Killing at the spawn points

Everyone speak of preview, but how do you preview a map? i haven't the option nowhere and it's not writen in the aide.

Use Town/World button while being above the location, then upper triangle with an eye.

what are they/ what are they using?

There were 5 of them, but they're gone now.
They were using some kind of knife.
It took only a few hits to kill me at full health (156 hp).
