crowbar
« on: January 31, 2012, 03:04:57 am »

I find lots of crowbars in footlockers, but is a melee weapon. Nice one, but in half-life is much more usable..:D. Why give it lockpick skill for expample +30%??

With crowbar you can smash or prise off something not lockpick -.-

I wouldn't mind if people with good ST had a chance to open lock by force using crowbar... (for example ST-5 roll, if failed crowbar breaks  - and yeh, someone told me already crowbars don't break, but it's a game). Or maybe simply you can try only once on each footlocker to open it by force, next try is auto-fail (and also breaks lock so you couldn't lockpick it).

Can we get a followup on this? Because it sucks having to make a lockpicker.

Go with the normal pen&paper~esque approach on failed crowbar/bash roll if the script can handle it, instead of having crowbars break:
Would result in an opened chest - but with damaged/destroyed contents.
I.E. having that 100% Grease Gun inside the chest turned into a few metal parts or something. As if you used science on it.

Also, shouldn't require a crowbar to bash, but it should help. If you have 8+ ST, you should be able to have decent success with bashing with your bare hands.
I.E. ST-8(+3 if you have crowbar) roll for a normal locked chest.

each lock/locker/whatever should have special stat about possibility to use crowbar. Once locker is too tight there is no possibility to open it with any high  strength, becouse you cant lever it. Only (and better) way would be just to shatter locker itself. But for this case i would suggest to use sledgehammer....

IRL, a crowbar would demolish any lockbox, locker, footloker, etc you can name that would exist in-game. I remain deeply confused why you can't do exactly that.....

Just wondering how 161 years after the war, locks are still in tiptop shape.

Because otherwise they wouldn't be locked.

Because the holy people craft new locks and place them on lockers in the wilderness. It's just a safety measure to make sure corrupt people don't get a hold of the Objects of destruction manufacturing plans. If they gave crowbars a LP buff, then think about all those holy people. Their work would be in vain.  :'(

[crowbars being used on cars]
Obviously you'd have to limit bash/crowbar usage to only containers.
So certainly the trunk could be bashed open - but a car with a broken open door still needs to be hotwired.
