Possibilites with 3D Models
Gunduz:
I know the devs have said that even with 3D models, the backgrounds and things will stay 2D, which I think is fine. We'd lose way too much Fallout feel if it was all 3D. But are there ideas in mind for using 3D models for things that would not have been so easy before? The main thing that comes to mind is the train. The way it is now, the conductor tells you that the train is there when there is obviously no train visible. It seems like a 3D model of the train could be put in and it would look really cool, while at the same time lessening confusion.
I have no experience with modeling or implementing anything, but I think there would at least be one person willing to make the train, if not a few that could be part of a contest. And again, I don't know anything about implementing, but all it really needs to do is move from the edge of the map to the center of the station, wait, and then move to the edge of the map and disappear. You could still board the train through the conductor.
I didn't put this in suggestions because I don't even know if it's possible or if anyone would be willing to make this train.

Well, of course it's possible if someone makes a good train model. (or tries to rip the train of the Van Buren Startupscreen :P )
But it's not really high priority at the moment I think, it works fine for me imaging that there is a train, even when I don't see it. ;)
Lexx:
We will not add 3d models for anything other than critters.

Roachor:
Why? I mean what your saying is BS anyways lexx since they will have models for weapons and players. How is a train any different than any other sprite?
Lexx:
It is not bullshit. We only add models for critters. That this includes weapon models should be obvious, even for you. In case you just wanted to troll, I'll give you a warning.
There is no reason to add a train as 3d model. The train would be visible only from one side anyway and then you can get better and more fallouty results with rendering it into 2d and overpainting it by hand. Same goes for all other scenery.
