Magazine and Guns

Good day Fallouters.
Recently, I went to Boyce (Junktown) to learn Gunsmithing for 1500 caps (Learned from friends and wiki), then he kind of gave me a magazine; "Guns and Bullets". I tried to figure out it's uses but failed to do so, so I tried to look on the wiki and neither there it doesn't explain it's uses. I read that it cost around 840 caps on The Hub (source: Wiki), is it important or most of all is it an item which has good news?
Oh, and I would like to take this opportunity to ask, is Tommy Gun and Combat Shotgun a great weapon to use?

as far as the Gunz and Bullets, they are unfortuantly useless.

Thought about Combat Shotties?

All shotguns are comparability bad, but combat shotties can be okay for certain types of farming.
