Message sending CD
« on: April 22, 2010, 06:33:10 pm »

I suggest to make impossible to send any messages for some time if you doing this:

It completely covers half of screen and you can't see anything, also there's no any restriction like: "You sending messages too fast, wait some."

mmm... a delay will ruin dialogue between players, because many of them, me included, use "Hey -ENTER- nice to see you -ENTER- any news? -ENTER-", and the delay will hurt badly many innocent conversation.

The problem of spamming should be resolved, nonetheless.
Maybe add a limit of words into a single sentence?

if you are sending messages that are longer than 20 (15?) units and are being sent by an interval of maybe 1-3 seconds then it should be considered as spam.

how about just being able to block people so their messages don't display on your screen when they are blocked

Omg I don't talking about: you can't send messages rapidly.
It'll work the same way as on battle.net for example.
It's the same as you mining ore, you'll see minutes on your CD, but messages will add these minutes depending on ammount of symbols.
So typing like:
hello
how
do
you
do
Will have the same as:
hello how do you do

But if you'll send alot
<many symbols>
<many symbols again>
<many symbols and again>
<many symbols and again>
<many symbols and again>

Then you'll need to wait like 1 minute and only then you can spam.

Bad idea. Restricting everyone because of few is not the way to go.

Create ignore list instead...

3 seconds timeout after each message should be fine.

Have you ever tried to explain to someone how to craft via chat? Apparently you did not.

Besides nothing like this would change anything. 1st of all messages are shown for way longer than 3 secs (you can set in in your cfg but I doubt there is anyone who got it under 3 secs. So trolls will just refresh their msgs every 3 seconds and they will still appear there for the whole time and nothing will change. Maybe only log will be less flooded but the difference is insignificant.

Wtf does that have to do with anything? I'd sooner be convinced that 3 seconds is too long between "hi" and "don't shoot!" than explaining crafting. Will the other person just go away annoyed if he won't see your next message within 3 seconds?

Ignore list is fine. Very, very unfallouty and very hello kitty-ish, but go ahead.

That was just spam, not explain anything, so comparison don't works.

Also, Ignore List is a constant in every game not Hello Kitty-sh. Why? Because people have no common sense.

There's full loot. Death on every corner. No real safe spots except bases and tents. People following noobs into tents. People spreading misinformation and griefing. "Wasteland is harsh" a motto for all this.
And you want to have a convenient filter list to not hear what people say? It's also annoying that items on the ground can be invisible if behind a wall, so let's have their names appear over them (like in Diablo) so it's easier to spot them.
I'm annoyed at random people behaving Out Of Character, can I have an ignore list to stop them from being visible in my game too? I'm not saying it's a bad suggestion. Just that it's like a magical way to stick fingers up your ears whenever you see someone and start shouting "lalala".
