 5 seconds, THEN I have to wait for the Gathering Cooldown before I am able to even attempt to gather HQ Materials and then having the same thing happen ALL OVER AGAIN!

It gets EXTREMELY frustrating... Also HQ Materials arent even worth shit when traded but I do get where your coming from... Guess its just ME who keeps gettin PKed everytime I visit a HQ mine.

Did you get PKd last night?

I saw you in Redding, but you had a gun out so I left and waited a bit before coming back.

please keep the weapon hidden when in mine, otherwise people might make assumptions of intent.

Edit: I'm thinking of making a Silent Running, High Sneak, 6-10 END, Toughness/Lifegiver, grenadier miner.

Classic response incoming: The wasteland is tough.  As Dzit said, we can't have too many HQ materials in-game.  Their scarcity is a dynamic that adds more interest to the game.  Do the Rail Line Gang quest, memorize the departure and return times to and from Vault City, and mine.  TBH I don't encounter that many PKers.. and the best way to disarm a guy is to talk to him.  Once he knows there's a guy behind that avatar, it's harder for him to pull the trigger.

Make a ninja miner with Silent Running, so at least you represent a difficult target, as long Sneak is not nerfed.

i use the train from NCR to Vault City, makes it easier;
do the rail line gang quest to get the train

Well this would probably be a more feasable suggestion than making a public safe HQ mine, I assume the mine foremen are selling bases and not functional mines, if so, good for the faction.

Make a few classes of mines, a Non functional mine usable as a base, a mine with average deposits(those who fear those who do not keep their hands in their OWN pockets), and a mine with HQ Deposits. Now I would honestly make a highly functional mine cost more than a farm, as it is probably rich in HQ Deposits, and probably something a faction member with high Charisma and speech would have to talk the foreman out of hoarding it.

Rather than having gangs live in caves their whole life, don't put anything but ore and mineral deposits in the functional mines, and don't make them count as bases, but rather as Assets, and allow factions to own say, a single functional mine. Of course, owning a functional mine costs more than moving into a depleted mine.

If someone wants a safe place to get HQ ores, they should pay for it, safe HQ mines should be hoarded, and maybe even cost a million caps(as owning such rare deposits is like owning Fort Knox), no that isn't a joke, if a faction wants a safe place to mine HQ deposits, it's going to have to leave their wallets empty or near empty, also consider limiting the amount of safe mines, new ones only opening up when one has been destroyed(using dynamite to cave it in), and even then they open up a good while after the mine has been destroyed, of course, HQ mines won't be easy to find and destroy.

There won't be a guarded HQ mine. If you want to have a safe one, gather some fighters and secure it.
