If you have a 300% sneak, we won't see you that much  ::)

well... according to formula.. with 300% and no bonuses. Whatever you are wearing/carrying, you can't sneak to someone who has 10 Perception.. (20+3*10-300/6 = 0)

As i assume everyone as at least 8 Perception, sneak is almost impossible. Even if you have some bonuses, because of your armor and stuff you carry, result of the formula will be positive. Consequently, You need to be absolutely naked, carry nothing at least, have ~300% and use some bonus.

If your victim is too far from scenery objects like barrels, tables, walls, you can forget it. :x

Moreover this formula is static, no dice roll to let you/your victim some chance.

Wow, now thats a huge piece of knowledge I didnt know. Thx Ghosthack

I am little confused about that point:"standing near scenery objects gives you +50% bonus"
Does that mean if we stand in hexes surrounding that objects?

Well, it means if they're on the way between you and your opponent, but you are up-to 2 hexes from them.

(20+3*10-300/6 = 0)

Might be worthy to adjust sneak divider (X/6) anyway, sneak was very good some time ago, then everything got adjusted and people kinda forgot about it(too hard to sneak). Good there's interest in it, and formula is made public, some adjustments may be easier that way.

Well current sneak system is very harsh for stealth players, 90% reduction if in front, so if you victim decides to turn around your 300% sneak is now 30% :P

no, I think it's -90 skill points not -90% (so it's 210%)

Hum ... I don't understand the formula ..

Where is the range variable?(no difference between 3 hex or 50 hex?)
If i'm hide at 45 hex far I can run on my opponent at 4 hex and he will never see me?

A nude guy (no armor, nothing in inventory) with 135 in sneak is view by all blinded guy?

The good news is that sneak skill works :p

this formula should be changed to increase chance for 200 or 250, modifying formula and adding a dice roll. Like for example :

30 + <enemy's_PER>*3 - <calculate_sneak>/4 + random(1,20) >= 0

random(1,20) for people not familiar with code is like rolling a dice of 20 faces.

Thus for someone naked (thus no malus) with no bonus and 250% in sneak against a player's back with 10 PER that gives us.. 2/20 chances to sneak! ( -2.5 + <roll_of_dice_20>. Player can sneak only if dice gives 1 or 2).

That's a bit better and still hard.

How do u want to roll a dice in this case? Sneaking is not a  single shot, its a continous action.

It sucks that sneak is essentially useless unless you put all your skill points into it. Having high intelligence to sneak seriously limits what kind of build you can sneak with.

no, I think it's -90 skill points not -90% (so it's 210%)

Well your wrong :) Quote directly from the developors wiki

"Direction - direction of the opponent has big impact, basically, the area around opponent is divided into four parts, and each part modifies your sneak skill value by reducing it (not substracting) by following percentages:
Front: 90%
Front-sides: 60%
Back-sides: 30%
Back: 0% "

According to this your total sneak skill is reduced by a value of 90% when in front of a player aka, 300% becomes 30% to illustrate how harsh the nerf was for sneakers and why no one uses it anymore. why pump you points into sneak where the only real use is from behind and players have nil visibility due too fov anyway? :)

Edit: It would be good to see this wound back eventually so that those wishing too play blue suit sneak snipers can still do so, i agree with the armor modifiers and weight (if a little harsh) but the line of sight modifiers really kill this skill, you dont see people using it anymore because it has no use at the moment :)
