[Unique Thread] I can't launch the game or Log in
Aquare:
OK, I have checked it. So, the DataFiles.cfg like:
--- Code: ---include Datafiles2238.cfg
data\factioncritters.zip
#data\faction.zip
data\faction001.zip
--- End code ---
causes FOnline.exe crashes with FOnline.log:
--- Code: ---[00:063] Starting FOnline (version 0415-E7)...
[00:065] Engine initialization...
[00:278] Sprite manager initialization...
[00:484] Animation3d::StartUp - Fail to create effect, skinning switched to software.
[00:487] Load sprite 'egg.png' fail. Egg disabled.
[00:490] Sprite manager initialization complete.
[00:499] SpriteManager::LoadFontFO - File<OldDefault.fofnt> not found.
[00:501] FOnline engine initialization fail.
[12:436] FOnline finished.
--- End code ---
Original one:
--- Code: ---include Datafiles2238.cfg
data\factioncritters.zip
data\faction.zip
data\faction001.zip
--- End code ---
Works. Results:

Furthermore that .zip contains both missing files:
[00:487] Load sprite 'egg.png' fail. Egg disabled.
[00:499] SpriteManager::LoadFontFO - File<OldDefault.fofnt> not found.
You can just try to unzip it to /data and the effect should be the same. Apparently your client cannot access these files.
Deadeye:
I really appreciate the time you took to help us figure this out, and makes me realize even more why I will never personally use Vista. The problem was apparently with the .zip files after all, and they just weren't being seen by the client. It seems to be working fine now. Thanks so much for your help.
Edit: Sorry I should have been more clear. The only thing I had to do was extract the faction.zip in to /data for it to start working correctly. Again, using Windows XP I didn't experience this problem, it was only on Vista where the issue arose.
Aquare:
Would be cool, if you could post what the final solution was. Might be useful for someone else.
fiskonian:
I am having an issue with my mouse cursor displaying on the screen during the play/registration screen. Also, when I press play on the launcher, it will say that "Data file 'datafiles2238.cfg' not found. run updater.exe"
After installation, All I did was link to the FO2 master.dat and critter.dat files, input the correct IP for the server, and run the updater.exe
I have windows 7 x64 home premium. All drivers only a month old.

Deadeye:
I had the same issue with mine originally, you may have to create a text file called DataFiles2238 apart from the other file simply called DataFiles. It should look like so:
DataFiles2238
--- Code: ---C:\Games\FOnline\data\master.dat
C:\Games\FOnline\data\critter.dat
--- End code ---
Make sure your critter.dat and master.dat are in your FOnline \data folder. Change the paths according to where you installed FOnline of course, if not the same.
DataFiles
--- Code: ---include Datafiles2238.cfg
data\factioncritters.zip
data\faction.zip
data\faction001.zip
--- End code ---
Should fix the problem you're having.
