Yes, but you can always die to lose all levels of radiation.

Further you'll lose some STR, END and then all SPECIAL except for Luck.

Also on max radiation level you'll turn into goo.

Can anyone link specifications on the energy weapons character table? Much appreciated. Plus, are the NPCs gaining experience faster than players?

Which specifications? Check the article, you may have to click on your weapon of choice there.
Also, NPC should gain Experience same as the players.

What are the approximate stats for a Supermutant minigun mercenary?  I just bought one and I mostly just want to know how much and which resistances it has. e.g. 40% normal resistance?
