Underground Boats
« on: April 07, 2010, 08:47:45 am »

I don't expect this suggestion to even be here in the morning, but I had to get it out. I was in the Slag's underground base and i noticed the underground water in the back. Maybe it's a lake, maybe it's a channel. I have no way of knowing. But since the north isn't getting a train station anytime soon, what about doing something with these? You could pay the slags and they would ferry you to another underground settlement they moved into because space was limited which is connected by these channels. The other locations could be holes in the ground in other towns or the woods or caves near them. Hell, there could even be a whole Slag city somewhere in there. Travel would not nearly be as fast as the train, but you could pay them in other things they'd need instead of caps (fruit, electrical parts to fix their water pump, nuka cola, etc.)

Having another, smaller slag outpost somewhere and a possibility to go by boat would be neat. Ghost Farm would finally get some use too. It sounds just fine, I like it. Hope the devs introduce more details like that - they don't change the balance etc. too much, but they bring life and colour to the wasteland. Just like gas station, theme park etc. - awesome ideas, awesome execution, let's have more!

The Restoration Project has a few areas that might be interesting, even as PvE areas. Turn the Primitive Tribe area hostile, name it 'Cannibals Tribe' and we've got another area to explore. Same goes for the EPA and Hubologist's Stash, I just haven't explored that yet in 2.0.

Why not?

The RP 2.0 is using a lot new proto files / scenery and item objects. If you want to use a RP 2.0 map, you would need to delete all of these objects first, so you get a kind of... vanilla-like map (a map that runs with original Fallout 2 without mods). This kind of map can be exported and for FOnline imported. I tried my luck already on some of the RP 2.0 maps, but there are so many new objects between old objects, that it was impossible for me, to determine, which has to be deleted and which not and the main problem: the objects have been so close together, that you would need to delete either every object or move a, delete b, move a back to original position, etc... but it's so much stuff, that it makes no sense to port the map. It's faster to try to rebuild them.

Is it possible to make a fundraiser to motivate someone with enough skill to make us a RP map importer into FOnline?
We already have a lot of new maps compared to old days, but new ones are always fun.

A "RP map importer" will not work. You have to delete all new objects in the maps, that's all. But doing this needs more time than simply creating own new maps. Also for the moment, we are not really in the need for 100% new maps.
