When may we expect a new installer with the updater fixed?
My issue was the same as most people on the previous few pages described. After overwriting the old files I got as far as the login screen, but I am not able to log in after creating a character.
For now I gave up on it and decided to wait for a fix. I will try again if I get impatient, but even if I do get it to work, I am hoping a new installer will be available soon to make installing FOnline a straight-forward process again, especially for any potential new players.

Could be the server just went down. Personally, I cannot see any reason for overwriting old files. If you want to just play, it's enough to follow step-by-step instructions spread all around.
The installer linked at homepage would be very nice for some, no doubts. However, the properly working updater is something essential to play.

Sometimes (even when the server is still up), I get the "It was not possible to connect to the server" error.  But then after 10 tries it works fine.  I thought maybe it was because I hadn't added FOnline to firewall permissions, but I did that today and I still keep getting this problem.

Can anyone help me with this? just started the updater and got the ''Checking'' message, its on the 4040 port and everytime i try again it just said cannot connect to update server. This is starting to annoy me a little, any help offered would be greatly appreciated

For anyone that gets the cannot find dx9 error, just copy it from your fallout 2 directory and into the fonline 2238 folder and your all set

Tried that, believe me. When I first got to the login screen and it appeared to function normally, I also assumed the server was just down when I could not log in. However, after I could not log in for a few days, while it appears other players are able to play judging by the their posts on this forum, I assume it must be a different issue.

I downloaded postwipe client, i reinstal it about 20 times and im trying to do something with this for about 3 days and nothing works. Don't send me to read other posts because i already did. I read every single post about that issue. Nothing helped. The game shows menu properly, but when i try to register, than log in on registered account, it shows me for a half second some random loading screen and in the left bottom corner it says: "Connecting to server... , Conection established, authentication..." every single time. Im tired of making this game work, i need help. Pretty please?

hey man this happend to me before i had to find it my self all you gatta do is that check your fOnline folder and click this FO2238config not the one without 2238 go to datafiles and do it manially find where your put your fonline critter and master.dat folders not the fallout 2 ones  click save then try then if not then reinstall then try thats waht i did works perfecto

Oh totaly forgot to tell that im ok now. I just downloaded whole fonline from here http://fodev.net/forum/index.php/topic,22146.0.html then only changed ip adres to valid and it works fine. Anyway thanks for help. See you on wastelands!

Trying to get this running on the gf's computer, she is using Vista 32bit. When clicking play it goes to a gray screen for a second and then closes. Updated the graphics driver to the most current, and also made sure the .cfg files were in order (I think)

Any help is appreciated, tried searching the forum but had trouble finding someone with the exact issue.

If I recall correctly, you're missing files, which are supposed to be in '<FOdir>/data' or a client cannot find them. Check, if you have 'faction001.zip' and 'faction.zip' in data directory or just download another client (with correct paths).

I'm almost positive it isn't a faction.zip or faction001 problem, but again I could be wrong. I installed it the same way I did on my pc, first downloading the client, then getting the updated postwipe files that one of the devs posted, and after that running the updater. If all else fails I'll try a clean install another time, was just hoping there was another solution.

Edit: Also just tried removing both files mentioned on my own pc to see if I could reproduce the crash log, but I actually receive an error message saying that it could not find the files. On her pc it just closes without an error, and only reports it in the crash log.
