How about reworking perks that gives bonus to skill points
« on: April 09, 2010, 04:26:52 pm »

My idea would consist of 2 main changes from system we have now so read about both changes before showing your opinion.

1. If you take perks that add skill points to the skills you have tagged you get double bonus. For example if you tag outdoorsman and you take survivalist, you get 50% skillpoints instead of 25% for one perk. Kinda big? Not really read second part.

2. If you take perk when you have much skillpoints, and you need for example 2 skill points to raise 1% of your skill, then perks given skillpoints are also divided by 2. So if we have similar situation as above and take the perk when we have 100% of outdoorsman already, our skill is increased by 50/2 which is rounded (if needed) to 25% skillpoints (and if you have 99% for example then its only divided by one for all skillpoints, no matter that you will reach zone where skillpoints are divided by 2, so you will actually have 50% increase).

Whats the point of this suggestion? Well i see now many people willing to have more universal characters and i think it would help. 1 Now it would be much easier to have any skill at significant level even without much intelligence and it would be really hard to be the one and only master of disaster.  2 Skilled will be a fine trait, cause now it really sucks.

Explanation of skilled: Its bonus should be skill points, but is it a bonus now? You have 205% outdoors for example, you take survivalist and you have 230% now. So perk added 25 * 6 skill points in current situation, which is 150 skillpoints bonus. And Skilled adds 21*5 = 105 skill points bonus and leaves you with 5 perks instead of 7! So you can take 2 sruvivalists, in that situation and have (300/105) ~3 times more skillpoints bonus, then you would have with skilled trait. So what do we have you actually lose in perks what is clear, and you even lose in skill points gain, what should be the bonus of this trait. Since when the bonus is to lose?

So what do you think? (and please vote in poll)

Skilled is very useful. I have miner-alt with skilled, and he is armorcrafter with 180 repair,100 science and 78 outdoorsman at lvl 7. Next lvl I will take salesman, and make my barter skill 95%, outdoorsman 120, not bad for lvl 8 char.
As a trait for main char - yes its useless, but almost all traits have their downsides.
About idea: it sucks, imo. People's willings of having universal chars have nothing to do with your suggestion. If someone will tag SG, FA, Doc, he will raise em far behind 100 before he is able to take perks for them. So whats the point? He is interested in taking living anatomy, for example, at lvl 21 after maxing his doc with skillpoints. But he is definitly not interested in taking Survivalist, because...hm...he wanna be a doctor!
And this change will sacrifice his ability to be a good doc for the sake of being average scout. Stop! His outdoorsman skill is not taged, so...he will still get 25%. what a lame
PS. if someone wants to be universal, he takes 8-10 int and live happy
