Ever since the last wipe, a lot of new terrain was added to random encounters. Some of this new terrain included Line of sight obstacles, such as big rock piles and miniature hills. I think these were a great addition to random encounters. It makes battles in the wastes much more dynamic when you can take cover behind barriers to avoid being shot at. There is one big issue with these giant rock piles, and it never occurred to me that it would be such a big deal until it happened.
So I was fighting against a bunch of raiders and went to take cover behind a big rock pile. One of the thugs comes around the corner and takes a shot at me. It critically hits me in the arm and I twitch in pain as I drop my gun onto the ground. Little do I know, much worse pain is about to come when I realize I've permanently loss my plasma pistol. The damn pile of rocks I was hiding behind obstructs my vision and prevents me from clicking and picking up my weapon again.
In particular, this big pile of rocks:

I'm sure there are many other types of terrain obstacles in areas that would pose the same problem. A pretty rare scenario, but serious nonetheless. Had this been PvP situation or in Real-time, it could very well mean life or death. Imagine losing something more valuable, like an avenger minigun in this situation. It would definitely feel pretty stupid.
